I have not done any night fishing in a while, I used to fish nights when I lived on the east coast, used to fish black jitterbugs and had some pretty good nights with them. Well I launched at 0330 this morning on one of the local lakes, started out c-rigging a black Zoom Ol' Monster, fished it for forty five minutes with out a bite, so I switched to a 7/8 Black/Blue Jewell football jig and that was the ticket. Caught this guy, about 21 inches, according to the online weight/girth calculator is 4.5-5 lbs.
Lost another one at the boat which looked to be a little bigger, and caught this 2.5 lb fish and and another one about a pound.
Had about an hour of good action, then it started getting light and they shut down, fished for another hour without a bite. I think I'll try and get out a little earlier tomorrow. Sleep is over rated right?
The best part of all this is when you're crawling that jig along the bottom, can't see a thing, it's all feel, and the you feel that THUMP-THUMP, man you can't beat that.
