  1. Great fish! Kind of makes enduring the cold worth it
  2. I have not seined there but have rolled a few rocks. I found lots of small stone flies and mayfly nymphs. Lots of crawdads in there also. Good flies to tie are bead head pheasant tails, bead head hairs ears, stone flies, san juan worms and small crawdad imitations like the rusty sparrow.
  3. Mohair leeches.....somebody once said them aint no good???? The only trouble with them is getting the specially blended colors. Sometimes you have to get into Michaels secret stash
  4. Great idea Michael! I think the 1 min. limit would surely open Stubby up for at least 30.
  5. Chief, Sounds like your getting some good fishing in!
  6. Yep....I'm getting soft
  7. I was cold.....thought I was duck hunting
  8. I dont know about Grand Lake, but take a flyrod over to the Arkansas River right there next to Tulsa and fish with a 200 grain sinking tip with a large clouser minnow targeting stripers and hybreds, you'll get into some spoons there for sure. Cant keep them there, but one or two is fun to get ahold of every now and then.
  9. Good information there Phil. Thanks for sharing
  10. Not so much in Alaska. More chuckn and duckn there. I did try it at Idavine with good success on greyling. North Fork of the White is another great place for Czech nymphing along with Crane Creek. Czech nymphing is a great technique for using out west.
  11. Great report Tim. You are absolutely right about the extra weight and getting it down. RR is the perfect place to work on your Czech nymphing techniques (deep, fast water) When Czech nymphing I use large heavily weighted nymphs (tungsten beads and lead wire wraps in them) along with shot on the line. You have to get down fast. I basically like to drag the flies downstream in the current while high sticking. Great way to catch fish at RR. duckydoty
  12. Fished for the 4th time this year with DD'sMC, her daughter, and Michael Kyle from Backcountry Outfitters last night. We started fishing about 10 p.m. and the water had not quite dropped all the way out yet. Went down to the point to start. We had bites on just about every cast but they were hitting short. Very few good hook ups. Had a small storm come through and then the temps started to drop like a rock. Of course DD'sMC out fished me again! We were using mainly slumpbusters and tried all colors. The fish sure did like the tails of them. We left Michael Kyle down there around 1:00 a.m. and he figured out the color they wanted. Red did it for him. duckydoty
  13. As a matter of fact......she did
  14. I loose them all the time Tim. I think 5x might make a little bit of a difference on the number of bites you get. I usually do really good with them down there. It is exciting fishing for sure!
  15. Well she did want me to stay home and fill her fly box up, but she wasn't too upset
  16. I think it is a cleo? And if it is, it is a small spoon. I have no idea what a little jake is so I cant help you there. Jigs work fine and you should really try up by the hatchery. There are spots you can fish up there and do not need to wade. The area down by the boat ramp there comes to mind right away.
  17. My wife was working and my brother and his wife were in town so I suggested checking out RR. They had never fished there before so we headed over that way. Started fishing around 11 am and only fished for a couple of hours. Threw nothing but 5 inch T&A Rainbow patterns by Kelly Galloup. I caught about 6 fish with the largest being around 7 pounds. Did have a couple of really big boys grab ahold of the fly and either break off the 5x tippet or just not grab the hook part of the fly. My brother caught a few with the largest being around 3 1/2 pounds. Great day for fishing! It was kind of crowded but you could still get a place to fish. Ran into Flysmallie and his daughter down there. They were just starting as we were getting ready to leave. Been fishing 3 times since the start of the New Year now. Pretty cool!
  18. Rockaway beach area on Taney has been holding quite a few.
  19. Thanks guys! Just got back from fishing in the New Year, watching the fireworks from the Chateau, while standing in Lake Taneycomo with my new bride and fishing partner. And yes, we'll be @ the OAF gathering.
  20. You dirty dog
  21. Sounds like a good n Don!
  22. Interesting discussion. It took a while to down load with quick time but worth it. What I gathered is the flood might not have adversely affected the trout according to electro shocking the numbers are about the same as 2006. There were problems getting surplus eggs for the brown trout hatchery, but they did get enough to meet their supply quotas. Biggest news, MDC is considering the possibility of fish habitat below Table Rock Dam! Very informative!
