  1. Adding ice to a cooler can be tricky. Ice made with chlorinated water can kill your fish. Adding too much ice and dropping water temp too quickly or over 10 degrees can shock and kill your fish. I freeze water bottles and add them to the livewell as needed to cool the water. That way you have no worries about chlorinated water. I know of one fella that dumped an entire bag of ice in the livewell at Truman during a summer tourney instead of bagggin some up and adding a little at a time.. 3 of the 5 fish died and the other two may have lived after being released. Those 5 would have paid right at 1000 dollars had they been weighed.
  2. Very well said. I agree that time on the water is the best teacher of all. However, You also need time on specific lakes at specific times of the year to be consistent catching fish. Some lakes fish very similarly. Others fish totally different. Then there are the particular nuances of lake like a specific bait to throw, types of vegetation to fish, or forage you need to match.. Having a red blade on your spinner bait for example. Being versatile and having the ability to fish various techniques and baits is a benefit to an angler. You don't want to be a one trick pony.
  3. Never fished under the lights. What type of spot do you set up over?
  4. Bob - Sent you a PM
  5. Anyone got a depth chart for #7 flickr shad on 10# test?
  6. Nice mess of fish..
  7. Well said Sac RIver Jim. I have many of the same beliefs as you. Finding fish, trying to figure out why they are there, and figuring out different ways to catch them is far more satisfying than the actual catch itself. I totally enjoy taking folks and putting them on some fish. Maybe they can take something I showed them and use it to help them catch fish in the future.

    Boat Size

The cabins at Stockton Lake are not on the lake, but are the nicest accommodations down there. Stayed at the place right before the mile long bridge on 215 and it was decent too. I run a 16 foot jonboat down there with a 25 and just look at the wind and weather to determine where I put in. PM me if you need more info.
  9. While cleaning a few Stockton crappie last week I noticed bloody looking spots on a few of the fillets. I saw no worms or other parasites and the spots were easy to cut out. Any idea what I was seeing? Wish I'd of taken a picture.
  10. Spots directly compete with small mouth. I'd rather have smallmouth personally.
  11. Nice fish. Be a good reproduction.
  12. What are the dimensions? Aluminum?
  13. Lots of homes for sale in Blue Cat cove at the 47.
  14. Largemouth Bass Spotted Bass Black Crappie White Crappie Green Sunfish Bluegill Goggle Eye Pumpkinseed Channel Cat Common Carp Buffalo Walleye Drum
  15. Any of you use planer boards for trolling on Stockton? If so, how big of a pain are they to run?
  16. I'd have given her dock a wide swing so as not to disturb her fishing. I do not fish docks that have folks out on them. Plenty more to fish without disturbing someone.
  17. I concur that 99% of the dock owners are extremely friendly. I don't care if someone puts their foot against our dock to keep their boat off.
  18. Unreal. I hope they catch whoever did that to you.
  19. Anyone else you care to offend? I was raised in St. Louis and have lived in KC area since 1986. I don't crowd in on others as I find my own fish. Guess I'm a yank too being born in WI. My guess is these folks may not have the ability or talent to find fish on their own regardless of where they are from and have no manners or common courtesy.
  20. Links don't work
  21. So folks just charge in and start fishing the crappie you have found? WOW. Do most of my crappie fishing at LOZ and can honestly say I have never had someone do that. I have had folks jump ahead of me on a bank, but most of them have no clue where the sweet spots are. Are you just fishing a general area or a specific spot?
  22. My advice for mornings is to stay on the move unless you have a few tried and true spots. We whacked them on a couple spots in the morning and these spots were even better in the afternoon. There is some good morning fishing available, but it seems that there are more hot spots in the PM.
  23. Had our basket sunk about 3 feet a couple years ago. Lost 7 or 8 fish out of it. The remains were on top of the black floats under the dock. Only partially eaten. I am guessing otters but have never seen one. I will be setting up dshop on the fellers dock on Friday.
  24. The cooler weather over the weekend made them tougher to catch in the morning, but they were still shallow when we found them. Evenings produced great action for our group. Rippertails in red/chart, black/chart, and blue/white did all the damage for three boats. Great baits that are very durable. Caught 30+ fish on one bait.
  25. Was fishing a gap between 2 docks Saturday morning when my nephew got his line wrapped in the trolling motor. A guy was cutting his grass and came down to chat while I get the line out of the motor. He wanted to know what I was doing so I explained it as the wind pushed us off the bank away from him. Finally got the line out and the prop back on and motored back to where we were. I cast toward the front corner of his dock and caught an 11 incher. Mower shots off and here he comes. He says I don't mind you trolling past and fishing but DON'T BE SETTING UP SHOP by my dock. Really caught me off guard. I told him that his property rights did not include the water and that I could fish anywhere I chose on the lake. He shot me another glare and went back to mowing. We kept fishing. I don't fish docks where folks are fishing, swimming, etc. and am free to give others information on where they are biting and what the preferred jig is. Have lots of folks come by and fish the brush and PVC buckets around our dock. Just don't understand some folks.
