  1. interesting read perhaps that why the new Gov wrote the new order.....
  2. guess anywhere you can make the best of it....
  3. LOL never though of it that way but they do don't they???.......public outreach co-ordinators....our side of the state goes to wanting....I have less places to fish than I did in the past...I hate commercialization and we are going to see TR go all LOZ on us....maybe Al has the right idea..go west young man go WEST!
  4. You have some very good points....how to stretch the $ more is prob going to happen, because of Gov. Eric Greitens' executive order issued in January, the MDC is undergoing a thorough review of all rules & procedures..Im sure others have noticed how they may have been spending the state wildlife sales taxes and license fees. Think they may have closed a couple of "new" offices/ "parks" in our part of the state already The mission of the Missouri Department of Conservation is: To protect and manage the forest, fish, and wildlife resources of the state; to facilitate and provide opportunity for all citizens to use, enjoy, and learn about these resources. Urban outreach is a mandate, I was told once they even stock common carp in some urban fisheries..Paddlefish get a big chunk of federal funding..and since the creation of Truman dam it inundated traditional paddlefish and walleye spawning areas....I agree that smallmouth bass should be a priority and the last convo I had with a MDC biologist efforts on research is on going on SW Missouri SMB with fin clipping/DNA sampling as well as hellbender habitat /population studies (now that they have bred them in captivity in St louis zoo) I always though we got very little of our state dollars to expand opportunities in SW Mo....I am sure they figured with all the major lakes in our area we didn't need more...however Joplin is an hour from any major lake, St louis has more close opportunities than SW Missouri...if you want to fish right after work close in joplin your options are limited and those places have suffered in quality of fishing in the last 15 or so years Other states are doing a few radical things like the no-harvest ban on Mille Lacs walleye in MN or the reassessment of traditional length and harvest (bag limits) on species like Sunfish and Muskie or even the common carp Trophy regulations in Texas and now Connecticut....things are changing and will evolve to make the changing publics desires...fishing for a fish dinner will get pushed farther down the ladder because harvest can't be sustained over time without supplemental stocking in a lot of waters..its a complex issue..someone in the state hierarchy is a big gigging fan..or someone with political pull...or it would be gone by now....just like the fact you can spearfish gamefish in Arkansas... a tiny user group at best, but it seems a well connected one...shooting a limit of 8# walleyes to me is akin to spotlighting a 10 point buck...at least with the buck you can have another in 4- years..that walleye might be 10 years or more old....same deal with 4# smallies food for though on what new changes we might see in the MDC
  5. Margin areas are destroyed by wake action and boats can in some places suspend silts
  6. the usual suspects..boat wakes
  7. now that warm weather boating is past its peak, do you notice the water clearing?
  8. so what would you spend the Millions on and what would you cut? same question so what would you spend the Millions on and what would you cut? The Missouri Department of Conservation’s vision, mission, and values statements communicate our never-ending pledge to serve Missourians and to meet the requirements of the Missouri Constitution (Article IV, Section 40(a) through 46). The mission of the Missouri Department of Conservation is: To protect and manage the forest, fish, and wildlife resources of the state; to facilitate and provide opportunity for all citizens to use, enjoy, and learn about these resources. The Department receives no general revenue funds. The Department of Conservation’s budget request is funded entirely from the Conservation Commission Fund. Sources of revenue include hunting and fishing permits, commercial permits, nonresident permits, the Conservation Sales Tax, and sources of federal assistance including the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration program and the U. S. Forest Service. The annual budget is less than one percent of the total state budget. The economic benefits of fish, forest, and wildlife management include over $12 billion of business activity annually in Missouri. https://oa.mo.gov/sites/default/files/FY_2016_Conservation_Budget_Request_Gov_Rec.pdf
  9. how many CO's for how many square miles?...VS how many regular Law enforcement? 1 or 2 VS over 100 ???
  10. how about the roar of a Branson jet boat?
  11. like decals on a ferrari
  12. Need one of those on this
  13. It always seems to me certain people "types" tend to poach..some normally good people can get carried away and the fine system reflects that...big offenders get banned from hunting and fishing for years...MDC... IMHO does a lot better than most states....from what I hear and read so does OK and AR....interestingly those states seem to have greater outdoor opportunities than many other states.....no org is perfect....but these guys seem to do better than avg considering the limited resources available to them....
  14. Its no telling..they say protein is the building blocks of brain power
  15. TIMMEH!!!!!
  16. Did you eat them? and did you experienced and projectile diarrhea?...btw...... NEVER GOOGLE THAT WORD ON IMAGES.....because you can't un-see it well at least they are not making vegan nuggets..... No we dis it on purpose.... we slammed a few million tons of concrete over the rivers....if they opened it to the gulf of baja they proposed back in the day...but never was gonna happen, no much big $ against it..interesting reads on the history of the event....would have loved to fish for those corvina back in the day...they still fish for them there but breathing the wind blow salt laced with all those other nastys
  17. That place ruined Noel....instead of a quaint little town based on floating...its a trash pit that fouls our waters and vectors hundreds of Illegals....
  18. ask the people on Grand lake what this has done for their water quality
  19. Siusaluki's last words....."darn those carp its all their fault FML"
  20. Think It can't happen here? Common carp, asian carp and rainbow trout have something in common.... grown in vast numbers in aquaculture world wide..since the early 2000's a virus has reared its head 1st in Koi and in the wild common carp KHV and now 2 others the latest CyHV-3....blue springs suffered a massive fish kill in 2010..and we all know about LMB Virus...and the fish kills caused by Virus we see in white bass and other gamefish from time to time in our area,. Australia is planning to release a modified GMO- KHV Virus To Kill Carp, there are studies to do the same for the jumping asian carp here..what would happen if it jumps species like to trout or LMB? or heaven forbid, humans?.... its not like that has ever happened before..swine flu (H1N1) now Nipah virus (from pork)...its not like people don't eat trout or bass....or even carp.....want to see what bad can happen? imagine a pandemic... its not if... but when..the medieval plague, small pox in native american populations (deliberately) the Spanish flu in the early 1900's --go to an old cemetery in our area you can see whole families that died in a couple of years--if ebola ever goes airborne we can kiss the bulk of humanity good bye...prob be something totally unexpected like KHV in fish or LMB virus jumping to humans......someone in a country hostile to the USA just itching to do a victory tour ala 12 monkeys.... If a trout sickness decimated (even short term) Taney's trout, or the white river chain's Bass...stinking rotting vast tonnage of fish would run off tourist dollars and set of an economic collapse that would mirror the Salton Sea disasters....food for thought https://www.popsci.com/australia-plans-to-kill-invasive-carp-with-herpes
  21. This is what it HAD been like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1Ub0IgGMss
  22. And it could go this way..just need a little pollution
  23. Its interesting to think why the restrictions were put in place originally....@ TR very early one spring about 20 years... was in a secluded cove chasing slab Crappie... a small isthmus separated the boat from the main lake... heard music and towering above the tree line was a plastic palm tree on the top deck of the biggest houseboat I had ever seen...1st one like that I had ever encountered on the lake..WTFH!.... 1st time I went to Branson as a kid with family about 1967........winter when Branson closed up shop was THE time to go trout fishing...the exploding growth did steal the charm of old Branson....the landing turned what was the quaintness of what the Ozarks was.... to the las Vegas (sans gambling at least for now) that it has become... all good things come to an end...I have been to a few places that have faded into memories....once a place becomes what people are trying to escape...the downward spiral starts, its why the migration from LOZ to TR and Beaver....
