Yes Bill. Mine was an old flat pad hull with three Vs up front. And she was HEAVY. But Wrench ride and fished from her. She would scoot. Thanks to the tail. The new one reduced the rooster from shooting up higher than the scowling and basically created something that would deflect the spray back downward and my prop slip went from 6% to 3% and it increased 2-3mph. So it helped mine limp on down the water. :-) I miss that little boat. Until I turn the key on my new Mercury and it starts in 2 seconds and does not require me to fan smoke away. LOL!! Sorry wrench. I know you loved that motor. :-). I did too but I don't miss it that much.

I put one on my old boat but it was a mod v tri hull with an 85hp Rude. It came with one on it because former owner used it to ski with and needed it to plane out u Der load. It worked some. I changed it out for one that protruded out over the prop. I couldn't lower the motor any lower as it was on the top mounting hole. My prop slip was very bad. It would blow out if trimmed up full. So I bought an aggressive take prop with cup and it improved. When added the new foil with it over the prop, it reduced the rooster tail and increased "grip" pushing my little 15 footer to 40mph GPS. Which is smoking fast for a heavy tri hull with an 85 on it. Modern Trackers with 90 DFI gets same speed. Now..... Do I recommend one? No. Mine was a specific need as my motor shaft length was short for that model boat. Just a tiny bit. On a boat with a 200???? I'd be embarrassed to show up with one on it. :-) That's like wearing a button that says "I LOVE TAYLOR SWIFT" in a honkey tonk. :-)

I read his article. Wow. What a debacle. He pretty much said everyone in the locks had a less than 1st grader intelligence for not knowing how to use it. Good for him. They all had it coming.

I want Ned lessons. Lol! I keep saying I'm going to make a trip with you Quill but this is killing me! We've got to get a trip planned so you can show me the Big M area. I'll even supply the vessel and coffee. I'm out this weekend but might be able to soon after.

My experience has shown that in most of the tournaments on this lake, only 3-5 teams catch a sack over 10-12lbs. The difference in weight between the top 3 bags and the rest of the field usually varies from the field catching between 6-10lbs and then jumps to top 2 or 3 teams weighing in 14-18lbs or on good days, 17-20lbs. Two anglers catching 20lbs is great. But unless 10 out of 30 boats caught 15-20lbs, I wouldn't say they were "eatin' today". I'd say the status quo was met and someone really skilled got very lucky again. Because most of the field doesn't do as well. Granted I don't tournament fish on Beaver but I pay attention to the weights and I hear reports all the time. The times that I have fished tournaments, this seems the standard scenario. A few teams sack em' up good.........the rest of the field, not so much. ME? I'm just happy to weigh in a few fish! LOL!

Fish Finder Training – Screenshots & Interpretations
J-Doc replied to J-Doc's topic in General Angling Discussion
Cool. Thanks for sharing! We need more posts of screenshots. If anyone wants an interpretation, let me know. If I don't know the answer, I can get it. Direct from Doctor Sonar if needed. -
Yep. I figured someone would do well but......man it's tough fishing in that much wind.

So totally agree and understand that. I like a little change up myself. I saw a Nitro pass by (May have mentions that above?). If glass boats are having a hard time in it, I didn't feel too bad about my new Rt188 Ranger. I thought it did really well. Busting 50 on chop is fun. :-). I drive it like I stole it and the cops are on my tale. Lol!! I totally blame jolicious for that. I got spoiled to riding around in "the Beast" for a while. (Alpha 211 Legend with 250ProXS). Joe's philosophy on rough water?? "Just ride on top of it, it's smoother that way". Lol!!

