  1. That's just what I was thinking Wayne! The guide 147 is what I've been using for a canoe, so I got them covered. Its got lots of scratches, but it's a tough boat that they should be able to use for many years.
  2. Thanks for the input guys. I'm looking forward to trying out a solo canoe soon. My boys are about big enough to put them together in their own boat and fish.
  3. That's cool! No better way to learn then that. I wish I had a few more old guys showing me things when I was younger.
  4. That's good advise.
  5. Maybe it needed some weight to put some tension on the line, while having the swivel spin it out? Kinda like a old style phone, not a cell, with a long curly cord. Once it gets all twisty you drop the receiver and hold the cord till it spins free, the receiver would be the weight?
  6. Thanks, hopefully I can get one this year. I was thinking the odyssey would probably fit better since it's a little bigger. I still haven't quit growing yet it seems.
  7. Looking at Mohawk solos, which would be a better choice the solo14 or the odyssey 14?
  8. Just watch where you tie that skinny braid on, some hooks or jigs have the slightest little gap and the knot has pulled thru. Or it always wants to hide itself in some splitrings if you get a crankbait fouled up on your rod tip.
  9. Nice catch!

  11. That's what keeps it fun. Once in awhile I get to fish with a guy that's a crankbait guru and it's fun just to watch all the different color combos he throws through out a day. Watching them swimming thru the clear water, I get a kick out of watching his fish come out and smash it. It's like when Al starts working his Sammy, you just have to keep looking cause you know it's about to be hammered by a fish!
  12. I would much rather mix it up a bit. It would get very stale fishing one bait all the time. I get more satisfaction catching fish on large tackle, it has a better feel to the hook set with a baitcaster and a big o crank bait. I know I can always catch fish downsizing to a little bitty bait, just not nearly as much fun as tossing a large buzzbait around. Most people I know that fish a little, more than just bait and bobber, start with small line and small baits. Some work thru that stage and experience it all but many will not.
  13. Nice pictures Andrew! Looks like the kids were having a lot of fun, and that's what counts. I was out on a creek yesterday and noticed a few times how much fun my kid was having, running around exploring etc. that I didn't really care if I caught any fish or not.
  14. Glenn and Mitchell are the best part of the show! That's the life most river rat kids dream of having.
  15. My favorite spinning rod is a 6 foot bps extreme med.pwr. fast action rated for 4-12 line. I have tried it with braid and several sizes of mono, 6 lb is what usally works the best for me. My favorite baitcast rod started out 6 foot, but I have had to repair the tip several times and repair the reel seat once. I bought it as a combo years ago from wally world, I belive it is a quantum lite, medium rod. the reel gave up many years ago, but I wish I had bought more just for the rod. Its hard to find a good cheap baitcaster rod that is not to stiff or to limber.
  16. Great video! Sounds like everyone was having fun catching some nice fish.
  17. That's a nice one Mitch! Good job getting your brother on some fish.
  18. Nice brown Ollie!
  19. That's a nice one Ducky!
  20. Thanks Mitch! Get togethers like that float and boat you set up should be a regular thing on this forum. Its nice to meet up with other people that enjoy fishing as much as we all do.
  21. I had a great year of fishing in 2011. I enjoyed watching my boys grow in their love of fishing, it keeps getting better year after year. I hope everyone has a great year of fishing in 2012!
