The water got shut off just a few minutes after 10:00 this morning just like the schedule said it would. I was already on the road and headed to the parking lot below the Hatchery. When I arrived, the water was still around 705 and dropping fast. To my amazement, there was not another vehicle to be seen. Got suited up, headed to the rebar hole to fish dropping water, and started with some size 16 grey and tan sow bugs. Caught a few fish then relized that there were gulls everywhere. Switched to a white micro jig under and indicator and caught 5 or 6 more fish. It just was not happening as fast as I would have hoped so I switched to a black soft hackle size 16 and headed to the Big Hole. Caught 10 or 12 fish down there stripping the soft hackle then got hungry and headed to the truck for a bathroom break and some pecan pie for lunch. You see, I was expecting to share some homemade pecan pie with another fella on here, but he didnt show up. Lucky me! I had two pieces for lunch! After lunch, I headed to the flats between outlet 1 and 2 and stripped the soft hackle again. Caught three more fish on that and decided to switch to a size 16 zebra midge about 10 inches under and indicator. This is what the fish wanted. It was a bite on everycast for a solid hour. It then slowed down to a bite on every other cast till just before I left at 4:00 p.m. I think I stuck just about every fish in that hole and had to move down towards outlet 2 just past the rock jetty to get a few more fish. Have no idea how many I caught but it was a lot. Now the quality of the fish was not that great. Nothing over 14 inches today and several in the 6 inch range, but the numbes were fantastic.
I did miss several bites by watching the ducks fly around taunting me instead of the indicator. The ducks know they are safe now.
