That is a healthy looking fish! Nice to see it released, looks like it has more growth potential.

I use a throw net to catch shad. I catch mine over on Grand Lake, not as many shad in Beaver, but if you're fishing out of a boat bring your net with you in case you run across some shad. You can also use small bream.

Well I'm thinking Alumacraft, Lund or G3, aluminum boat that I can use for bass fishing but also for striper trolling. I noticed the bass were off the beds up in Indian creek yesterday, funny how quickly this weather can turn them around this time of year. May have to go back to jerk baits

Well I'm thinking upgrading to a new boat rather than a new trolling motor. And go to a stronger trolling motor/battery setup in the new boat. The windy banks were where I was getting bit yesterday, so that's the place to be.

Went over about noon, fishing was slow for me, picked up one keeper K and a few shorts on a grub, fished for a couple of hours and it got really windy, too windy for my boat, so I packed it in and went back to the ramp. I would have liked to fish a few more hours, but it was just too windy.

I always go over to Grand lake when I want to catfish, and I net shad and use them for bait, I mainly catch blues but sometimes I do pick up some channels. They did stock Beaver last year with blues, I forget how many, but if you can get some shad that's what I would use, either cut or whole.

I didn't stay with the blacks for long, got into fishing for whites and crappie and got diverted I bet you do good out there today.

Launched out of Lost Bridge North and headed up one of the side coves on the Indian Creek branch. Threw some largemouth stuff around, stickbaits, spiiner bait, and swam a worm - did not get jack. I saw some whites in the back of the cove so I put on a 1/4 OZ White Road Runner and picked up some whites, it wasn't hot fishing for them but I got about 10 in the 1 pound range, also picked up 3 crappie. Enough for a fish fry. Whites were acting like black bass, I would pick them up around lay downs, one or two at a time. Saw quite a few blacks on beds, didn't see any big fish, but a lot of 1- 1 1/2 lb fish. Crappie had eggs in them, so did the whites, everything seems to be spawning at the same time this year. Saw some top water action too, no stripers, appeared to be either whites or blacks chasing shad - didn't have the topwater stuff with me unfortunatley.

That's interesting what you guys are seeing on TR, AGFC does a cove survey on Beaver every year, and last year there was a large increase in panfish and bass numbers in the survey, lots of young crappie and bass. So many spots that they thought about increasing the daily limit to 10. They attribute the increase to the high water the last couple of years flooding the brush and providing more cover for the young fish. You would think that would apply to TR but apparently not.

White water off the bow??? If there's no wake then what does it matter? I could see if you went flying through there, but having been in your boat when you idled down to go through there, there's no way you should get ticketed, and even if they thought you were going a little too fast they should still just give a warning, that's ridiculous to write a ticket. Hopefully you can win in court. What kind of cops were they? Rogers PD?

No I did not see anything top water wise except for jumping carp. Didn't see any shad either. Usually I'll accidentally pick up a white or two this time of year, but I did not catch or see any whites either.

Tough day for me, fished 7 hours, maybe 8 fish total, 4 keepers, all on stick baits. I started off trying the SM banks near the dam, I was hpoing to find a toad, but I only caught the one in the pic below. Then I worked the coves and picked up a spot every now and then, could not find the hot bite. Awesome day to be out, the Redbuds are the best I have seen in the last few years, they are everywhere on the road into the Lost Bridge launch.

I might be there this weekend, so many places to fish, so little time...

Hey Jdelow, I saw some folks fishing from the bank at Hickory Creek State Park (on the HC cove side) and they had stringers with white bass on them, so Hickory Creek cove may be worth a shot. I picked up a few whites Saturday fishing a Mcstick in Piney creek cove so that may be worth a shot also. If you work the banks in that area with a Mcstick or something similar you'll probably pick uip some whites, but I can't say if you'll find a hot bite. As a bonus you'll probably pick up some black bass too. The folks at Hickory Creek marina probably could give you some info also.

JEB, thanks again for taking me, John is a great guy to fish with and his boat is an awesome fishing platform! As far as schooling anybody, it was John who knew where the fish were at, we went right to the hot bank and I had fish #1 on my fourth or fifth cast. Could not have done it without John's knowledge of the PC area. Thanks again for a great day! My big fish of the day, she came up behind the boat busting some shad on top, threw the Mcstick at her and she grabbed it on the 2nd twitch. I also caught a Buglemouth bass, AKA a carp on the Mcstick, it had it in it's mouth so I guess it wanted to eat it.

I launched about 0800 and headed way up War Eagle looking for whites, could not find any but caught a couple of LM's, one keeper and a couple of shorts on white Road Runners. BTW for you striper guys, there were lots of guide boats up War Eagle fishing shad under balloons. I then decided to try for LM's and zoomed to Piney creek cove, fished a Mcstick, picked up 3 whites and a couple of shorts LM's. Wind started howling so I decided to head back to the launch, decided to stop and fish a shallow cove near the Hickory creek launch, threw a spinner bait at some shallow flooded buckbrush in the back of the cove and found a pretty good bite, caught 6 or so 12 inch LM's all skinny males. In honor of my first SB bass of the year I took his picture. Did I mention there were LOTS of boats? I have never seen so many fishermen on Beaver, lots of bass boats, lots of crappie fishers, and quite a few striper boats. When I was on War Eagle I bet a boat zoomed by every 10 minutes on average, and I am not exaggerating. You could not go down a bank for more than 15 minutes without coming across another boat. All the water I fished was stained brown with maybe a foot of visibility.
