How big are the hackles on your wollie? Longer hackles will catch more wind and water and twist the line. You could try a reverse palmer and tie the hackle different or use a smaller hackle.

Why purpose any new laws? An ethical sportsman will only take the fish he needs to eat anyway, the others will do what they do no matter what the law is. Enforce the laws and limits already in place and stop the lawbreakers. If you see a lawbreaker, turn them in and help out in the enforcement. The rule book already needs a lawyer to figure it out anyway. No need to complicate it further. There are White Ribbon areas that are packed daily with fish called Trout Parks. The other areas are wild enough that they could support a trout marginally, but have displaced the native fish in the stream to the point that we have lost the natural balance of the stream. I see both sides and lean both ways, I like to trout fish and I like to fish for other species. I don't rely on the fish for food so I am indifferent to the management of each species to feed my family. I do like "quality" fishing, I don't like practicing my casting to dead water. The White River System was a Premium Smallmouth stream till the river was dammed and the water temps were lowered. It was at that point the introduction of Non Native trout became the prime species on that system. Eleven Point River was a prime Smallmouth Stream till the Rainbow trout was introduced. Both compete for the same food source and the Rainbow Trout has the advantage by the unnatural selection of the MDC dumping an overwhelming amount of them in the stream every month by boat and truck. Spring River in Arkansas is another example. Probably many more of the many stocked streams in the US have experience the same problem. We messed with nature by stocking non-native fish to fill our desires, not nature's natural process of selection.

You can't carry drinks on a backpacking trip??? I saw a guy in Alaska carry in all of his stuff and a 24 pack of Budwiser thru a few miles of heavy brush and muck to the Kenai. That was the one that sold me on Goretex waders, what he came thru was so soggy that he wore his waders on the hike and they were still watertight. Tent, bag, food, stove, flyrod and vest, and that silly red and white case of beer strapped on his back appeared across from camp on a path that we had just watched a grizzly drop out of a few hours before. I would have just packed a pint of good whisky and mixed it with water. I really don't think I could have a camp without a good roaring fire, it warms you, dries you, and prepares you for a cold night in the tent, then it warms you up in the morning. I don't like the smoke either and put the tent out of the smoke. I camp alone alot, but seldom hit the sack before 10 or 11. I sure would not pack a cell phone on a backpack hike, too much weight.....

What are you afraid of? We all have to die some day.

Strong front coming in will probably slow down the warmwater fishes for a few days then they will really turn on for the fall feed. Trout should be pretty consistent, may affect hatches of insects. It will be more comfortable to fish and enjoy the outdoors.

What is the commercial about? What browser do you use?

Why would you go to bed at 4?? Why not build a fire and have a few drinks around it? Then you can sleep like a baby. Download a book and read it on your phone for a little entertainment. My gripe was that I was OFF work and work was bugging us.

Dropped off the grid today for a little fishing. Had to deliver some product to a customer close to the Current River, so made a full day of it. Out the door and on the road at 3 am. Took a small nap at Baptist till the sun came up and started getting ready when the duck call started going off. The dam cell phone. Next, my buddies started beeping a message. Walked away and went upstream. Fished till after 9 and caught a few nice ones during a beautiful morning. We had deer, beavers, muskrats, and a irritated kingfisher. Back to the truck, both phones beeping missed messages and voicemails. Went to the lodge for breakfast, came back out and the phones were ringing as we opened the door. I really don't know why we did not kill the power to them. I did call one back and tell them that I was off and fishing at Montauk, was wished good luck and he let me go. We fished the park till 2 then back to business. Wind was kicking up and fishing dries was getting tough. I like technology, but I like to get away. Mine stayed in the truck, my buddy carried his on the river and answered a few calls that amounted to nothing that could not have waited. The new service really sucks in my opinion, who's idea was it to put one there in the first place? And the van never showed up at Baptist, but I was ready.

I even brushed it up some more since that pic with some more raffia. Teal season was a bust, only got to hunt opening day and storm came in from south. 36 more days till ducks...

