  1. I fished yesterday, messing with the new Garmin's Santa brought. Found tons of shad and quite a few fish. Only caught 6 as I just could not get them to bite. A single or 2 up in the water column, you might as well forget that as they run like scared deer. Dimiki on the bottom in a cluster was it for me. Would not touch a spoon or Ice bait. Bites were extremely lite. I would have missed several in that cold without the panoptic live scope. From Cow Creek to Long Creek these deep fish have had baits on them now for going on 3 months and they have just about had a dose. Bout time for me to pick up the jerker or A-Rig and change up.
  2. Terrierman we have the same recipe. Grey really work when fly fishing as you can see depth. My other go to is Orvis, they have outstanding eye wear. I'm also hearing great things about Vicious single prescription shades.
  3. Great question. The FS units lack the bells and whistles that the HDS Live have. Still great resolution. One of my Lowrance buddies Said it really depends on your application. Both will run Active Target, Live Sonar but the FS unit only goes up to a 9" screen. The live units go from 9-12-16 inch screen. If your planning on splits or Active Target you best go with the Live unit. He recommended at least the 12" screen for a single bow unit or if your going to run a multiple screens or perhaps multiple units. He is running a 16" on the bow with 3 way split screen. Active Target, Map, and 2D Console is a 2D, Map and Side Scan split 3 ways. He wanted four, 12" screens, but they were not available to the pro-staff, when he ordered. If your not going to use AT, the 9" FS is plenty good. A little more info and we can refine it closer. Like how your going to use it
  4. Devan, I agree with most of that, but the scouts and PRO organizations, anymore really don't hold the least bit of animosity for players that sit out the bowl games. I really think they prefer 1st. thru 4th. round possible players to opt out. Go start working toward the combine and your pro-day. There are schools from Florida to California that all they do is prepare these athletes for the NFL. They just cannot get that kind of training and refining of their skills on a college campus. Burks body of work was not done that early in the season. He was playing to climb the draft order. He did what he needed to do and then some. Bowl game is not making you any more money. Only post season games that matter are conference championships and national championships. If your not involved in those why play. That's why about 1/2 the kids don't want to play. If your going to make them go out and play a meaningless game, pay them to do it. Only if they want to.
  5. Duck hunters are pounding at them this morning also from Clevenger Island. Those boys are a hearty breed. Hi Donna.
  6. 7:36 and again this morning 20 degree. First boat just went by, North to South. Got to believe them must be migrating instead of fishing. Get em boys.
  7. Finely a picture of my gal. You been holding out on me James😄 James you look really good. Nice Pish Donna is holding.
  8. Got up this morning to 22 degrees and by 8:30 temps had dropped to 20. Saw the first of 4 boats headed from the dam area toward Long Creek. They we're spaced out over an hour period of time. High for the day here was 24 and just prior to dark there were 3 boats sitting in the middle of Big Cedar Hollow deep fishing. Probably saw at least 10 different boats out today in the dam area. Must be great to be young and that energetic with not much concern about the cold. Anyone that brave gets my best of luck wishes and what surprises me were how many guys that were out in it today
  9. Guess we have just seen in the Sugar Bowl why you don't play in these bowl games. Total disaster for Matt Corral. Projected as the 10th overall pick and first QB off the board. We will see how bad it is and how his status is on draft day. Really a shame
  10. Arkansas without 2 starters and Penn State without 6. what if and it happens all the time your best player gets hurt in a totally meaningless game. That’s why all the opt outs. The question was asked do you want to play in a bowl game? 43 percent of the kids said no. Need to have a championship series 12 teams, in 6 bowls. Reseat the next 3 bowls. That leaves 3 teams. Reseat top team gets a by. With NIL the transfer portal and opt outs there are way to many games. For cripes sakes as bad as Mizzou was they still made a bowl. I think 3 people went.
  11. Remember when I asked what if you had more money than you could spend. 😀😀😀 You could hopscotch from Lowrance to Hummingbird to Garmin back and forth to keep up with the Pro's😜😜😜 Happy New Year to all and enjoy all your new toys.
  12. Yes you can do it but it is for sure not the best way. Also why would you want it on the bow, you would have to sit up there and run the trolling motor at 2.5 mph and that would be max speed or above for the Ulterra or the Ultrex. Hummingbird says the boat has to be moving 3 to 5 mph. Were your series 31 batteries the 100AH or the 63AH? These pros are saying the 100AH has no problem running the electronics 8 to 10 hours a day. Might have been fibbing but I looked in the bilge at the set ups and that's what they were.
  13. This is just a guess, but in the pretty near future I think you may see a Panoptics Live scope, that is imaging out to 150 ft. That has 360 degrees of total realtime imaging. As you know that is much further than a side view, and this is something that you use on the bow trolling motor, not having to go 2.5 mph. It will read at any speed, including dead still. This will get rid of the Perspective mount and multiple livescopes. As I said, I think this deal is about to get completely blown up.
