  1. Im sure they can't blast bast someone and cause a capsize ether
  2. Spliting hairs if that was true then the other hull types would not be able to spins and such yet the "its not that type of hull" clearly thats not the case... well if you watch this vid at 20:40 several are well reacting to to the music, so unless Granny is head banging to a whisky induced weekend I think the music is on the boat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f7jKKApvDs&t=2245s and on this one at minute 22:00 on the driver is telling his group "he couldn't afford any more tickets" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpzkRHUjT2g&t=691s
  3. also some tricks a soft rubber bead between the sinker and the knot on the swivel is a good idea, I like red octopus style hooks size 4-2 for a med minnow 1/0 -2/0 for big minnows. then you can play with dyed minnows (great for trophy browns on Taney) food color works in a pinch but you buy minnow dye online...tip.. dye 3-4 colors of minnows before you get on the water (a quality minnow bucket with a battery operated bubble is important just get a quiet one) I usually did it the night before use a net because you hands will look like a crackhead if you don't ...a few minutes in the color bath is enough, then put them in your bubbler bucket...you can get creative two toneing them but thats when you get more "advanced" also use well water ..or distilled because tap water will kill your bait...
  4. also an egg sinker rig/minnow is good....start with 1/4 oz to as much as 1/2 oz .... I like a light spinning rod 6# quality green line for this and a rattle bead pegged near the hook (use a toothpick) beads come in lots of colors and at times can make a difference. drop it to the bottom and reel up to 2 foot off bottom to start sometimes higher if fish are hovering higher...slow is better so if the wind is ripping you along get a drift sock and put a pool float on it to keep it up higher in the water
  5. they are there, hardest thing is to learn to fish deep enough, heavy boat traffic makes fish less likely to bite, try the rock Island edges at about 15-22 feet if you have electronics they will show up in the old river and creek channels usually from 5 foot to just off bottom...early in the day late in the evening, 1/3 a crawler on a nice marabou crappie jig 1/8th oz... I usually start with chartreuse and black or straight purple...if its windy a jigging spoon works great, I like to put a pinch of a crawler on the treble
  6. Agreed, I hope its a non-issue....
  7. I stand corrected... http://wivb.com/2017/06/07/jet-boat-company-responds-after-dozens-of-complaints-from-waterfront-homeowners/ "LEWISTON, N.Y. (WIVB) — A popular jet boat company is speaking out after getting a wave of complaints from homeowners. Niagara Jet Adventures in Lewiston has been under fire for their speed on the Niagara River. Waterfront homeowners say their boats are causing wakes which is adding to erosion problems caused in part by record high water levels. “Erosion’s natural, to think that the jet boat is causing this problem when we travel on the Canadian side, it’s just not fair,” said Damon Decastro, spokesperson for Niagara Jet Adventures. People that live along the shoreline told News 4’s Rachele Mongiovi that they have called village, county and state officials to do something about the jet boat speeds. “The coast guard can’t do anything because there is no speed limit on the Niagara River,” said Terry Brolinski, Department of Public Works Supervisor. Signs are now posted near the water from Governor Andrew Cuomo, warning boaters to observe a 5 mile-per-hour speed limit within 600 feet of the shore. Neighbors say the jet boats have been going slower, but still pose a problem on a regular basis. “We still do get the wakes so I’m not really sure what they can do about that, but I feel like it is affecting the waterfront properties. A few minutes after they go by we have some waves crashing on the shore and that goes on all day,” said Janice Vitch, Lewiston resident. Still, Jet Adventures stands firm saying they and are not responsible for shoreline damage. “Our boats are on the Canadian side, they’re observing all rules, all speed limits, all wake zones, we’re not violating any rules, we are not causing the damage. We sympathize with them because we’re suffering the damage too, ” said Decastro. The U.S. Coast Guard cannot ticket boaters, but if a boat is speeding call numbers will be taken and reported to authorities. The jet boats are watched by the Coast Guard, they travel with them in plain clothes and in uniform."
  8. The link Phil posted is of said boat on Taney.....not loaded and not at full speed....and definitely not full of screaming passengers and blaring music....So my question is would you be cool with that thing blowing past you fishing every hour? (laughs at the 4 times a day prediction) 9 bench seats x 6 -10 people at a conservative 150 lbs a person 8100 pounds to as much as (and more realistically ) 15,000 lbs displacement regardless of hull type goes up (surface area contacting the water increases as the hull is depressed into the water with cargo (people in this case) we could go into Froude number and wake estimate calculation but ill link it here...bottom line it will throw wakes BIG ones http://dpipwe.tas.gov.au/Documents/know-boat=know-wake-151014.pdf
  9. Personally there should be NO WAKE zones near docks for ALL boats...I suspect a fully loaded boat will be worse, screaming people doing a 360 to AC/DC blaring... and suspect the jet boat tour is on best behavior ATM...
