For Sockeyes we use 8 weight fly rods. Rainbows are fly rods and spinning gear. Kings are bait casters and fly rods. Kings are open in Southwest Alaska. They are expecting a record run on the Nush this year. Caught a limit of large kings on the Naknek then went out and got a limit of sockeye today. Good day on the river!

Had a good week on the Naknek River. Sockeye salmon started coming in and limits were taken a couple of times this week. A few kings are starting to show up on the Naknek also. The rainbow fishing is really starting to get exciting. The smolt have started migrating out of the lake in large numbers and fishing in the rapids is getting very intense. Several 26 inch bows have been caught this week.

I've been up in Southwest Alaska for just over a week now and things are shaping up for another great season. Alaska fish and game are expecting a record run for kings on the Nush this year and that is great news. I have guided over there 3 times in the last week catching limits after the tide swing each time. Today will be the largest tide of the month so we are expecting a good push of kings today. I just so happen to have the day off from guiding today and I'm hoping to jump on an empty seat in the float plane heading to the Nush today. If it does not rain, I will try to get a few pictures of the 30 pound kings we have been catching over there. I have only had about an hour window of opportunity to fish the Naknek so far. She is really low this year and just about all of the rapids are wadeable. The smolt have not started running in full force yet but that should be happening soon. As you can't tell, I have pretty good internet this year and plan on keeping everyone on the forum pretty well updated on whats happening up in Alaska this season.

Should be clearing up above lookout. Maybe Phil will post a report. I think he is going out this evening?

Trolling the size 7 purple fire tiger flicker shad in that area have been catching small mouth and spots. I've been doing real well by paradise point right across from moonshine beach and over by the branson bell in 10 to 20 feet of water. Oh, and I'm not a bass fisherman, so if I'm catching them, its got to be easy.

Got to add one more photo. Phil was trolling while driving the boat on to the trailer and nailed the last fish of the day.

Fished just off paradise point yesterday evening for an hour and a half waiting for the fireworks show to begin. Only had trout gear with me but had to give it a try. We ended up boating 11 fish in that hour and a half with only 3 being shorts. 4 of the keepers were chunky spots, the rest were small mouth. Caught everything on 1/8 ounce sculpin flavored marabou jigs in what I'm guessing was 15-20 feet of water just dragging them along the bottom.

I had it framed and put under glass to be hung on her wall. Hope she grows to enjoy it. -
In the late 80's I bought an in-line spinner rig that was supposed to look like a school of minnows. It had 7 willow leaf blades on a wire that was 3 feet long. I caught 10 crappie overover 15 inches on it one day trolling LOZ

SOLD! It is time for me to start thinking about heading to Alaska for the summer, which means, putting my toys away and get rid of the ones I don't want to store all summer. I have decided to sell one of my Beavertail Final Attack Layout duck hunting boats. It is a one man duck hunting machine that was a game changer for me last duck hunting season. It is titled, registered and numbered in the state of Missouri, making it completely legal to be motorized on all waters. It is a very stable and low profile layout boat making it easy to conceal in the smallest of cover. It is just under 8 feet long and 44 inches wide. It is US Coast Guard rated for one person and 355 pounds. It comes with a 44 pound thrust, water snake trolling motor, pro series 27m180 trolling motor, 12 foot extending duck foot push pole and paddle. All items even the boat were bought new in Oct. 2013. The longest distance I traveled in the boat on a fresh charged battery was just over 5 miles and felt comfortable that it still had more in it. If you are interested call or text me at 417-294-8672. I do not have an answering service set up on my phone, but will call you back when I get the chance. I live in the Branson area and will be putting this on craigslist in a few days. Asking $400.00 for the complete package.

Mid to Northern Missouri should be having a pretty good season with the rains this year. South West Missouri is just about done. It was a pretty good year for me, better than most, but not as good as last year. I ended up finding 380 this year.

My grand daughter's 1st birthday is coming up this week and I've been working on something special to commemorate the day. It's been a while since I've tied one of these and it took me about 10 hours of very careful thread wrapping and unwrapping to finally be happy with the results. I found out my eyes are not as good as they use to be. Had to use the cheaters the whole time. Thought I would share it with you all.

I know a guy that got a couple of loads of dirt from them. He found a few arrow heads in that dirt.

I caught the big females in 15-16 fow last week. They were full of eggs.

I have not picked wild asparagus since I was a little kid on my grandfathers farm in northern Indiana. Looks like you had a great day! Thanks for sharing with us!

Bridgeport Crappie Kicked Our Butt ~ April 25

Oh, and the spawn is not over yet. All the crappie I caught were females that looked like they were going to explode with eggs. Turned them all loose. -
Bridgeport Crappie Kicked Our Butt ~ April 25

Spent all day out there and finally figured out something that produced 5 keeper crappie, 3 shorts, 2 short walleye, one 16 inch spot, several short spots one nice white bass and 2 dinks in the last hour and a half of fishing. Before that, I spent all day throwing the jigs both straight lining and under a float only to catch 1 keeper crappie and 3 shorts along with a couple really small spots. I ended up resorting to trolling the purple fire tiger flicker shad in size 5 and 7. Picked all the fish up where the main lake channel transitions from bluff to flat and hitting the main lake points. All the good fish were caught from just below point 14 to just below point 15. I even doubled up one time. I sure was happy to be able to be out there today, even when the fishing was slow. I think we need to check that mushroom spot in a couple more days. Those were all some really fresh ones! -
They are where you find em.
