Got the chance to fish Crane for a little while today. The Creek is up just a little, the flow is good and the water has just a little green color to it...perfect for fishing. Fished the lower Wire Rd. access and started with the depth charges. Found out real quick that I needed to run three of them to get through the current and on the bottom. Did not take long to pick up my first fish of about 12 inches. Tied into and put to hand 2 real nice ones today over 16 inches. Fished every run and riffle down to where the water gets slow with the heavy nymphs, then worked my way back up with dry flies. Fish were slurping the surface everywhere, but I had a hard time matching what they wanted. Started with a tan caddis and only picked up on fish on that. Switched to grey and nothing. Went through a couple of different sized BWO's and only picked up a small fish or two on that then put on the small stuff. Size 30 spent wing midges caught fish. Had a lot of fun and ran into Raymond out there. I kind of like to think of him as the "Keeper of Crane Creek". We had some nice conversation and I definitely lost track of time. Wanted to be on the road back home by 3:30 and that did not happen till well after 4. Water is in great shape, good fish are everywhere, and they are biting well. Did not feel as though I had to put the super sneak on them today, just the sneaky sneak.
