  1. There's also loopholes in those regulations. Just sayin.......
  2. I ALWAYS operate under this assumption, however, good catching to me is as fast as I can take one fish off and put my line back in the water I have another one on. When that doesn't happen, refer back to the afore mentioned Modus Operandi.
  3. There are some beautiful open water humps out there. Hybrids and Blue cats love those humps
  4. I've found it surprisingly accurate where I've used it. YMMV, I guess.
  5. I think I have something in my eye. To anyone that says fishing is "just wasting time", I'd like to submit the above as a rebuttal. Keep an eye on them Champ, and keep them fishing.
  6. 30 mins. on land, 15 mins in a boat.
  7. Don't feel bad. Beaver lake striper guides are kind of infamous for their demeanor. I haven't met a top notch one yet, but I've only met two. I haven't met or heard about any with the same type of class as Babler, Mike Worley, or Bob Bennet.
  8. Maybe it's time we all started acting like professionals in these situations.
  9. the thing about turtles is that they always have their noses in the air and look at you with an unblinking accusatory stare. I, for one, feel self conscious in their presence.
  10. I'm kind of losing track here.......... Is it bow fisherman that cut bass fisherman off, wake boarders and Jet skis that cut bass fisherman off, trollers that cut bass fisherman off, or other bass fisherman that cut bass fisherman off? Do bass fisherman feel like they are being disrespected on the Rock? Like someone doesn't know who they are or something?

    Holiday Float

Irony is that most of the floaters are college age kids from Arkansas and Oklahoma.
  12. Cool picture. I'd make a dam guess but they all look the same dam thing to me. Thanks for sharing.
  13. Another thing that occurred to me as I was reading this again, I'd suggest a centrifugal braking baitcaster like what the curados use. It might be a little bit easier for a beginner to learn on. You only have one adjustment instead of two to concern yourself with in order to prevent backlashes. I've been buying the academy Mettles the last couple of years and for 50$, they are a great baitcasting reel with a lot of the same features as high end Shimanos. Centrifugal brakes, 10 bearing, etc.
  14. Agree with all the above. You are spending time with him. That's something that half the parents in the world are missing the point on these days. As for a rod, I agree with RPS. Maybe even a 5 1/2' rod. Also would suggest taking him white bass fishing in the evenings somewhere. Maybe Cape Fair or Grand lake. Nothing will boost a newbies confidence and enjoyment like chasing a school of whites around on the jumps some evening. ETA: Definitely #3 from F&F. Don't burn him out. If he's bored, find something else to do. Walk the bank, swim, whatever. Don't make him grind it out unless he wants to.
  15. I think that spoons should now be known as the "CindyJo" rig.
  16. there is one right at the dam on the east side. Cant miss it.
  17. /\/\/\ My 1000th post is an actual fishing report....weird.
  18. Posting a little late. Friday, Saturday, Sunday evening between 5pm-dark, caught over 100 fish each night. Mostly whites in the 16-17" range and they were just rank, hot fish. Also caught 5-6 hybrids each night in the 10# range, the biggest was just over 11#. Caught them mostly on live shad either free lined or Carolina rigged with a small float on the leader. 2oz. Slab spoons were working just as well bumped along the bottom and also caught fish on storm swim baits and bone colored Sammy's on top.
  19. Quill, I don't really follow the quality of Black Bass fishing, but I guarantee you if you take the BASS top 100 lakes and do a google search you'll find more than one of them that has a good population of stripers. I know Texoma was said to have rebounded as of late in reagard to the quality of Black Bass fishing but I don't know what that equates to. I'm sure a search of winning tournament weights this spring would give an indication. That lake has more Stripers in it than any of them around here. Chickamauga last weekend one of the Elites had a picture of a 20# class Striper that he caught during that tourney. Judging by all the 25# sacks, I'd say that lake's LM are in good shape. Other than that, the information is out there if someone wants to learn about it. There's a lot of guys, as evidenced by this thread and many others on this site previously, that will refuse to accept it. That's fine. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. My only point to those that voice their opposition, don't present you opinion as fact. The facts are there in black and white via studies done by fisheries professionals and none of them have proven that there is any negative impact on LM fisheries by the introduction of stripers-That is a sentitmental feeling by old school black bass fisherman. Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the biggest impact on LM populations is a healthy population of walleye. I may be wrong about that because I haven't spent much time reading about it.
  20. Not so fast sport. Here you go Bill: In South Carolina, the striped bass tend to spend the greater part of its life in freshwater streams. Once it was believed that the Santee-Cooper population of Striped Bass had become landlocked because of the construction of two dams that impounded Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion. More recently, fish biologists have come to believe that the Striped Bass in South Carolina were "functionally" landlocked or "riverene" long before the dams were built. This means that they have become residents of the river naturally. This is supported by the current research. Therefore, the Santee-Cooper Striped Bass population is entirely a freshwater population Arkansas River, Coosa River Lake Mead South Carolina texoma Those are the ones I'm aware of. Feathers and Fins provided a few more I wasn't aware of the other day in the Beaver forum. Takes a considerable CFS, moderate salinity and 30+\- miles of unobstructed flow. The eggs have to stay suspended for a few days to hatch.
  21. It's kind of ironic you are hanging out on a fishing forum if this is your perspective.
  22. Salient Point, Adolfo. Thanks for bringing this back up in order to bring it to our attention. I think one slipped through the cracks Phil.
  23. Pretty cool, huh? I copied it from someone else on here a few years ago. I can't remember who now. I just have a bookmark for it. http://www.navionics.com/en/webapp
  24. Well, there's always that. When the researched and published facts don't suit your personal interest, go with your subjective opinion! My wife does it all the time!
