    Guys, The Ned jighead (mushroom head mold) works really good too! I do not put the screw lok in nor use the weed guard. And as Bill mentioned I use Mustad Jig hooks as they are a lighter wire and will pull free most of the time. I cut the very front of swimm'n fluke jr off, slide it on the hook and glue straight to the back of the head. Durable and they never wear out it seems.

    Listen to these guys on the Nanofil deal. I have fished side by side with Ham using the same Nanofil set-up and we absolutely whacked em'. I too, have converted over to Nanofil with a leader...It's my go to now for my trout rod, Ned rod, grub rod and who knows what next. Here's some pics from Ham and I on the White using Nanofil and jigs. Proof is in the pudding. It was blistering cold and windy this day with clear water. I do not recall having any issues with Nanofil this day other than trying to tie that alberto knot with frozen fingers so that might be something to consider. Though, you can use a triple surgeons knot which would be easier but not as strong as the former.

    I haven't ventured into the high priced Mega Bass jerks yet but if your fishing Rogues(they do work) make sure you have that Sour Grape colored one. I am fond of the Spro McSticks as many on here are. The Blue Bandit(fav) and the Norman flake are two very good colors. Hit your search button, a lot of good talk on here of jerkbaits. On the rod, 7' would be great. I don't like too stiff a rod, you need a good butt section with some flex in the tip especially if your fishing the ned on a 1/16th head for better castability. Then again everyone has their preferences.

    Way to bring education of life to the sport of fishing...many lessons to be learned on the water. I amwhere I am today because my father was smart enough to know when I was a youngster and fishing on the lakes in the neighborhood(sometimes even when I should have been studying or doing homework) it was best to leave me be. Later in life he always told me 'Son, I never had to worry about you being in trouble when you were out fishing'. I never fell to the temptations of drugs, smoking or excessive drinking or hanging with the wrong crowd. I had better things to do on the water

    Phil, Well said. Experimentation goes along way with marabou jigs for trout. I have played with custom colors on marabou and heads for some time and do have my favorites. I've done triple colors for sometime and you are on the money. The bright olive you see on this jig is a yellow olive on the bottom, light olive in middle and sculpin olive on top. One of my fav's when theres a little stain to the water or early/late in low light conditions.

    LWW....fantastic idea there. 10 ways to skin a cat and everyone has their own preference but that list right there will get anyone off to a good start. They don't have to copy it exact but that alone will get them on the right track for rod action/line,bait, etc. Thanks, very informative post!

    Seth I can assure those Neds do not work for stream smallies or crappie or catfish or drum or carp or walleye...still looking to catch a white bass on one but I will make that happen this spring with the smoky bling and purple haze colors Just talk to Ham on here, that guy is out to set a record on what can be caught on the Ned!

    My thoughts are to fish the Ned even better than last year and experiment with every color imaginable and different colors of heads. I think my Ned box is ready! Bad news is....while all you guys were whacking em last week on the Ned I got on a A-rig bite that was too much fun and I couldn't pick my Ned rod up though it was laying on the deck rigged and ready.....LOL

    Ham, I was bound and determined! My first trip on the water was going to be a success and I made it happen Sounds as though you are doing pretty good yourself down South on the specks n reds.

    You are correct. Upper Bull Shoals is considered from Tucker on up.I didn't catch all my fish in one spot but I did catch them on the same type banks. So, I would assume you should be able to go anywhere on that upper end of lake and find some fish on chunky bank. Remember though if you go up into Missouri side of Bull that A-rig can only have 3 hooks. In Arkansas you can fish 5 hooked rigs.

    dembones, Tucker is downlake from Kdock. In order from dam downstream.....Pothole(no ramp but I've watched canoes/kayaks launch on shallow side, River Run access, Swan Creek(small gravel ramp), Beaver Creek, K-dock, and several private launches between there and K-dock. I don't recall another public ramp in that stretch. I could be wrong but well, I haven't used it anyway.

    Glad to post. That was my first trip of the year and I couldn't have asked for a better day in regards to technique, numbers and quality of fish.

    Fish, The bite was best early for sure. But the cloud cover really helped me throughout the day. There were a few times during the day you could tell they were running water as the current picked up and that seemed to draw a few more bites when the water flow increased.

    I was on upper Bull today and had a great day....(posted report) and just as you it seemed it was a fish here or a fish there but all on similar bank features. I only ran into two pods of fish and took 3 fish from them both times.

    BTW. The dates on those pictures are in fact, today! I haven't reset my camera. I don't believe I have ever thrown the Arig in June

    I earned a 16-17lb sack today on the A-rig with a bonus 22" eye for the frying pan. All in all, caught 18 with 11 of those being nice keepers. I found the fish in several different areas but mostly it was depth related. Most fish came off of chunky rock. If you had wood on it at the right depth even better. Significant feature changes on the bank seem to be what the fish wanted to relate to. Water temp was in the 42 range AM and I found 49+ by late afternoon. Tried to keep the boat in 25-30ft and casting close to bank. Most strikes.....Left me rephrase that..."Most clobbers" came 1/2 back to boat. I was reeling slowly with occasional pause to let rig flare. Bites seemed to be 12-15' deep. I saw numerous fish suspended at this depth on the graph. They were not shy about eating today, strikes were vicious. Today was my best day on the A rig yet ....Had to throw in that last picture...The two best fresh water fish morsels ever!...notice what's missing?. LOL

    If you wanna see sad run up Bear Creek and check out the undercut bluffs on right hand side about 1/2 back creek arm. The water is low right now and you can see literally millions of them clinging to the shelf rock that's now out of water. You will realize just how major the problem really is. There are more than one may believe!

    Man I must have the luck of the draw...Not only have I hooked the common bat(more than once) but I have also hooked the mighty beaver on Taneycomo as well. A 40# plus beaver takes fly line off in a hurry With 8lb fluorocarbon I darn near burned my palm trying to break the thing off. Lastly, on Swan creek fishing for white bass I hooked a mallard in mid air coming through on the forward cast. They don't come off easy when hooked in the neck! Anyway, I like to fish for a multitude of species on the flyrod.
