  1. Got the chance to fish Crane for a little while today. The Creek is up just a little, the flow is good and the water has just a little green color to it...perfect for fishing. Fished the lower Wire Rd. access and started with the depth charges. Found out real quick that I needed to run three of them to get through the current and on the bottom. Did not take long to pick up my first fish of about 12 inches. Tied into and put to hand 2 real nice ones today over 16 inches. Fished every run and riffle down to where the water gets slow with the heavy nymphs, then worked my way back up with dry flies. Fish were slurping the surface everywhere, but I had a hard time matching what they wanted. Started with a tan caddis and only picked up on fish on that. Switched to grey and nothing. Went through a couple of different sized BWO's and only picked up a small fish or two on that then put on the small stuff. Size 30 spent wing midges caught fish. Had a lot of fun and ran into Raymond out there. I kind of like to think of him as the "Keeper of Crane Creek". We had some nice conversation and I definitely lost track of time. Wanted to be on the road back home by 3:30 and that did not happen till well after 4. Water is in great shape, good fish are everywhere, and they are biting well. Did not feel as though I had to put the super sneak on them today, just the sneaky sneak.
  2. There is a chance that MC and I, along with MC's daughter might participate in this float. We are still working the details out on our end, one of them being the daughter. MC's daughter gained more interest in the outdoors when we took her to Bass Pro Shop and she noticed all the boys haning out and shopping there. She has gone deer and duck hunting with me several times since then, and that is very unlike a teenage girl not to sleep in, more less spending the day out in cold nasty weather. Now I have found that she is more than willing to participate in things like this if she thinks there is a chance of teenage boys being there. Chief is bringing his son, right? Anyone else? This maybe the deciding factor for us
  3. Wow! That goes to show how much I know about bees. I did some reading on the subject and it does appear that most of the bees are female. I feel like I have just found out the truth about Santa Claus.....
  4. Huh? It was my understanding that all the worker bees were males and the queen was the female??? Have I been missled this whole time?
  5. Well, its kinda difficult to address the problem of too much goo from fertilizer by banning felt soles to stop "rock snot"
  6. While I was at the meeting, I was talking to the biologist, Mark, and asked him if rock snot was anywhere in Missouri. He told me that it has not been found anywhere in Missouri, yet....
  7. Open house forum today. It has been changed from the Dewey Short Visitors Center to Sheperd of the Hills Hatchery. Starts at 1 p.m.
  8. It appears they are making their way towards our new elk heard
  9. That is one pretty net!
  10. If they are generating 3 units or more, you can take bigger boats all the way up to the dam. Just becareful from Fall Creek on up. There is a big warning sign there that you cant miss. On of the funnest places to fish is right in front of the Fish House Restaurant on the landing. They always throw cornbread to the trout there and people cheer you on when you catch them. Use a small ginger micro jig about 1 1/2 feet under and indicator. When you get hungry or thirsty, just pull up to the courtesy dock and enjoy the food and beverages at the restaurant.
  11. LOL....I forgot about all them stinkin walleye
  12. You still have a prop on there? Heard you grinding it the whole way up...LOL!
  13. I have a small canoe and use a kayak paddle. I can scoot along pretty good when by myself. No problem going up stream. If I have another person in there, it does not gos so well.
  14. Congratulations on a beautiful fish! It's cool that you caught it from shore and right by your house!
  15. Got to Blunk Hole just as the sun was starting to go down. It was pretty crowded, but I was able to put the canoe right in and get a parking spot. Slipped straight across the river and there were 2 other gentlemen fishing the slack water below the shoal there, so I stayed in the moving water just above them. They were doing very well and wrapped it up at dark. As soon as they boated off, I moved the canoe down to the slower water and started nailing them. The bite was on till about 9 p.m then started to slow down. It took me till 11 p.m. to catch 4 more fish for a limit. Had to wade a little deeper out to get the last few fish. I was using a fly rod with a 12 foot sinking leader (Thanks Michael Kyle)with a 5.6 fps sink rate with a chartuese and white clouser. I would cast it out into the current then let it swing down below me and just let it sit there. That is when they would take it. Earlier when the bite was on, I used a 7 foot sinking leader with the 3 fps sink rate and the fish were more in the shallow slack water. No sows, all nice sized males.
  16. I dont know the cfs's but 25 is equivilent to half of a generator and is very wadeable. You can wade alot of places up to about 50 on the chart. Much more than that and you loose lots of wading spots fast.
  17. Should have went that way last night. See ya tomorrow night!
  18. DD'sMC and I struck out at Swan also. Fished from about 4 till 9:30 and MC only caught one. Back to the James, I guess.
  19. Sorry Phil, thought it might be a little late for you Ended up catching 8 nice whites, 2 giant gar, 2 suckers, and 1 large shad. The whites were in spawning mode everywhere. Fished right across from Blunks and down just a bit. Water is moving fast there and the fish are lining up within 4 feet of the bank. Phil, MC and I are heading over to Swan this afternoon and gonna fish till after dark. Should I call ya?
  20. Let me know if your coming down and I'll make sure I get some time to fish.
  21. Wish I could Rick. I'm heading out in 30 minutes.
  22. Im fixin to head over to the James for a little night time fishing tonight. Wondering if anyone is interested in going?
  23. Ditto
  24. I will use a bobber in slow moving water, usually a stimulator pattern.
