  1. The cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarkii)
  2. the brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis).
  3. The tiger trout (Salmo trutta × Salvelinus fontinalis) is a sterile, intergeneric hybrid of the brown trout(Salmo trutta) and the brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis).
  4. It would be interesting and more enjoyable if Taney had a more diverse trout population, Browns have done well, and to supplement that it would be interesting to have other species that would mirror the trophy aspects......... it could be funded with a trophy trout stamp initiative which funds would be used to augment trophy trout potential of lake Taneycomo
  5. many streams in our area have had gravels washing in covering large rocks, I think it can be abated in some areas by using gold dredge type equipment and removing gravel and restoring some areas to the base rock, I know in my area they are looking for hellbenders, if you see any please notify your area biologist, some areas may get hellbenders re-intoduced once they have them figured out...I was lucky to have seen and handled these interesting critters,.
  6. peck fins get eaten off in crowded runways as well....they can grow back, fin clipping is done but not peck fins because they can grow back anymore freezer burn marks on the fishes back fast and clean I think they did on Stockton back in to 90's looking at the viability of increased stocking
  7. Monopolies are not good for anyone...JM has done great things, but I remember the diversity of products back in the day, that has changed.....competition drives innovation, mom-n-pops get swallowed up...just something about the old Tackle shop, smells the people..the stories...we have lost that....and with that the magic of fishing and the outdoors..pehaps thats why the new generation seeks other things with giant corporations comes anonymity and with that less to hold someone accountable....
  8. as a kid living on Shoal Creek, my brother and I catching crawfish, we caught 2 hellbenders...amazed at this huge amphibian we learned they can bite the crap out of you! we released them unharmed, to this day I wonder if there are any left in that stretch of the river....so when I came across this video thought I would share.
  9. WOW Phil has it been that long??? no wonder I have a little less giddy up-in my get-a-long!.....as a Carp angler I understand not sharing spots to some degree, yet it warmed my heart that 20 years after I posted some great area carp fishing, I saw several young people carp fishing my old spots, and turning them loose so someone else can get their reels screaming and line pealing off their reels, Then hearing them say "I wish we had started fishing for carp a long time ago this is fun".............quietly I smiled and thought this is why OAF is still around and strong when other forums are dead....
  10. seems like (the don't let the door hit you in the posterior) employer mentality will continue as a hand full of employers can dictate wages, if people had more disposable income they could have more time and money to do things like outdoor pursuits ETC
  11. "United States Antitrust LAW is a collection of federal and state government laws that regulates the conduct and organization of business corporations, generally to promote fair competition for the benefit of consumers."
  12. TAKE THE POLL WHAT HAVE YOU CAUGHT? anything else? post below
  13. chytrid fungus is as real as it gets I raise Dart Frogs and its a huge problem, have to sterilize everything you put in the tank
  14. chytrid fungus is killing many frogs all over the americas, the insects prob not doing as well because of wave action from big boats on the margins......with less frogs could be less to eat as well, prob a combination
  15. nice vid thanks for sharing...interesting all the 3 species in the same school
  16. looks like 10 years of the Trophy Carp regs have not destroyed the "other" fishing http://www.mysanantonio.com/lifestyle/travel-outdoors/article/13-year-old-lands-record-13-pound-bass-at-Lady-6697614.php
  17. Hate to say this but Stockton has be bow fished to death the last 7-10 years, less carp = less baby carp to eat, LMB do better when they have shallow feed..................with the walleyes stocked and white bass population up crappie as well the shad open water swimmers get hammered ..not much to eat,... IMHO Stockton should stock muskies and more small mouths and quit managing for largemouths...toss in a million red ears and yellow perch....we would be good to go..they stocked silversides a few years ago...don't think they took, I also noticed less plankton in the lake than I remember.....
  18. Yeah yeah...I found that online under "how to fillet a bass"....I don't think I cleaned a bass since I was 12....I beat up a kid who strung a smallmouth once....I felt bad...for the bass
  19. fish are really scatterd on LOZ however your shot at a huge fish are good...prespawn up river as they head to Truman dam..
  20. skip ahead for the camping stuff
  21. SHHHHHH its secret.....welcome!
  22. can still harvest them just can't keep but one of the monsters over 33" per day that buff looks a bit short of 33" so you could keep lots that size....... BTW bass are tasty too for what its worth...
