  1. Back in the summer, I had some damage on a blow up wading pool I had in the back yard covered in a blue tarp. I came home, the tarp was muddy and the top rung of the pool was punctured. No rain for a month, so I figured a dog would not be muddy. I thought about feral swine. Run by today to check on the bees, it was warm and sunny and they were flying good. I noticed the tiller was knocked over by the garden. I dismissed it as kids, but checked the game cam later. Come to find out it was a feral hog. Probably came from the same worthless neighbor that had the mule I shot year before last. People really need to contain their livestock. How much money does it take to fence in less than an acre?
  2. You were probably outside of the 1000 yard marker. Usually posted with skulls and bones.
  3. That was just a little fun between me and Ness, I didn't figure you would get it Chief.
  4. 1000 yard shot only apply to property owners that own large tracts of land and need to repel trespassers. But, practice makes perfect. Once again, the more training the better. The more you shoot, the better you will be with your equipment. No matter what the range, practice. The only CCW holders that I worry about are the ones that do the minimum, have no previous experience with firearms, and think that is enough to make do. They are only 1 step above the ones that have never fired a gun.
  5. Well put Ness, second hand smoke sucks. I have often wanted to take a bat and point out the effects of second hand smoke on an allergic non smoker that has had too much. Once on the head to relate the headache that it causes. Once in the nasal cavity to let them know how it feels to breath thru clogged sinuses. Smack them twice in the ears to simulate the clogged eustachion tubes that cause ringing ears and clogged hearing. Smack them twice in the chest to let them know what restricted breathing is. Jab them in the throat to make it hurt too.
  6. Howdy neighbor.
  7. I really hope it retains its semi pristine state after next year. But will be looking forward to seeing it all again. I have not seen the cable car since the 80's, that was the last time we had permission to go there. I would not have used it then, surprised it still works today. There is another over Cinque Hommes in Perry Cty we used in the 90's. Crossed one turkey season where my feet almost dangled into the raging flood waters. Was hunting with a local that posted me near a big sink that morning before daylight. Lucky I did not wander till daylight, big hole in ground just off the road in front of where I was posted.
  8. The original post was just an ad for training. Wrench really went off the wall on the safety issue. That is covered in EVERY training course I have been in. Until you go there, you will never know. Now, if you were to take offense as a spelling instructor, you could pick on the spelling errors of the original post.
  9. Would you have responded the same way if he merely stated that he completed the 8 hour course to CCW and felt comfortable about CCW? I think his efforts to continue his education shows a commitment to the responsible that CCW carries. I would definately feel more comfortable around him.
  10. They changed the access several years ago. Before that you parked at the mill before you drop off the hill into the valley of the river. Dry weather and low flows have probably reduced the dissolved solids that give the spring its traditional blue hue. I think as of this spring, all of the spring branch will be open to the public. Then you will get to see the mill and its unique system of pulleys that drive it way up on the hill. The private cabins and fishing areas, the cable car across the spring branch will probably all be open to the public as well. It is a very special place indeed, kept private all of these years by Private ownership. Hard to say what the new Public ownership will do to it.
  11. Sounds like any mention of a firearm brings out the worst in you. If you don't understand, don't bother to pick on others. Beat them to death with a fishing rod when the thugs come calling to take your stuff.
  12. Liberal farmers are the biggest users of government subsidies. Those aren't Conservatve Farmers standing in line for all of those subsidies.
  13. Now it looks like they are going after another local town regarding the leaflets, Desloge, Mo. And they are not backing down. http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/kkk-sues-desloge-over-leaflets/article_bdd15051-2285-5819-9f55-4812335ade6d.html
  14. Most Farmers tend to lean to the Left, Democrat. Why do you always have to pick on the GOP?
  15. Friends boat, he is getting it fixed. Ripped the trolling motor off the bow and clogged the water pump that day too. Bad day for the old boat. We floated Riverton to the Narrows that weekend too after downing the boat in kayaks and canoes. I would say there are some tricky spots down that way too, especially around the spring branch above narrows. Fishing was ok. Need alot of rain.
