  1. The Benton County Daily Record had a write up on the Polar Bear in Thursday's paper. No info on what the top finishers used or where they fished unfortunately. Winners were Tony Jones and Brad Smith with 6 bass weighing 16.99 lbs. 2nd was Kelly Greer and Brett Winborn, 6 bass 16.44 lbs. 3rd Steven Meador and Aaron Stanfield, 6 bass 16.1 lbs. Big bass 5.47 lbs. Big walleye 4.7 lbs. No mention of stripers. 70 boats entered. There was also a tourney out of Hickory Creek, only 7 boats entered, winners had 2 bass for 2.3 lbs. Big bass was 1.7 lbs.
  2. Cool, thanks for checking that out.
  3. I'm hearing different info on A-rigs in Arkansas, I believe you can use 5 hooks on one, but I've heard some say only 3 hooks - anyone have a definite answer? I have searched the regs online and can't find any mention of the number of hooks you can have on one pole. I believe the striper guys have been trolling 5 hook rigs for years.
  4. Seaguar floro, 10# Invisix.
  5. Not a word in today's paper. Jeb told me that the winner had around 16 lbs. but other than that, no details.
  6. Weather turned out pretty nice for this time of year, sunny with a breeze blowing, you might be right about that Wiggle Wart working today.
  7. Looks like it will be a bit chilly come Monday AM. I'll be interested to hear what they catch them on. I think it will be tough fishing, but there are always a few guys that do good.
  8. I'll be interested to hear how you do on Dale Hollow with them.
  9. I think they are a size 3 split ring. I used some off a broken IMA Flit. I also used a bigger split ring (couple sizes bigger than a 3) on the back and middle hooks on a couple of the STX's. Doing this gave the bait a tail down at about 45 degrees, and slow sink attitude. That has worked well at times lately. The bass on the lakes I'm fishing don't seem to be reacting well to the long pause between twitches routine, I've been catching them working the bait with short pauses between twitches. Water needs to get a little colder I believe before the long pause becomes effective.
  10. I've got a Pro Blue STX that has caught around 20 bass over the last week for me. No water filling issues. I did change out the split rings and hooks. I was tossing a Pro Blue Megabass the other day, when I was retying it I noticed one of the eyes was gone. Darn things are awfully fragile for a $25 lure.

    Haley Gone!

Can't say that I'll miss him, hope the door doesn't hit him on the way out...
  12. Excellent!
  13. It's a good move, Pujols numbers have been declining and will probably continue to go down, he'll still have good numbers, but even in these days of overinflated baseball salaries, he's not worth $250 million for 10 years. And if Ol' Albert doesn't put up numbers to match his salary, he'll hear the boos. He's going to find out what it's like to play in front of fans that expect a triple crown, and will turn on him if he doesn't produce, instead of fans that idolize you.
  14. I ain't watching the so called "National Championship" this year. I already watched LSU vs Alabama and it was a lousy game, unless you like watching low scoring defensive struggles. What if Bama wins this one? Should we then have another game to make it best out of three is the national champ? Screw this crap, I'm boycotting this one.
  15. Congrats! Nice one!
  16. Make it two. Catch and release for black bass would be fine by me.
  17. Nice! Glad to see a reduction in the honker population.
  18. Cabelas has Dobyns Savvy's on sale for $119.00 right now in the Bargain Cave. However they don't have the 5 series, but do have 734's. They had Extremes yesterday for $219-229 but they're already gone, I imagine the Savvy's will go quickly also at that price. I have a Loomis GL2 855, I use it for heavy Biffle type heads and heavy football jigs, it's reasonably light and sensitive for a 5 power rod. Dunno what it would be like with heavy swimbaits but should be OK. I would not use it for cranks or spinner baits however.
  19. Nice fish Trophy!
  20. I was talking to one of the guys that belongs to the BV flytyers club and he thought that the bio made this decision on his own. Kind of surprised me, you would think he would have had called a meeting to get input from fishermen as to whether or not we want those things in the lakes here. They stocked some 7" small trout in Brittany in addition to the normal sized ones they stock. 7" trout is perfect bass candy, could be some bass getting really big in that lake.
  21. Nooooooooo!!! Not another version of an expensive jerkbait! Using a deep diving, $25 dollar bait around cover - that's a scary thought.
  22. Yep the real cuts in spending will have to come out of the big programs, SS, Medicare, and defence. But any cuts to those programs and people freak out. Or we could raise taxes (again people freaking). We seem to be locked into a long slow death march that nobody wants to be in but we just keep marching along. Very frustrating to me.
  23. Got an email from the lakes bio stating that they had stocked 1500 hybrids in Lomond and Windsor (can't remember how the 1500 was split between the 2 lakes). I'm not too happy with this stocking, the bio claims that the hybrids will feed on the shad that are in mid lake that the bass don't fully utilize, but I've witnessed bass feeding on shad mid-lake many times this summer. And the shad were wipred out in Lomond a couple of years ago, I can't see why you'd want a fish that feeds only on shad let loose in Lomond, what happens if the shad die off again? We've got pretty good bass and bream fishing on these lakes, can't see the reason to introduce a new species. Why risk screwing up a good thing?
  24. Nice pics!
  25. Corn prices per bushel were around $2.90 in January 2007, now it's trading around $6.30 a bushel. It's a real price increase especially to livestock growers. It's certainly not all due to ethanol, but it's a factor.
