  1. Broad Band. I didn't want to refer to it as "2D" because I think the downscan feature uses this transducer too? I don't know. Maybe it is being caused by some other electrical noise. I'll try unhooking some stuff to see if it goes away. Thanks for the input. I'll leave the transducers where they are for now.
  2. Joe, Thanks for the information and the shots. I have a question for you...you may or may not be able to help, but I think you probably can. When I mounted the LSS-1 tranducer, I put it right beside(about 3") from my existing BB transducer. I read in the installation manual to at max have it no more 12" away. Now, it almost seems to me like I am getting too much "feedback" on the BB, because when I overlay downscan on my 2D, the downscan data dominates my display. The only way I can get it to look right is if I set my noise rejection on high, my surface clarity on med. Is that normal? I assume from reading your previous posts that you have yours on your jackplate. Do you have any of these issues? The reason I ask is I think I might move my transducers a little further apart, maybe 5-10" and see if that helps.
  3. yep. Sorry, I see that I left that out. The refuge is only on the Spring River side. Too bad...the Cayuga piers hole was a good one to snag them out of.
  4. Becky, I would think the LM will either be pre spawn or spawn by then, but a lot depends on the weather. I'm typing this while sleet pelts the windows, so who knows? I would look halfway in to the back of the coves. most of the structure on this lake is either man made(boat docks) or placed by man(brush piles). It takes an incredible amount of rain to muddy up the lake down past Sailboat bridge and Shang-gri-la, above that it will get muddy if there is a rain event in SE KS and SW MO. Good luck
  5. Hey Ollie, I grew up in Batesville, graduated High School there. It starts to slow down some around Batesville and get warmer. There are some trout to be caught in town, but not many. Below lock #1, which is in town, there are basically none but there are good numbers of warm water species to be found. Between Lock#1 and Lock#2 which can either be accessed on the West Side near Locust Grove or on the East Side near Bethesda there are good numbers of trout. We used to go to Lock#2 after school and trout fish a lot. It's kind of a weird experience fishing off of the lock since you are about 40' above the water. We used a fish basket and a length of rope to lower down and land fish instead of trying to haul them up in the air on 6# line. above Lock#2 and Below Lock#3 is also a good stretch for trout. I would recommend a boat unless you plan to fish on one of the lock and dams. most all of the land is private along the river and the river is very big and unwadable for most of it's path through that country. If you were going to fish out of Kayaks, I think you could still have success, but you would want to work out a small float with a shuttle. Out of curiosity, who owns the B&B and what is the name of it?
  6. I just put the Structure Scan on my Lowrance 1 1/2 weeks ago. All I can say is this...it's a game changer and if you haven't ridden around your home lake looking at it, you won't understand. If you have, then you already know what I mean. Look, it still takes woodmanship to be a successful hunter and it still takes fishing savvy to be a successful fisherman, but if you put a state of the art tool in the hands of a savvy fisherman he is going to have more success as a result. That is all. carry on.
  7. That's moccassin bend. They are in there right now calling your name!
  8. We did fair last Saturday. We caught some nice fish and saw a lot of other boats catching nice fish. I went back on Wednesday and it was tough. Completely different. We did end up with a few but they were a lot smaller and there weren't as many of them. A friend called and he has been catching them around Moccassin Bend, but I know there are still a lot of fish that haven't come up from the lake yet. It will get better. Only one way to find out. You just have to go.
  9. I have seen a few up in the river on the graph. I know that a few are starting to come in to the department's check station. They are definitely not in full swing yet. A guy could go down river from say, Port Arthur to Three Fingers and probably do some good right now. Watch your graph on the inside channel bends and look for them right on the roll-off between the flat and the channel. They might be as shallow as 15' or as deep as 35' Have an assortment of weights between 6-12 oz. and it will help you control your depth. Don't forget it's catch and release only on Monday and Fridays and from 60 hwy bridge, North to the KS. state line is a refuge-No snagging allowed.
  10. Solus, He is going to check. They might not be the kind you are looking for. I'll let you know.
  11. My Dad did have a pair of those belly boat fins hanging in his garage. I'll check and see if he still has them.
  12. I thought I saw the same thing, but when I hit it with the side scan the green cedar tree was floating. Maybe they didn't get them all tied down tight? I dunno.
  13. I would think it's been way too cold still, but I am by no means an expert on them. I have seen a lot of them caught up there, but had very little success myself. I think the water temp has to come up to the high 40s before that really turns on.
  14. wow. I heard he had a stroke, but didn't know he died. He was my favorite on that show.
  15. Post of the year so far. Welcome back Trav. I gotta give you credit for referring to yourself in the third person too. That is big time. I would like to see a blog. Maybe "Taney Shores" with Trav-"The Situation"
  16. Went down Saturday to Honey Creek for a few hours. We were planning on leaving at 6, but my bud didn't show up until 8. We had to be back in town by 12:30. We knew it was going to be a quick trip but we wanted to get out for a few hours. We fished 4 or 5 docks in Honey Creek...didn't figure them out until 30 minutes before we had to leave. We ended up with four keepers and two shorts between 11:00 and 11:30. 15 fow, just holding the jig in place. They didn't want it moving at all. I wish we could have stayed a little longer becuase we were catching them pretty well when we left. Oh well, still a good first trip of the year and it was nice to be fishing again after a long grueling hunting season.
  17. My favorite bait for fishing the creeks in Mac County is "California" by Reaction Innovations. One of the reasons I like it is becuase I can take my fingers and pinch/pull along the line between the dark back and lighter belly. The soft hand pour plastic creates a yellow streak down the side right between the two colors. i think it's deadly.
  18. I almost want to drop it in a pot of Zattarains. It looks good.
  19. that will straighten a dirty motor up quick. I have also used the same method on an old Bronco. I run it for 15, let it sit for 15, so on and so forth until it quits smoking. Supposedly that is when you have burned/cleaned all of the carbon out.
  20. have you seen the ones made using CMU block and bamboo? They look simple easy to make and you have a lot of flexibility with how you want to assemble them. I wish I had more ambition, I would make a bunch of them up and sink them on a couple lakes in OK. I like to fish.
  21. Go easy on em bro, that's a precarious point you are at with him. One more bad trip, who knows? Might be the next Dungeons and Dragons world champ. Good on you for taking him though, and I'm glad you both had the chance to spend that time together. Gotta give the kiddos slow pitch, especially when they are young. Not bragging or looking for kudos, but by my last count I had taken 11 kids hunting when they harvested their first deer and five kids while they harvested their first turkey. So when I tell you this, it's from experience. Good luck!
  22. I love that. That kind of stuff is what I really enjoy about huting and fishing, that being, I love it when someone shows how overcomplicated everyone makes this stuff. Way to keep it real Sam.
  23. I doubt it. We were using a steady jigging retrieve, I just couldn't set the hook fast enough. The crappies reaction time was quicker than mine.
  24. I do love sickle hooks, and I do love sight fishing for crappie. This is my kind of conversation. 2 years ago down on lake Eucha in Ok., we had a couple of weeks of sight fishing for crappie. The lake had been drawn down and weeds were submerged. The crappie moved up into them to spawn. Guys who love fishing the trout parks would love it. You could actually watch multiple crappie suck it in and spit it out before you hooked one. sickle hooks are the shiznit though, good points made by Sam about the size of their mouth and a wide gap hook. I ran in to the same problem fishing for hybrids in Ok this year. It's hard to find the right weight of jig head with the right size of hook. This is good. Good Crappie info being laid down here. It's just up to those who want to catch them to pick it up. Later,
