I've always had mixed feelings about this. People have been holding fish way out for a long time. I've got some old pics from the 70's that can prove that.
First I think it's fine as long as you are not portraying the fish to be bigger than it actually is. But that's usually easy to figure out.
Secondly, I feel that when holding it out it makes a better image. Consider a kid holding a trophy. You want a good image to capture the moment. Do you want a picture that shows them holding that trophy against their body? Or do you want to add a little depth and character to the shot?
There is no right or wrong answer. It's all personal preference. Some people want to take the picture as proof and to remember the occasion. And that is great. But there is nothing wrong with turning it into a piece of art while you are at it.
Nothing against your comments Mitch. I hope I didn't offend anyone, not trying to. It's just one of those things that has always bothered me. And some folks are even worse about "hero" shots. I have no problems with how you hold them in a picture, I would just encourage everyone to not worry so much about these small rules that society tries to place on us and just worry about getting a nice image that you will be proud to share. And if some bodies first comment is "yeah well you sure are holding it out to make it look bigger" or "nice hero shot", then punch that dipshit in the throat.
And most importantly, Nice fish Seth! Beautiful fish.
