  1. Thx Seth, glad you caught some fish.
  2. They must forget easily, because that is almost a yearly event. Prior to Truman dam, 650 was pretty common, with a few 647's thrown in. I can even recall a 650 in the 70's and maybe even 80's. As you mention about the 54 bridge, the channel runs to the east side away from the bluffs. I have seen stumps and dry ground with the channel only about 30 feet wide. It used to run right thru Tonka villa crappie dock under the old bridge.
  3. JR, the big boss, has advertised,"lied", on kjel radio, that MM, little boss, will release 100 lunkers for the opening. I would bet the crowds will be backed up all the way to the live bait isle of the park store. On your way out you can glance across the road and marvel at the new, "never run out of 8 inch fish", multi million dollar rearing facility. Now be aware, that according to park superintendants, a lunker trout, is any trout that has attained the remarkable length of 18 inches. Quite the milestone for bssp, but far from being a lunker according to the weight standard of 3 lbs. Take a glance at the lunker board before and after you start your day of fishing. Good luck and great fishing to everyone.
  4. It is such a small area that boat noise can kill the whole fishing trip. People pull in there like they are after spawning crappie and ruin it for everyone. During good weather, families with kids are waking the shoreline and throwing rocks at invisible objects. People that are up by the castle, are rolling rocks over the embankment that sound like a gun going off when they hit the water next to the bluffs. This is extremely dangerous for boaters and hikers near the tail out. Another dangerous and loud event is when the 6 foot icicles start falling from the overhanging cliffs. I have been and seen it all, and like FW says, it usually is not worth the trip.
  5. Yep goldens. In the past few years we have seen several around the lake. I have had 2 most of the winter, and 2 more has joined them just this week. We also have bald and juvenile bald eagles in addition to ospreys. With the ice gone I would imagine to start seeing some loons. Loz is getting to be quite the winter over spot birds of prey.
  6. We will trap her and transport her to your lake.
  7. Well I stand corrected, had never even heard of this program prior to now. I wonder if you have to carry their official measuring devise to make the grade. Igfa has some pretty tow the mark rulings. Any way it is another step in the right direction. Maybe state agencies will adopt also. 38.5 will be the mark to beat in Missouri.
  8. Yep we may have dodged the bullet. Glad to hear that you have no problems. Bring on them dang ole crappie, it has been a long winter here at the lake.
  9. The wind and waves are pushing dead shad up on the remaining ice. The eagles and seagulls and crows are having a field day. Yesterday, I had 4 golden eagles sitting on the edge of the ice waiting for shad to be blow into them. Today most of that ice is gone and the birds are spread out more.
  10. Big yes, world record no, at least 10 to 12 lbs short of a world record. igfa does not keep length records as far as I am aware. Only all tackle weights and line class weights.
  11. A very nice fish indeed, a catch we would all like to have. I have to agree with CWF, and disagree with you. A seaforellen brown is long and lean unlike a New Zealand pellet fed fish. This Milwaukee fish would have to be around 44 inches long to be around 42 lbs. 43.75inch is the previous world record. Missouri fish can attain this 39 inch length, and we have a 38.5 on record. My best guess would be around 28 to 30 lbs for the fish in the video.
  12. Wow, very nice.
  13. crossed the glaize this morning with everything still socked in. Was at the 5mm of the big Niangua just a few moments ago. Its is broke out on owens point for about 200yds and that is it. Every duck and seagull are sitting in that open water pocket. I would say Friday is going to be rushing it.
  14. drove across the glaize arm this morning. the ice appears to be melting on top. Looks wet instead of frosty like it has been.
  15. If I remember correctly, it was 47 in 1973. And once prior it was that low or lower. I have seen the dam, in honky tonky cove, above water, twice in my lifetime. The first time was in the 50's. I don't know for sure, but I am guessing that the Gunther mill dam elevation is around 649 to 50.
  16. the lake may be so low in 20 days that not many ramps will be long enough to allow access. bring your waders.
  17. Below bagnell dam they are called cisco's or skip jack herring.
  18. Looks more like a "wish fish" than a spring or brood fish. A wish fish would be one that I "wish" I had caught. Nice fish Tim
  19. I can see that you are improving member image by criticizing non member, less talented fishermen. And by warning other campers of those nazi gestapo park rangers.
  20. I am glad you enjoyed upstream. But for me it was the worst season I have seen since the number one opener in 1976. Fish size and fish numbers are declining at an alarming rate. Most all of our big fish go to feed the masses at the urban ponds. It is a sad day, when you can walk the banks at Montauk, and not see a fish bigger than 4 lbs on opening day of c and r. Next season, I think I will go to st Louis and Jackson for the entire winter season. I will not bother to waste my time at the trout parks.
  21. The robin u saw, heading north, came from linn creek. I saw him day before yesterday.
  22. they squawk really loud when the front bumper hits them. The down side to that is , you usually slide all the way across the lake trying to stop.
  23. Them polar plungers are going to have a hard landing.
  24. Main channel froze up and the seagulls and the crows are in the osage beach, walmart parking lot this am. They were fighting over every thing that looked edible.
  25. If the lake freezes solid like it did in 93, them dang ole seagulls will be eating road kill again.
