  1. The Almighty Largemouth rules the roost. If we're gonna charge $100 to keep those dinky little creek runnin smallmouths, then we should charge $1,000 for a license to keep the King of All Fishes, the Largemouth. The above is all in jest, before anyone blows a gasket and freaks out.
  2. Wow, nice fish! Jeb and I were in the Viney area also yesterday, we must have seen you Duck, just didn't know it. We ended up with a little over 30 fish, but only a couple of keepers. Had a good but brief topwater bite, then we went with jigs and c-rig plastics. They were biting that stuff early really well, then it slowed down considerably. Had a lot of light biters that were tough to hook later in the AM, missed a lot of fish.
  3. Excellent, sounds like a great evening out on the water!
  4. I don't know if anything can be done about it, if you spend time on the water fishing, you're going to run across this kind of stuff especially during the summer.
  5. Probably got 1/4-1/2 inch of rain here in my section of NW Arkansas. Not enough, we need more.
  6. $22K for a crappie? Time to break out the crappie gear!
  7. A pirate walks into a bar, he has a hook in place of his right hand, a wooden leg, and a patch over one eye. Sits down at the bar and orders a drink. Guy sitting next to him asks him how he got the wooden leg? Pirate replies: "Got in a batle on the Spanish Main with a treasure galleon, canon ball took my leg off". Guy asks him why he had a hook on his hand? Pirate replies: "Boarded an English sloop, got my hand sliced off in sword fight." Guy ask him why he has an eye patch? Pirate replies: "Arrr, I was looking up at the mast and it so happened a seagull flew by over head and pooped in my eye!" Guy says: "Wow that must have been some really nasty poop to take your eye out!" Pirate replies: "Arrr, not that, it was my first day with the hook".
  8. I was at Academy yesterday, they were pretty much sold out of the Ike's. Folks seem to like them.
  9. Yep I agree, nice to have a good walleye fishery close by. One of these days I might even fish for them.
  10. Thanks Spook, yeah one of the many reasons I had for getting a new boat was for increased range with more fuel capacity and speed to get there faster.
  11. Thanks for the report!
  12. Anyone that looks like a pirate should be checked.
  13. Thanks guys, I'll see if I can get some fish slime on her tomorrow.
  14. LOL, here it is, not the greatest pic. It's a Phoenix 619, 200 HP Merc.
  15. Benton County Record ran an article yesterday about a smallmouth stocking project the Centerton Hatchery had done recently, they stocked around 2,000 2" smallmouth in the Kings and War Eagle rivers. They stocked another 4,000 in Beaver, but I can't see 4,000 2" Smallies making much of a difference in a lake the size of Beaver. But most importantly, for you wallie chasers, they stocked 187,000 fingerling walleye in Beaver this spring.
  16. I don't recall seeing any tubers etc., up the White today, we did see some in War Eagle yesterday. But things always get crazy on the weekend so who knows what it will be like tomorrow. Good luck on the wallies if you go. Jeb picked up a couple of keeper wallies on a drop shot Wednesday.
  17. Today started for me like yesterday, first fish I caught weighed in at 4.75, right at first light. We started up War Eagle, but it was much tougher than yesterday, we boated one other bass before gving up on WE and heading up the White river arm. We found a honey hole on the White, I'm keeping the location secret, but in an area off a point measuring probably no more than 1,000 square feet, we caught around 25 LM. No big ones, Jeb got a couple of 2 lbers in the boat, but most were 13-15" fish and all LM's except one small spot. We'd catch some, it would slow down, we'd go to another spot for a while - catch nothing - come back to the honey hole and catch some more until it slowed down again. I was using a 3/8 oz GP/orange football jig with a GP Zoom creepy crawler trailer, Jeb was using a mix of stuff, but most of his came on a jig, but he got a couple on a drop shot, and some c-rigged plastics. But as yesterday, the big bass was the first bass caught.
  18. Good on you! Yeah you gotta do it when you're in New England. I do miss lobster. Back in the late 80's before I left, the seafood places would have live lobster for $3.99/lb. in August. Man did I stuff myself..
  19. We went up a little past the WE launch. Didn't try that area across from the water intake.
  20. Funny timing for this topic, today I saw my first Arkansas warden and I have lived here about 6 years now. Jeb and I were loading his boat around 1 PM at the gravel launch at Prairie creek and a warden drove in, he went over and checked some bucket fishermen that were there, but didn't check us (not that we had anything to worry about).
  21. Jeb took me out this AM in his boat (thanks again!), we launched at 0500, headed over to Ventris where I picked up this 4 lb. fish right off the bat, but Jeb had beaten me to the punch, landing a nice 2 lb. chunk minutes before I got mine. Things slowed down, we tried some off shore humps that held some fish yesterday, but couldn't get a good bite, so we headed up War Eagle. Neither one of us had fished WE very much, but we managed to catch another dozen or so LM's fishing jigs and 10" worms around laydowns and points. Not a hot bite but we'd pick up a fish every now and then. Great day to be out, fairly cool for this time of year.
  22. Ex-Bostonian myself, went to Northeastern, worked downtown for 6 years. Add visiting the USS Constitution to your list. It's also your chance to pig out on lobster, should be able to pick them up somewhere in the Gloucester area at a reasonable price, get a steamer for them and chow down! Maybe add some steamer clams also. Man I'm hungry thinking about it! Go Sox!
  23. I still have it, shoot me a PM if you're interested.
  24. The POA is selling maps for Loch Lomond, $5 for a map. Nice maps, they show road beds, brush piles, submerged trees and depth contours. You can pick them up at the POA office.

Don't you just love it when you take someone fishing and the fish decide to take the day off.