  16. Nice piece, have not seen one of them in a while. I carried a Hardballer for a while.
  17. Yep, about 4 knuckles worth. Was running a shoal and grazed a big rock, split the transom away from the bottom about 6 inches wide. We watched the only other boat that day at Riverton come in with 2 nice holes in his.
  18. I really hope they can build up the populations. I have never caught one yet while fishing and am waiting for the day.
  19. I really don't know why they have to close them at all since most are heated. The unheated ones have to be drained. That was something that I could not understand at Montauk, keep at least one open for the entire season. It would probably pay for itself in increased camping. Of course, they would sell less motel rooms if they did that.
  20. They have placed new rocks around the ramp area to block the campers out of the area. Of course, that was 2 weeks ago and will probably not deter a dedicated deer hunter long. As long as you do not wander far from the stream bank and wear orange, you should do good. The river is so low that jet boat traffic was nil when we were there. And we tore a hole in ours.
  21. Well put. But when they make it all touchy feely like you are supporting your local school, it sounds like a great idea. Take the lottery, how many winners took the money and created an industry that employed people and become an asset to the community?
  22. Here is one from a conservative site, the Clinton Brodcast System, aka CBS. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57515033-503544/fact-checking-romneys-47-percent-comment/ He rounded up, actually 46.4 percent. 47 just sounds more impressive.
  23. Well, it turned out to be a pretty good day. Daylight broke about the Belleview Mountains as I passed thru them on HWY 32. Arrived at the park around 8 and it was really empty. I did notice alot of traffic heading down the gravel road to the lower accesses, so I bought a tag and headed to the lower end of the park. Only one soul from the parking lot to the end of the park. Picked up a few fish in the riffles by the parking lot and then walked down to the cabins. The park guys were dragging a motorized something out at the turd ponds and they fired it up. I walked thru the cabin holes and started fishing by the first bluff. Picked up a few fish on a bead head nymph. Fish starting working the top sipping mayflies so I tied a size 18 CDC Cahill and was into a fish in a few casts. This went on for about an hour and I ended up landing 10 fish on the cdc flies. Then the smell starting getting to me, the rank off the turd ponds was pretty bad this morning. I was getting hot so I bailed and walked back. The motor was a sump pump draining one of the ponds into the river. I then realized I had been marinating in the stuff all morning. YUCK Back to the lower end and I picked up a few there at the put in spot. Drove to the upper end of the campground and fished down to the handicap access and picked up several more. Still only seeing one or two other fishermen the whole time. Had lunch and headed up to the fly area. Fished the catch and release area and landed 5 in that spot, one going about 2 lbs. Fished the bluff area in the fly zone but the fish were not really doing anything there. It was getting about time to drive back, so I cut across the island to the back side of the hatchery office. I noticed several hanging out in that hole, so I tossed a bead head in there. Ended up with 5 more till I broke off and decided to call it quits. Water was clear and low. Sun was bright and fish were skittish because of that. But was still a 50+ fish day. Nothing large, but fun. If only the park was like this all season.... No crowds, no stupidity.
  24. 47 percent of the United States does not pay income taxes according to government reports. They still contribute by way of sales tax and gaming commissions, liquor and tobacco taxes, fuel taxes but not in Federal Income Tax. They get back more than they contribute with EIC and Child Deductions. They seem to loath and vote against the ones that do contribute to the Federal Income Tax. But the burden of the taxes are really carried by the upper percentage of wage earners and the middle class. Then there are the retired ones that do not pay income taxes any longer but did in their lifetime. They seem to worry and vote against anyone that may mention Social Security and Medicaid Reform. The 47 percent has been around longer than Mitt Romney has been running for POTUS and many have brought it up. His statement was merely stating a fact that that group will not be convinced that a Fiscal Conservative may ever help them to lead a better life. So why target them in a campaign? As far as crime, when the one came into Caruthersville, several retail shops I visited on a regular basis reported increased breakins and night time robberies. They added bars to the windows, beefed up security, and cut back on inventory to curtail losses. Of course, they were outdoor businesses that specialized in guns. Don't really know what goes on in OK, never been there. This is a classy establishment too, but nothing of interest for me that I can see. If I want to gamble some cash, I will try some new sporting gear to see if it lives up to its fame. At least I will have something tangible for my efforts.
