  1. Put in at Blue Spring and took out at Bay Creek. I'm a slow floater and prefer to fish a lot. We struggled to get to where we needed to be on night one. Second night was awesome. Not that the first night wasn't. Like Chief said in his thread, the lightning bug show was beyond words. Next time I'm doing Buck to Rymers. From Rymers to Bay there's some flat water this time of the year. Beautiful bluffs down to Bay Creek. Like Chalk, Bee, and the big bluff that horseshoes from right to left just above Bay. This was my third float on the upper, and man was it special to share a canoe with a friends eleven year old son who can fish lights out. Hell, the kid caught a longear with a minnow net and the fish was bigger than the net! I lost $2,000 in bets to him this weekend. Should've known... he's Chief's boy!
  2. Here's a few pics. Ain't gonna worry about sizes and weights. We know how we did. The numbers of fish we caught were something else. For the record... I owe Dylan $2,000 dollars on bets I made with the little fishing shark. I told him, ol' KC either has to stay home and save some money to pay you or he'd have to give me a break so I can afford to fish with him again! His mom said a new ATV comes ahead of me! I'm in trouble... OK, pics.
  3. I got a few pics Eric. Give me a few moments.
  4. Heading south in a couple of hours. Radar map looks unfriendly this morning! Be keeping my frog togs within reach. Post some pics next week.
  5. Thanks Steve. I will give a report.
  6. Floating from Blue Spring to Bay Creek. Me, Chief and Dylan. Camping overnight two nights. Starting thursday and gettin' off the river saturday sometime to head back to Neosho. 1.76 at the Mountain View gauge now. A little low but, like I said, leaving from Blue Spring. I figure the river will spike a little with the way the forecast looks. Eric, Glory Daze... how about some input! We'll give a report with pics...
  7. Dale Hollow is in Tennessee. But close enough to Kentucky. Had to cancel a trip in 2004 because of health issues. Lookin' forward to a trip there...
  8. I'd get in to a shallow cove and watch for them rolling around at the back of it and go from there. I'm takeing it you haven't fished Hillsdale before?
  9. It's a problem at Roaring River below the park. Be interesting to here of other peoples reports of this problem on other streams.
  10. Glad you had fun with the family Buzz. I'm thinking I kinda know where "Paradise" is. If I'm wrong, it ain't far from it... Gonna miss you on the Jacks Fork.
  11. Freedom... not thinking about anything else in our stinking world but what we're doing at that moment. Better yet if you're sharing that time with friends who think the same.
  12. He agrees... I'm floating with him and Little Chief next week. His son doesn't want to see my blood spilt. He love's ol' KC. I'll get Chief straightened out. You guys should know he's a big ol' pussycat. But................. the wife just went out and bought a cheap casket for me! She must know him better than me! I've kept and ate two smallmouth in my life. Will never do it again.
  13. That's pitiful, but I floated downstream with a bunch of turkeys last week on Shoal....
  14. It's heavy. I bought an extended hitch from Cabela's to haul it. Just put the tailgate down on the truck (Ford F-150 FX4) and slide it up on the bed rather than use the first hitch I bought which I had to place it on the cab. Go to Old Town's web site. They've got all the specs there.
  15. Eric... I bought an Old Town 174. The things just over 17 feet long and is able to hold lots of gear. I've done lots of overnighters in a Old Town 169 and have done fine. Just me and my buddy though. You'd be amazed what you can get in a canoe and make it work. Glad to hear you're already planning trips with your kid!
  16. Welp... I'm setting on the deck listening to my stepson jam and sing on the deck as I type. What a Memorial Day weekend! Meeting all of you guys is what this forum is all about. Stinger... glad to have you in the canoe. Buzz, I didn't realize I stold your partner. I know you don't give a hoot. You are my good buddy my man. Wheatie's poppers talked to me the next morning... but they were darn good. Kevin, you're the best. Ronnie... you too. Get your butt down with us next time! Flytyer, it was so great to yak with ya. CDC is an animal... he is a fishing fool. Along with his cousin. Mark, so good to meet you bud! Wiley, we should have been friends together in the 70's. Nuff said there! It was a special day with the kids along. Fishin' SW (Jeremy) you're a good man. So good to meet you too. I need to say nothin' much to my buddy Chief, except thanks.
  17. yep... give you a holler tonight.
  18. Soft plastic, crank, spinnerbait, or topwater at least? Did you float it in two days? I'm heading down june 10th to float Blue spring to Bay.
  19. I should have voted no just to p%#@* you off... but I didn't!
  20. Smithville PC...
  21. "The Guru" (zipstick) mentioned the water was low and clear. Perfect for sighting spawners I suppose? Just wondering what type of shades you were wearing to help you spot them... Far as I'm concerned, there's no train wreck here. We all catch spawners this time of year. March through June for all warmwater species. There are quite a few smallmouth diehards on this forum. I can speak only for myself in that I care for their welfare deeply and when I do fish for them this time of year I cast to likely looking spots just like the next stream fisherman. Simply put, I have caught a few big females and of course they quickly are released. I sure as heck ain't sight fishing though. I have enough luck summer through fall to not mess with the big girls in spring. So go ahead Zipstick and Al... fish your five or six streams over in eastern Missouri and let us know how you do. You're surely experts on those. Could care less about Al's references to eastern streams. This is OAF. I believe there's a few of us here that could teach you guys a thing or two about our favorite waters. And Al... just my opinion, but you're a little long winded. Smart... but long winded.
  22. Hey Ronnie (Flysmallie)... I know you're gonna see this thread. Get your butt down there for the float brother! It's imperative you show up... Lot's to make fun of man...
  23. I envy you GD... you get down there more than I do. Looking forward to an early June trip with Chief and his son. Staying two nights on the river and doing Blue Spring to Bay Creek. Lots of play time. Great pics bud and that is a beautiful smallie.
  24. Poker, ease up a little bud. From what I've read nobody's on your case. In fact you've got an invite to fish! Hope you can join us. You never said you were catching them off their beds. Catching them in deeper water correct? Like you said... this is a good forum. Hang in there... One thing though bud... if you get a PM it's really supposed to be between the person who sent it and you. If it ruffles your feathers work it out with the sender in private. I've been fishing down in SW MO. lately. Maybe I'll see ya down there...
  25. OTF... canoes are $40 on a weekend now!
