Anyone Been To Blue Springs This Month
flyfishmaster replied to mic's topic in Wild Trout Creeks & Streams
Mic, Blue Springs is a great little retreat away from the trout park. It is such a small stream, I think it could only handle maybe 4 fisherman a day because of the size and limited number of holes that will contain fish. Flyflinger, you may be more of a novice to this stream than I, but 20+" fish? The largest I have ever catch was 18" on this stream and there is only one hole that I know of that can hold a fish that size. But again I don't get there often enough. Later, FFM -
More power to the Sucker "grabber" / "Snagger" or whatever else they go by. I few less suckers in the stream help me out when I'm sight fishing. Because there are multiple time I see a fish in the water and say "Self, is that a trout or sucker? Later, FFM

Well I have to throw in two, but this is the oddity.... both are Trico hatches. The Trico hatch on the Current River can be incredible at times. I have great success catching a lot of fish, not fishing the size 26-30 dry fly, but using a size 20-24 trico emerger that I tie, plus of course my buckskin dropper. Second, the Trico hatch on the South Platte in CO. The best section being the "Dream Stream" portion below Spinney Mountain Resevoir. The hatches can make a grown man choke. I saw that one in person. My brother was fishing the opposite side of the river, a gust of wind came a long and push a "huge" cloud of tricos in his direction. For some reason he had his mouth open and took in some of the bugs.... about 50+. He was spitting for a good two minutes. The size of of those bugs are a bit bigger (size 18 -22) than their relatives in MO. I'm chuckling to myself thinking of my brother spitting out those bugs. later, FFM

Bruce, Were you able to spot that fish before casting? Or were you in the right place and perfect fly on a blind drift? Later, FFM

Where are all the Feather-Craft Fans out there? I'm not one either. A few years back I went in to get some replace lens for my sunglasses. They found them ar Action Optics (Smith), I enquired two times, these are polarized, right? and the clerk told me "yes" both times. So they ordered a set in. A week later, I went back to pick up the lens. Not Polarized!!! I was pissed. the same clerk informed me that "I" did not specify polarized. He informed me that I still had to pay. I told him no and walked out the door. I have not set foot back in the place since. Later, FFM

Sometimes It's The Little Things
flyfishmaster replied to ness's topic in General Angling Discussion
Vanven, I also had a seam leak in my 4 year old Cabelas pant waders. Here is how I was able to get a new pair from them (for free): Did you purchase the waders on a credit card? If you did, just inform Customer service of a date range it was purchased, they will be able to find it in their system (they did this for me, I did not have a recipt either). Allow them to send you a tube of Auqua Seal. Apply the seal as directed. I tested, by fill the inside of the waders and they still leaked. Call customer service back inform them of your test results. They will then ask you to send in the waders. With in three days I had a brand new pair with a new 5 year guarantee. I hope that helps out. FYI: I like cabelas just for the Customer Service. Thingamabobber
flyfishmaster replied to jdixon's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Greg and Jason, If you attach an oral rubber band to the Thingmabobber first, then attach the the rubber band to the line, it will not slip on the the line or tippet no matter if it is 0x or 7x. Plus it is easy to reposition on the line and remove at the end of the day. There are some photos on past threads that show hos this is done. I hope that helps you out. Later, FFM -
jah, like 3wt said... I loathe all of you. I sure hope I can take part of this action soon. All of the good reports are getting fired up. Hope to see you on the river one of these days. Great report. Later, FFM

N Wolf, Have you tried the oral rubber band method to attach the Thingamabobber to your line? Here is a previous OAF link regarding the Thingamabobber. B-Ray has a great illistration on how it is done. Click here for Previous Post! later, FFM

NoLuck, Thanks for the report. It seems the crowds were larger than the previous week when I was there. So did you keep the flies in size 18 or did you go smaller? I'm sure the water was real clear as well. Later, FFM

Last week I stayed at the hotel in Lenbanon at the very western part of town (I have no clue the name of the place) that has a sign $39.99 for all rooms. If you just need a place to crash this is great and cheap. Over all I would give them 1 out of 5 stars. They do have a continental breakfast of coffee, toast and ceral. Later, FFM

Bssp Report 7/17 & 7/18
flyfishmaster replied to flyfishmaster's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
I forgot to mention that when we got to the park on Saturday morning, there was a guy at the store weighting in a 11 ΒΌ pound Brown trout. He said he caught it on the upstream side of the entrance arch bridge. That was one big fish. I have not looked to see if there are any photos of it out on some website. Later, FFM -
Well I finally got to fish at BSSP for the first time since January. I was surprised how small the crowd was for the weekend. I fished in Zone 2 "High Bank" area for most the trip. I took my brother in law and it was his first trout fishing ,plus his first time to use a fly rod. He did okay for his first time out. I think he was able to land 12, but he missed a lot as well. okay here the report. The water was the clearest I have fished in years and the flow was perfect. I have read older reports indicating the total number of fish in the stream is down.... I have to agree with that statement. The number was down but I was still able to catch a good number of fish. In the 12 hours of fishing we had over the two days (we did not start fishing until after 9 AM each day)I landed well over 50 fishing and a bunch more LDRs. I was surprised how many fish I was able to catch in water less than 8" deep, they were really hang behind the bigger rocks and willing to take my nymphs. I ran a double rig most of the day using 7x fluorocarbon. I was changing flies a lot through out the day but I cannot say any one flies was better or stood out. The only consistency was size 20 or smaller caught 90% of our fish. Over all it was great weather and a good time. I hope I can get back down there soon. Later, FFM

I too have used and made (with out the little post thing) an indicator the look very similar to the Telestrike. I made mine with oral rubber bands to create the loop and to secure the yarn together. I do like them for heavy flow conditions and using a lot of weight. But when it comes time to throwing small flies and little lead, the casting can be a bit different. Also as the day goes on, the yarn will start to sink and not stay on top as well so I would be using 3 different yarn indicators through out the day allowing drying time. Yes I did add floatant to the yarn, plus i made a special yarn fluffing tool (a dowel rod with Velcro attached) to separate the threads. To answer your second question....... Thingamabobber (hands down my top choice) Later, FFM
