  1. its a term for the line of scales along the fish lateral line, Mark is a big ol boy, more at home on a Harley that a Honda
  2. here is a fellow CAG member Mark Hartley from WV with a cool 22# linear caught in the rain today, their weather hasn't started freezing yet, I have never caught one of these
  3. pretty much like this
  4. The Platte River, know that one, have some Kc people that fish that area, west fork of the grand? like in Oklahoma? have no idea where wea creek is....if these places truly hold monsters I know of some happy carpers
  5. Pics?????
  6. Both of you have a good eye, less likely to call a 2# smallmouth 4# as well......takes exceptional fish to be a lunkers, 2# crappie. 5# bass, 5# trout are kind of the tipping points, and when really nice fish get caught its an accomplishment in our area a carp over 30# is a truly exceptional fish, a 40# a fish that will rairly get topped in ones lifetime
  7. More anglers fish for common carp in the USA than fish for Muskie, below are just some well know npeople that love carp fishing, that fish is a good UK bloodline, bred for growth and appearance. The fish weighted 23 1/2 pounds, a nice fish but not a giant, I posted this to show people that like many fish, people typically think they are far bigger, and our waters are not full of fish over Twenty Pounds, we have one ozark water that is world class, and people do come here to JUST fish for common carp, perhaps I may share that one day soon Unlike brussel sprouts, trying carp fishing once keeps people coming back for more Paul George (NBA player), Doug Stange( Infisherman), Mike Iaconelli, Lefty Kreh( fly fishing icon), Troy Lindner , Larysa Switlyk (larysa unleashed), Steve Hoffman (Infisheman ) David Moore (Outdoor life 20 Best Angler on the Planet )
  8. I wonder how many women would not keep their kids if not for the $?
  9. they also lose their drivers license I think the bulk are self employed and avoid the whole child support thing, a few angry moms went after a deadbeat dad who flaunted his outdoor pursuits like having a $40k bass boat with his rent a bikini woman..got a few salty and they lawyer up. I know more than a few who use a dead grandpas info to get a permit anyways..not like they have photo id permits ..yet! I agree I know of a guy who's behind and can't hunt or fish legally yet he loves his kids, he just has been played off a lot yet his cheating ex wishes to crush him the war on men isn't covered much, but it should be, but I think they closed the jail loophole, your dept keeps accruing
  10. here is a full pic of man holding the fish for scale
  11. This should be interesting

  13. if you ever fished one of the HOA lakes you would understand

    Walleye

Greenfield trading post near roark has good bait, call 1st because sometimes they can be short early in the season, minnows and crawlers, also some of the better places to fish are up river are closer the roark ramp, everyone seems to want to fish the dam area for walleyes, however hitting other the rip rap areas are better IMHO, slip bobbers and minnows will catch you fish when they get picky, as far as bringing bait, I don't think crawlers or leeches are the issue just live fish, early chunking cranks like shad raps do well around rip rap, and points and chunk rock areas....wind blowing into the area fishing is normally best, the water can be very clear so lighter line can get you more fish. jigging raps and small jigging spoons tipped with a fresh minnow head can land you the fish if they are deeper, if you don't have one bring a drift sock with a pool float to slow you down if the wind gets to moving you too quick, depending how long you are here, a trip below Truman dam is a worthy run if they are running water, leave the boat at home and bank fish with jigging spoons and 1/8 oz jigs, you have a better crack at a over 10# walleye there and late feb is prime time, huge walleyes lay behind big rocks out of the current and the best spots are on the opposite side of the flood gates as close as you can get to the dam, they moved the fence farther back off the best area but you can still cast to there, its a bit different tackle, for spoons a 7 foot flipping stick and muskie size casting reel with at least 17# mono, I always used 20# big game, leave the braid at home because you will loose lots of tackle, you can buy a locally made slab spoon, just pay attn and buy the ones where the hook rides down, any color...you prob will catch a few huge buffalo and perhaps a spoon bill, sometimes the hybrids will be up, you never know what will be on your line, it could be a 10# walleye, 50# blue cat, or 11" crappie, everything hits those spoons there, I may post some photos on what they are like Mo
  16. I thought I read somewhere one of the lakes in California stopped stocking trout and the bass anglers got salty about it
  17. if you catch 100 LMB in a season what do they avg? just like I hear about 20# carp are everywhere but when pressed people's eyes get big, bass are no different, I like many carpers own pretty good scales Ruben Heaton, have weighted a butt load of fish, all kinds.. a limit of bass, 3#ers is 18# couple of 5# gets you to 22# get to 24# and that will earn you a good paycheck.....way back in the early days I remember seeing strings of bass where the smallest were 5#! ....fish are smaller today than they were just a few years ago, the fish below has a big head/small body something we are seeing, that fish could/should be several pounds heaver If you really want to know measure every fish you catch all season, a fishing notebook is a great tool, its just not TR... many lakes are experiencing this...why? lots of questions, worse forage? too many bass? Biologists have numbers on TR that go back years,

  19. The impacts of tourney after tourney after tourney have yet to be studied, and who's going to pay for something that would restrict them? some areas in the country have a great hostility to tourneys, I suspect real time release will be mandated in the future as an effort to hold off the inevitable restrictions placed on the numbers and times of tourneys. but when the get drunk and party boaters take over our favorite lakes it will just push people to the lakes that don't have such use. one of the reasons I am opposed to thinks like bars on Stockton, and jet boat tours on Taney.....some of the mega-use lakes out west are examples, pretty soon they put caps on how many people can use the lake, or jack up a use permit to weed out people, imagine $100 bucks just to use the lake for one day.....
  20. long before I chased carp, I have lost more than one rod to carp, even had one get snapped under a boat cleat once on Stockton drifting for walleyes!......it took a long time to over come my personal hate of ol rubberlips, fought a 10#er for 30 min till I finally saw it, the whole while I thought it was a record smallmouth! at some point during our journey as an angler we get to the point to enjoy what we are given, or just get tired of banging our had against a wall trying to catch bass in 104 degree heat while fighting cabin cruisers and jet skis,. my personal fishing calendar is....late fall- winter, trout....late winter early spring, walleyes/crappie, early summer LMB and giant sunfish, summer wading for SMB and night fishing for carp/cats....early fall GIANT carp!..then repeat with some side trips to places like Canada or the gulf for reds/flounder/specks
  21. sweet corn out of the can does work, had a guy join me and a buddy once and shelled out a med bass spinning reel on a feisty 12#er that he finally got in, reel never sounded right after that...bluegills can be a pest stealing the corn off the hook, but I always use ether sweet corn or cream corn in pack bait I use
  22. Here is Brian's You Tube channel, it covers most anything you want to know about catching common carp another guy that has a channel called Carp & Cats.... here is a vid on chumming and he has others where he takes his small kids fishing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AwV16GSkr0&t=1021s