  10. Hate to tell you "younger" has no $, Gmaw and Gpaw yeah, snowflakes don't do "outdoors" anyways Taney because the waters are COLD doesn't have the huge waters sports usage like TR, but at least on TR you can always find a spot away from jet skis and tubers, Taney is way too small IMHO for that type of boat tour...a boat that size doing 360s prob toss bigger waves than JimBobs bass boat with the 300 merc on it nothing prohibits them to run UP lake if they so chose, if the thing has 2000 hp then they guy is being disingenuous on his intent....I am all for some one making a living...yet you can bet once the fisherman leave for quieter places to fish, you can count on the casinos rolling in, One thing I understand is demographics ( I ran my own advertising agency for years) and the direction of Branson as the Las Vegas of the midwest continues....I'd rather see the change more to natural wonders and less things like this jet boat tour...whats next fighter jet rides a tree top level? Im sure it will be a hoot I remember when I would fish Taney in winter back in the day even up by the dam you could only see a hand full of people and the fish ran huge... catching a 4# average limit was not unheard of...I don't like fishing in the roar of PWCs, Skiers and pontoon boats full of drunks blaring music...something is to be said for a misty evening..a mink running down the bank... the sound of the water and wildlife,.....even the night sky full of stars not obscured by light Pollution...California the birthplace of radical tree hugging environmentalists became that way because of the demand a population can put on beautiful places,
  11. here are some issues from other areas http://wivb.com/2017/06/07/jet-boat-company-responds-after-dozens-of-complaints-from-waterfront-homeowners/ http://www.mailtribune.com/news/20170221/flyfishers-hope-to-ban-upper-rogue-jetboats
  12. COOL my old stomping grounds, now a slippery mullet toss at the Flora Bama...a tour of Fort Morgan, a ferry ride to Dauphin Island, see the shell mounds and Ft Gaines....bellingrath gardens......oh did I say good food?....I could go on....making me home sick....... been in Missouri a long time but you know what they say.."You can take the boy out of the south, But you can't take the south out of the boy.....
  13. I would love to know how many horsepower the thing has...when pressed about wakes he was a bit disingenuous....Ill but a steak dinner in high water releases up to the dam they will go!......even if they stay down lake the big a boat doing a donut isn't happening at 30 mph.....why he picked Taney instead of TR tells me he's going up-lake sooner or later...me thinks gonna be a lot of people raining hell on this guy when he screws up someones nice fishing day...... 14. in my honest opinion smallmouth get harvested before they have a chance to get big, it takes 4-6 years for one to get "big" a long time to avoid getting harvested by rod/reel or eaten by a otter, the same fish get 3-4 pounds often in TR why? more nutritious prey?easier to catch food? less energy burned fighting current? or more places to avoid harvest? Smallmouth don't get gigged in TR, I have been lucky I have caught many smallies over 4 pounds, only 2 in my life that big came from an Ozark stream...question is why????
  15. I wish they did some aging with studies like that unsure if they could do it with a no-kill scales way or using otolith bone way (most accurate I think I saw some where) I did find this but its old http://digital.library.okstate.edu/oas/oas_pdf/v63/p37_41.pdf https://mdc.mo.gov/sites/default/files/resources/2010/05/smallmouthbassstudy_2008.pdf I did see this study, smallmouth do use spring areas to over winter...I suspect this makes the bigger fish HIGHLY vulnerable to being gigged out https://mdc.mo.gov/newsroom/tracking-river-smallmouth
  16. That fish is the GA state record 20 lbs 14 oz... the guy was fishing from a kayak in the Chattahoochee River, caught it on a rooster tail
  17. I had a friend with a paper route and we had plans to go fishing one morning so we could get on the lake before light, I helped him roll and toss papers that morning, I was amazed at what I saw, foxes, huge coons, even a coyote...since I trapped I was like ........he said that the old ladies put out cat food on the porches and drew them in....he saw a owl get a cat on his route......where there is an easy meal critters will be there to get it
  18. Spring river doesn't get floated as much as other ozark streams prob because of all the brush piles.....shoal creek has some fishing pressure in spots, but nothing on the level as some of the others...could that change? sure....then there is the secret trout fishing upper spring river holds...shush..don't tell anyone
  19. "In previous months, the Branson Tri-Lakes News addressed concerns from area business owners about the boat causing disruptions on the lake with wakes and high speeds. Ruda said on April 5, “Any moving object in the water will produce some wake, even a swimming duck. This boat will also produce a wake when moving, but based on our research and boat selection, we believe the wake to be similar to vessels currently operating on the waterway.” me thinks its gonna wizz off the fisherman...think of it as a 30 foot jetski...not like they cause issues
  20. dude...there goes the 'hood bet it roars up to the dam 30mph? yeah right
  21. Here guess this ones weight......
  22. Saw this thought Id share