Well I hadn't been out since Jan 1 so I had serious cabin fever. Wanted to test a new prop with a load on choppy water anyway so I can safely say.....MISSION ACCOMPLISHED on the choppy water. Keep in mind that I have an aluminum Ranger so the short tale below should be put into perspective. It rides great and it's fun in rough water but......big ole rollers that are 10ft wide are not fun in any boat. Even the glass bass boats were having problems and going airborne. I launched out of Prairie Creek around 1 and straight away, went out towards Coose and Rocky Branch. Wind to my back, 2ft chop in front of me. Boat plained out super quick and I was at full speed in no time. I chased down a big bass boat going into Coose. Driver was shocked when he turned around and saw me fly by as he settled down. Lol!! I only have a 115 so my little Ranger was "scootin". I didn't see fish at my spot so I left Coose. Going towards Ventris in the main lake, my boat became a "salad shooter". My boat was literally airborne between 3ft rollers that were 3ft deep and an out 3-4ft apart. As a Nitro passed me heading towards Prairie Creek, his wake made the chop and large waves even worse. I settled slowly to turn around. As I was turning around, really large waves about 10-15ft wide and 4ft high with 2ft rollers on top of that made me a bit nervous turning parallel with them. After I was facing the waves and Prairie Creek I debated whether or not to try and get on plane and ride on top of it or take it easy. After slowly getting on plane and skipping the tops at half throttle, I eventually kicked it up go 3/4 throttle and ride back into PC. Met up with another forum member at the dock and said "I'm not going back out there" :-) After the wind died down before dusk, I started finding fish. About the time I had to load up and leave. Figures. For me, fish were on main lake and not coves which is no surprise really. I expected that.

Well stated wrench. :-)

Awesome. I got his name through Peter Miller (Bass2Billfish host) and he was great. I felt bad for him. He was getting very angry when the tarpon would not bite. Lots of pressure on a guide to put folks on big tarpon. They were all around burping and surfacing but wouldn't take the live crab. Then I felt a bite and then the reel started singing suprano. He put us on some quality redfish later as well and my 13yr old caught the biggest red about 30". That was his biggest fish to date and he did it all by himself. Best way to describe redfish to those that don't know....it's like hooking up on a team of smallmouth bass harnessed together like a stage coach. You're just along for the ride. Lol! Okay. sorry for the total derail but I love hearing when people know where Captivag is....much less fishing it. And with Ozzie!! That's awesome.

Captiva!! Love that place. Was hoping to go back this year but that may not happen now. Last year I got an 80lb tarpon off Captiva. If anyone is going there.....look up Capt. Ozzie Lessinger. He was just on the Bass2Billfish TV show. Little did I know, he was filming that episode right after my trip. Ozzie amazed me. We met just before sunrise, he drove his flats boat out into the bay and after a 15min run, stopped the boat I'm the middle of the bay miles from land anywhere and without a GPS turned on bodily stated....."there should be some tarpon here". And on cue, 4 tarpon surfaced and started daisy chaining within 50ft of the boat. It's as if they were his pets. Now there is no way he was able to mark a spot based on landmarks. Water was all around us and land was at least 1.5miles away. And 80lb tarpon his like trying to catch your buddy's four-wheeler too. Drag singing on a spinning rod for days. Sorry. Off topic. So what did you fish for in Captiva? Awesome place. I'm jealous!!!

Lol!! Sorry but the way you put it was funny. It's true. Realtors will tell you anything to sell property. Poor people don't know any better but, if they didn't do Amy research on the lake itself, shame on them. If they were THAT determined to catch said fish, they should have researched it themselves. Never trust a used car salesman (sorry if any of you are one) Never trust an attorney Never trust a sales pitch if any kind Never trust a fart It's that simple. :-)

I'd bet money it will affect the bite. Night bite would be best and there are enough fireworks shows going on that creates some hazardous traffic before and after. Last year looked like D-Day storming a beach with water craft before the show at Ventris. :-). Not to mention the intoxicated boaters driving away at night. Sorry to be a downer but that's something you need to be aware of. Now if you can get a trip up near the dam at night, you'd have some good chances at some good quality fish. Otherwise the water churners will have it so waked up that a day trip will push the fish deep. However, an early morning trip before sunrise could be good trip. Guides typically do the early morning trips before sunrise that time of year. There are lots of guides and Hook Line & Sinker bait shop can point you finances recommended guides I'm the area and contact information.

That's what I was affraid of. This cold spell that dropped water temps down and inflow of rainfall has them in full winter mode now. That's not to say they can't be caught, it's just more difficult. There are windows of opportunity around the corner though. I will be out Sunday to see what's going on and how the warming trend will affect the bite. Guessing it will still be cold and slow bite even though the above surface temps will be warming. I also saw that War Eagle area is muddy. So the mud line is probably just above Hickory Creek right now.