  14. Kind of Highjacked Dutch's thread, but here is some really great information I also picked up from these guys. If your running a Ghost or a Force 24/36 trolling motor. Buy a single 24V. 100AH lithium battery to run the troller and 1 series 31 AGM 100AH to run your starting battery and electronics. Your dumping a load of batteries and weight and losing no performance That 24 will run either one of those motors 16 plus hours of continuing operation in any weather condition. Saw different boats they were running that configuration with up to six 12" graphs, on one if them.
  15. To tell you the truth, without giving any shop talk away, you might want to hold off a bit on forward facing electronics. I saw some things. Great answer by nomolites on Steve's question. Yes without a doubt and the best way to go would be to hook up a new Bird to your existing transducer on the Minn Kota as they are symbiotic. I would also replace that transducer so both your graph and transducer were new. Should give you great mapping and good 2D sonar. Bill Beck never ran a transducer over 3 years. Nomolities also hit it on the head with the side view, transducer in the back to a console unit that networks with the bow.
  16. Was down at Russellville getting my Christmas presents put on my boat and there were a bunch of Pro-Fishermen there. Hearing Bird is coming out with a upgrade or a Mega Live II, that is going to come out in late 2022. Lowrance is coming out with some additional refinements to clarify the picture. It currently has greater distance than the Garmin out to 100 ft. but not the quality of picture refinement. Garmin has a couple of new transducers out right now for testing that is going to push out Livescope to 150 ft. Another that will even further enhance 2 D sonar and further define Clear Vu down and CV side images. This is a total arms race, just like computers and phones. In 2 years I've got a feeling all the forward sonar we are using now will be about as useful as a flip phone. Dutch you will be amazed at the numbers of fish you see that totally reject the bait, either real or live. 1 out of 25 bite it. Good luck with the new toy.
  17. Georgia is favored by 2.5, I still don't believe in Smart vs Saban. Smart will try to do what has been working all year, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Alabama vs Georgia is big brother vs little bro. I'm thinking the fighting Saban's by 2 scores.
  18. I wasn't for sure it was a hose job in the fact they ruled his forward progress stopped prior to him reaching out the ball over the goal line. (Runner kind of reached it out as an after thought.) I knew they were going to rule it that way as the side judge was waving his hands even prior to the whistle On top of that I could care less if Tenner ever won another game.
  19. James, you can bet it has. Probably be really happy when you change it out.
  20. Look at the quality of the picture on that HDS unit. Lowrance owns 2D technology and the down image is also state of the art. Look at the flasher on the extreme right side of the screen. You can pretty much see every fish in that school real time. Thanks Doc. Wonderful pictures of fish and how ya did it
  21. Bobby that is great info. Did not know this on the Garmin Ultra. That's why I love this site. Learn something every time I read it. Had to talk to a 1/2 dozen Garmin guys before I could find one that knew about it and really how to get there from here. My Regional Phoenix rep. Got me there. Should have been my first call Go to menus, then setup, then appearance, then A-scope and you got it. Said its not as good as the Lowrance. No one seems to know exactly how to do it on the solix Bobby so if you do please post it when your feeling better. Thanks guys
  22. Never have seen it on either unit. I'm going to have to figure put how to use it in mine. Was told it did not have it. Very interesting I'm going to try and look it up right now. Thanks
  23. Fish247 is right as rain. Bull is by far the King of the White River, Big Winter Sack. Beautiful fish, thanks for posting. Buster and I a few years ago weighed in a 19.9 pound bag in a 100 boat January, derby and didn't get a check. First boat out. I think we also had a 7.1 that was 4th. big bass first big out of the money. We were out of Buck Creek and he accidentally locked my keys in the truck and my wife had to drive from Blue Eye to bring a spare set so I for sure won't forget that day. She won't let me. Guy that won it had 28 pounds on a jerk bait. Including an 8.1. Most of us caught them on an A-rig. Said he had never fished the lake before and saw gulls diving in a creek mouth. Had a jerker tied on and the rest was history. 26# is a Monster sack anywhere and I grew up on Lake O.
  24. Thought it might have been good early but we didn't get out till 10. Couldn't find any bottom fish, ours were suspended over the shad. Some shad as deep as 110 ft. Fish in the 40' to 70' range. Lots of refusal. Notice the Real-time flasher in the extreme right of the screen. If you have a Lowrance enable this feature its fantastic.
  25. Happened to us about 5 years ago in Stone County. Our son got bit, I think 6 punctures requiring I believe 10 stitches. Got bit on our property and did not even know the dog was behind him. Stone County would not send a deputy but did tell me if I took any action other than legal against its owner or the dog that I was going to be the one in trouble. Went in to the ER and got him stitched and a tetanus shot and that was the end of it. This dog had all its vaccination and the ER Doc. said almost zero chance it had rabies. Sorry you had to go thru this.
