  1. I am glad you didn't drown Brent. He is a class guy.I took him night fishing last year under much better conditions.Had a blast fishing with him.
  2. One time many years ago,I was fishing the Rebar run on upper taneycomo when a man and woman in their little bass hunter boat and trolling motor came up the narrow channel between me and another angler opposite of me scrapping the rocks with their trolling motor. When the couple got between me and the other angler,I yelled across to him and said "our only hope is they are sterile and can't reproduce".The couple at that point turned around and left.everyone had a good laugh.
  3. I don't know if I am allowed to do this, but I think i make one of the best Night spinnerbaits to be found.sampo swivels, owner or vmc hooks, owner more expensive, tied skirts that will never come off, premium blades. All sizes available. Thanks,Doug Piper 816-289-5174
  4. I am going to have my taxidermy buddy paint a giant flathead like a brown trout and claim a big boulder dropped by MDC below taney crushed it's nose. That ought to raise some eyebrows.
  5. must have been the Taney night monster that Laker67 has run into in the past
  6. I have never seen a smallmouth on the PM.As for Kings, good luck. They are still out in 130 feet of water in Lake Michigan. If you want smallies go to Burt or Millet lake in upper Michigan
  7. I fish the Pere Marquette every year for kings the last week of September. The kings will start moving in by the middle of August in the lower river.Alot of the guides throw Storm Thundersticks in firetiger patterns on 7ft spinning rods and braided lines or 15-20 lb flourocarbon.I use 9or 10 wt. 9ft rods and waterworks 3.3 fly reels.Using a 6wt. will not cut it.The fish are too fresh and tough. You can get on Baldwin Bait and Tackle website for current reports on the PM river.Schmidts fly shop to my understanding has been sold so Ray does not run it anymore. The best fishing in early August on the PM is for brown trout at night. If you fish at night be familiar with the river,it is darker than a cave at night .No city lights to help out.You can call me Doug Piper at 816 289-5174
  8. I throw a 3/8 oz. black.black blue, black red, black brown single spin with #5 colorado blade.Gold is an excellent choice with a black nickel blade a close second.Short arm baits work the best.It must have a sampo swivel.Six feet of water or less is preferred for this size bait.Throw close to the bank ,raise the rod to start the blade spinning, reel a few turns, slowly lower the rod, take up the slack,if it is heavey set the hook.I seldom use a straight retrieve.I make my baits with.040 wire and 5/0 owner hooks.Deeper water calls for heavier baits.A #11 pork frog in a dark color such as blue/black seems to entice the fish to hold on longer.Clear water lakes work best.I fish 11pm-5am on nights with out alot of moon. The darker the better.
  9. give spro mcSticks a try. Blue Bandit is a killer. You will have to tune them.
  10. If you are really looking for BIG Browns.Go to South America. They have what you are looking for.Or you could go to Wisconsin city boat harbors, they come in about this time of year.
  11. Most swimbaits are made of plastic.Plastic is prohibted from the cable at the dam to mouth of Fall Creek.Try #6-#10lb test ,at least 6Ft rods
  12. try to get a closeup next time. The worst case scenario is a friend sucking out the poison.how about it laker67
  13. Hey Rick, with a little current at least you know whether you are facing up or downstream at night.
  14. Rick,You are so old.Didn't you tell Columbus to use his sail while trolling the Atlantic to America.
  15. My motto! eat a beaver,save a tree.
  16. Pointe Royale was a lot better looking with cows gazing by the shore.
  17. I was always under the impression that once you had your possession limit you were done fishing for that species.Correct me if I am wrong.P.S. if you had fish in the slot limit, you were definitely breakink the fish& game laws.
  18. If you want solitude while you are fishing, please consider picking a steam or lake that does not get 6 million visitors a year.you might want to look at the Upper Peninsula in Michigan or The Wind River area in Wyoming. While you are against boaters, you might want to ban the Ducks rides and their loudspeakers.Oh how about those noisy helicopters.
  19. do you still have this motor,if so email me at Fshndoug@comcast.net Thanks,Doug Piper
