I would get them appraised. The model 70 may be worth some money depending on the age and if the BOSS is factory or aftermarket. Ithaca is getting hard to find. Sales to individuals of long guns is usually safe, I always transfer handguns to a dealer. Don't know where you are, find a reputable gun shop and have them take a look. If you have enough other stuff, an estate auction usually brings a premium lately for guns. Take your time and don't rush in to anything. Since the Obama regime, guns are going up in value every day.

I had to fight off an Bald Eagle last weekend going for a crippled mallard last weekend.

The slug would be the best choice. Be sure to screw in a Cylinder or Improved Cylinder choke tube if so equipped as it is the only choke recommended for slugs. If the 870 has a vent rib, you may try to find some of the fiber optic sights that attach to the rib to give you a better sight pattern. Spend a little extra money on the slugs and they will shoot more accurately. Remember to limit your shot to shorter ranges, I would suggest no farther than 50 yards based on the fact that you will probably not have time to get much practice in. Try to borrow a rifle or even a large bore handgun and you may have better results. Good luck this weekend.

Just to add my 2 cents, it is not fair if someone owns 5 acres and actually hunts and tags deer or turkeys on the 5 acres. If not, go to 2nd question, we need more enforcement of existing rules, regulations, policies. 5 acres is enough to be successful in a deer hunt provided that it is the right spot. I feel 40 would be more realistic and 80 is probably excessive. Last 2 seasons, I harvested 2 nice bucks standing in the exact same spot after crossing our pasture field as it was driven out by neighbors. The majority of my deer have been harvested off one 40 acre timber area on our farm and all of the deer in my life have come from our farm except for 1. I could hunt other places, but population control on our farm is the main reason I hunt there.

Maybe you should start charging admission around here to keep the undesirables out. Seriously, you toss more money at this site than you should. I can hardly imagine what the bandwidth, software, time, and effort really costs for us to be able to goof off on here. It is a great site and there are some great people on here.

Old days, MDC would mail a form and we would fill it out for the free tags as a landowner. Only the landowner, leasee, spouse, or immediate household residing there qualify now and always. Then they went to the computer system, you go to a vendor and it spit out all of the tags, Spring and Fall Turkey, Archery, Firearms, and Blackpowder, and any bonus tags for the county you apply for. Then last year, only 1 any deer. You could purchase additional Antlerless deer tags for firearms. This year, back to normal, 1 antler, 1 antlerless. My father and I own our land and we both reside there. At times, his spouse, when he is married received landowner tags. My spouse when I was married never hunted. My nephew has resided with us at that residence and is eligible also. We allow other family members to hunt, they purchase tags. The amount of Free Tags should equal the amount of legal deer we could take in the county if we were paying for the tags. Last year, in our county, if you purchased tags, you would have gotten 1 any deer for $17 and could purchase an additional Antlerless for $7. That is what I felt we were entitled to as landowners last year per qualifying person. Did I say it again where it makes more sense?

Ok Tadman, I'll say it real slow you you can understand. I have owned an AR15 Semi Auto Colt Rifle in .223 since 1986. I have used it to hunt and kill deer, ground hogs, coyotes, crows, and various other varmints. It is a flat shooting, rugged, easy to clean and maintain firearm that I don't have to worry about the stock swelling up on during a rain storm or rusting due to its parkerized finish. I have spacers for the factory 20 round clip that restrict it to 10 rounds, and that makes it legal to hunt with in MO. I have a 22 lr. adapter that converts it and allows me to plink and take small game like squirrels and rabbits. It was banned under the Clinton Assault Weapon bill because it had a flash hider, threaded barrel, bayonet lug, and the capability of a magazine greater than 10 rounds. It has a synthetic stock made of black composite, hence the ugly term, black rifle. The AR15 is fun and cheap to shoot. It is modular, you can have many different combinations and calibers, the lower part is the only part that has to be transferred with an FFL. I think you have a misconception, probably from watching too much TV, that is a long range rifle. I would class it below the power and range of any of the rifle calibers you mentioned, so your jab about range is mute. As far as the millions hunters hunt with them, well I pulled it out of my butt. But seriously, aside from the game hunted in the United States, our soldiers drop a few terrorists with them every day. About the only thing I agree with you on is: You really don't sound like much of a hunter, really! And you are making an impression on here that you are not God's Gift to anything!

