Zach, I haven't really found good protection for a dslr. A small dry bag works but you won't use a camera that you can't get to easily. Mine rides on my cooler in the canoe most of the time but I wouldn't recommend that. There are some very good water proof point and shoots on the market that would be a good choice. Olympus has a good product and Nikon just came out with one.
If you want the features of a dslr but the small compact size start looking at the 2/3 cameras like the Nikon One. Not waterproof but a compact size.
