  1. I would like to ad my $.02 in here also. I am also happy to hear from you Capt Don... always a pleasure to read your posts. Merry Christmas. As far as rods go... I like the St. Croix Premier line... can't afford the really high dollar ones, but obviously they are even better. Also... and this one seems to be a well kept secret, as nobody talks about them... I love the Browing Midas boron matrix rods. Super sensitive, strong, and light. For reels... you can't go wrong with Shimano IMO. Even the Shimano Citica (lower end than the Curado) is an excellent reel for only $120. I have two of those and I love them. Bill (Babler) will vouch for Shimano reels... and he knows a thing or two about a thing or two. Lastly, I want to say Merry Christmas to everyone in the OAF family. Whack'em
  2. Thanks for the reports!
  3. Yep. I know one thing you (if you're like me) can count on in bass fishing-- you'll nearly always need to modify your plan. Adjustments are almost always needed, and unfortunately it seems that much too often I have to make a total rework of my original plan. We'll go out tomorrow and keep moving and keep on thinking and see what we come up with. No matter what, we always find a way to have a great time. That's what I love about fishing. Good luck to everyone going this weekend. We'll be somewhere between Mill Creek and Campbell Point tomorrow. White Nitro with silver and black. If anybody sees us out there, come over and say hi. 4. We're going Friday. 1) Jig 2) Grub 3) Crankbait - maybe, if we get any wind. Rolloffs, ledges, mid-depth trees will be our plan-- and then when that doesn't work... we'll figure it out from there. Good luck everyone and Happy Thanksgiving! Whack'em
  5. Good luck Painter... have fun!
  6. Right on Brett. I don't think most of us conventional fishermen hate trotlines per se... I just hate it when those few "jerks" who don't follow the rules screw things up for the rest of us-- like you said. That goes for every activity/sport. I want to wish everyone who does trotlines right good luck. Whack'em
  7. I have never found a name and address on a trot line... or witnessed a guy watching jug lines. I usually find them covered with moss-- looking like they had been there for a long time... and I see jugs floating up in the brush near the banks and such... I guess the guy forgot to come and get his lines... Whack'em
  8. I third this whole post. Whack'em
  9. +1 I prefer... C. Jewel Eakins Jig (roundhead) myself. 5/16 oz and 3/8 oz. I like them because they come through the rocks well and they just flat out catch fish! I have done exactly what Eric said and started making my own. Whichever one you prefer... get a Do-it Mold, all of the parts, and start pouring. You'll save a TON of money, and you can make them virtually the exact specs as the big companies. I recommend BarlowsTackle.com for the parts... top of the line parts, great prices, and great service in my experience. Good luck! Whack'em
  10. Hey Troy. Thanks for the report. I can identify... I have just started making my own jigs also-- Eakins style, round-head with horizontal eye. There's nothing like catching fish on your own jigs. Whack'em
  11. Hey Engr. We fished the same area, at the same time as you did on Saturday... with very similar results. I wish I knew the answer to your question. All I can say is... it is tough during the middle of the day right now. Great in the early morning, great in the evening, crappy in the middle. I have to agree with RPS (hey man, what's up?) though... great day to be out there! Whack'em
  12. I think you are right Moto... I am pretty sure FLW uses a release boat. We may be wrong, but I don't think so. Whack'em
  13. Acutally Sam, I would rather see a crappie or just fun fisherman sitting on a spot that I figure I need in a tourney than a fellow competitor... always irks me that my competitor could catch and weigh in the fish I was after. But, like I was saying... it is a public lake... and I never get aggravated at the fisherman-- he's just trying to catch some fish, like I am... just the situation. At any rate... I am steering clear of TR when those boys are here also. Whack'em
  14. You can bet they do Champ. If you're like me, you don't like to see guys all over your spots when you need to catch fish in a tourney. It's not that they don't have the right to fish them (they have every right, obviously-- it's public water)... but it is sure aggravating when some of your best chances to catch fish to weigh get spoiled. Whack'em
  15. I was down at TR on Saturday... it isn't muddy anymore. It has cleared up lakewide... just slight color here and there. Whack'em
  16. Hey T. We're probably putting in at Mill Creek... or maybe Baxter. We caught them on Eakins Jigs last Saturday between those areas... brown jigs (5/16) with green pumpkin chompers trailers. I know you like to fish the same way T. We're going to try the same deal tomorrow. Maybe we'll see some of you guys out there... we'll be in a white with black/silver Nitro with a Mercury. If you see us, come over and say hi. Whack'em
  17. Agreed.
  18. I'm fishing at TR. It will be nice and quiet out there with everybody else hunting. Good luck to all... both fishermen and hunters! Whack'em
  19. The FLW talks like they're the best-- but there aint a bigger tourney than the Bassmasters Classic. Everybody knows that... some are just in denial. Whack'em
  20. Nobody is gonna offend or hurt Donna's feelings... She is tougher than all of us put together! Thanks for the report T. I love reports that are both informative and funny. I hope you and your boy do well today. My dad and me are going tomorrow and will be flinging jigs at them-- hoping to catch a few and enjoy the weather. Whack'em
  21. Well, I always try to give credit where credit is due. We fished Saturday... and launched at Mill Creek. The ramp/parking lot is BEAUTUFUL! They finally got it done and, if I may say so, they did a great job. Now hopefully we won't get a repeat of Monsoon 2009 to tear it up again. Whack'em
  22. Sorry to hear about the mixup Champ. Why is it that bad things (I know it could've been worse... don't get me wrong, but) always happen to the nicest people? Y'all will get'em next time.
  23. Okay, I give up. Oneshot is a genuis... anyone can see that. Great job Oneshot!
  24. Today? On Table Rock? Somebody must have been making a T.V. show or something.
  25. You left out... Saturday = College Football!