KK, no offense was taken, I just took the time to explain the situation further. We control the numbers of hunters, MDC controls the numbers of free tags. Allowing other hunters usually opens up alot of other problems. Invite one, he starts bringing buddies, next thing you know, you don't have a good spot for yourself. We have enough family to cover the farm. The deer have never been a real problem since the row crop days. Back then they could eat alot of beans. Now, in years of no acorns, they just keep areas of the pastures clipped. Heaven forbid you plant clover or alfalfa, we did that one fall and they worked on it all year. Our hay crop was not as good on that section as it should have been. Our property is surrounded by some of the worst deer poachers in the area. I had to run one out during youth season.

There was no complaints about the hunting part, just the availability of free tags to control the population. We were sitting on the border of a control unit that only allowed bucks for years even after the new system started. I could walk across the road on two corners of the property and shoot does but not on our land. We had to apply for special permits to take the does that were needed to control the population. With the new computer system we were automatically given a bonus tag with our farm tags till last year. Last year, we would have had to buy additional tags to harvest additional deer. This year, we get the bonus tags again.

I use Orvis Hy Float and it works well. Nothing is a substitute for poor grade hackle or material that absorbs too much water. There are treatments like Water Shed that is a liquid silicone that you can pretreat the fly with beforehand and allow to dry for a minimum 24 hours. Most any will sink after a fish or two. Most flies I tye incorporate CDC to give them floating capabilities.

It is a pain in the butt, you will probably have to restart in safe mode to get rid of it. Run the Malwarebytes program in Safe Mode and it may clean the registry entries. To get to Safe Mode, as the computer is starting up with the black screen, press F8 until the option menu comes up. Select the first one on the list, it loads Windows without all of the drivers and should bypass the Malware in registry. Run Malware Bytes or search the registry for the infected parts from here and you should get rid of it. It is not really a virus, it is Malware.

I have to disagree that Assault Rifles have no place in hunting of any kind. AR15 type rifles are fast becoming the most popular hunting rifle because of its modular capability of swapping out calibers and accessories. Varmits, gophers, deer, hogs, and many other game species fall to a Assault Rifle by millions of hunters each year. Most major manufacturers offer an AR15 style rifle in their catalog now. Clinton came close to outlawing the famous Remington 742 and other Semi-Auto rifles and shotguns in the first ban. The words SEMI-AUTO were used in conjunction with terms like Machine Gun by the press to heighten the scare. Don't bury your head in the sand and think it won't happen again, it has before. It was not till the latest Supreme Court decision that you could keep a handgun in your HOME in Washington DC. That right had been taken away from them by local government.

I did some checking this week and classes are booked solid for quite some time now. Everyone is rushing to get it done before Jay Nixon repeals it.

Ammo is just one thing, due to metal prices and hazmat fees on powders, it has really went up in the last year. Lead, copper, and brass are climbing and there are shortages due to wars and hoarding for the coming of the new Messiah. There has been rumors about the serial numbering of ammo to track it. The technology of this sort of thing would be very expensive. Also, there are movements that are wanting to eliminate lead of any type anywhere. This will add to the costs of ammo. Already some states are banning firearm killed meat to the food bank programs like Share the harvest because of lead poison. NRA can go to extremes sometimes, but it is a better extreme than the forces that tend to interfere with my 2nd Amendment Rights.

One week later and the rush to stock up on guns and ammo is causing pandemonium at local gun shops. I stopped by my local one and watched the show for a while. Mainly handguns and ammo by the cases. Local CCW classes are booked up for a long time. AR's are selling like hotcakes and prices are going up again. Do you see any of this going on where you live? Wow, over 3 weeks now and no aggravation from any of the neighbors dogs.

I think my neighbor may need one also, he lost one in an accident a few weeks back.

Last year I felt screwed as a landowner, I only got one tag for an "any deer". In the past, we got at least one bonus and I used it during the Muzzleloader part. I complained along with other landowners to the MDC and this year when my tags printed, I got both the Antlerless and the Any Deer tags. Last year it would have cost me an extra $7, which was BS because we take deer to control the population for the most part. Last year, acorn crop was nil, there was a drought, and the deer were in the pastures eating up grass we use for the horses. Hay was scarce due to a late frost and we really could not tolerate any "crop damage". One field we counted 30+ deer in a 30 acre patch and they were keeping the grass pretty thin. We own 235 acres, so the new law will not affect me or my dad. On a normal year we harvest 5-10 deer off our property depending on who we let hunt it. I harvested a 120 class buck and the others ended up with 5 slick heads. Had we received the free bonus tags, 5 more could have been thinned out. I believe that the winter and other factors may have done some herd thinning this year because the deer signs have not been as thick.

How about that Obama guy, by this time next year we will be hunting with sticks and stones! Who will care if there are any licenses.

It won't be until the 2009 season anyway!