I have a 2 hour drive to both of them and I always stop in and visit both. Bob and Crew do a great job, are well stocked, and have an excellent mail order business. Tom and crew are a little lower keyed and more down to earth, have a great shop, and are always great to shoot the bull with. I have never had any complaints about either, great bunch of guys with wonderful shops.

Not anymore, Federal Lands are open to carry, concealed or openly. Has been that way for a few months now. Still places like campgrounds or gatherings of Federal Employees, Federal buildings and grounds are off limits. It is subject to States Rules. If you are CCW certified, you can carry concealed, otherwise, open carry is allowed. You can hunt on ONSR Lands with proper licenses. Someone breaking into a truck is hardly justification to end his sorry life, but, if it had been me, he would have been looking down the barrel of a loaded weapon or retreating very fast.

Crawdad color ShadRaps, Firetiger, Gold and Black, and Perch are good colors too. If the fish are runnin in shallow water, switch over to the SSR model with the shallow lip.

I was thinking it was just an empty field as he was describing it and I pictured the field across the ford at Tan Vat as being what he was talking about. I have camped in that valley campground a few times years ago when the park was full, then it was closed for a while. It has changed hands a few times I think. Nice quiet little valley and good place to camp if it is open, just a little further to drive to the river. Cedargrove has campsites and a pit toilet or two above and below the bridge. There is a big open field on the lower end that used to have alot of camping but was growing up last time I was thru there. There are spots to camp at Parker too.

Civil War Battle Field by Tan Vat access?? I am not familiar with that one. Are you talking about Cedargrove?

Good Justification For The Spouse's Boob Job!
jdmidwest replied to jdmidwest's topic in General Chat
Good thing the braless movement of the 70's did not catch on. We may not survive the next attack if it did. -
Did you file a report or get the plate number?

Went thru a few old Herters books, Flytying and Rodbuilding. None showed any of the tools or vises like the catalog did. The other vise on the right has about the right shape and size to hold one of the old Herters bobbins so I am guessing that was what it was for. Nice old equipment.

Good Justification For The Spouse's Boob Job!

I doubt the jock strap would smell as good..... But to each his own. -
The other vice was placed on a bench about a foot away with the 4 hole thing on it to hold spools or cement. The rubber part and the hook were to hold a thread spool out of the way when you were wrapping. I actually saw it in use on the fly vise in the catalog in the fly tools section, functions about the same as a spool holder arm on a Renzetti vise. The stand on the right has a cradle that may have been used to support a rod also, I don't really know. It was not shown in the catalog. I will dig out my copy of Herter's Rod Building and Fly Tying and see if the tools are in there.

In case of a biological or other air borne contaminate attack or problem, you can always use her bra as a respirator. Here is the article. Bra Respirator

The second photo, the object on the left was to hold the spools opposite a fly vise or a rod wrapper, the clamp is upside down. Still not sure what the right hand one is. They are all Herters and were in my 1972 catalog and probably in one of the fly tying manuals. Herter's produced some interesting stuff and I collected a bunch of it years back when it was being dumped off on eBay. Now it is really scarce. Thanks for the post, while digging out the catalog on the bottom of the book shelf, I came across an old Gerber dive knife complete in a box that I had forgot I had..... Good thing the youngun has not found it yet!
-
The first is the Herters Rod Wrapper, the wire guides in the 3rd pic go with it to hold the rod while you wrap the rod. The middle pic contains 2 pieces I have not seen. The 4 hole thing went onto the stem of a vise to hold thread spools or cement. I will dig out an old Herters catalog and see if I can place the other 2.

Rain=X On A Kayak Double Ended Paddle
jdmidwest replied to woodman's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Only if you quit buying it and use Rain X. -
Thanks Brian. Years ago on that stretch you would have came across walleye in the deeper holes, but since the mysterious walleye decline they are getting scarce on the whole river system. Alot of it depends on what they are surveying and where they shock. No carp yet I hope.

I thought the article was about FDA approval for human consumption, which I don't really see the issue of. I realize the analogy of the apple tree was weak, but essentially the same. You graft a section of gene into a salmon gene and make a altered salmon with a desirable trait. You don't create a new species of fish, just a altered salmon. And as for 60 foot salmon, if they are created, the MDC will probably trade some turkeys for them and we will get a chance to hunt them....
