  1. More patterns on that blog too. Nice.
  2. Somebody remembers the President's of the United States? They should have went on to more albums. Little Dune Buggy, Sittin on My Back Porch, and my fav. Kitty. I am calling it a bear, maybe. Its peaches for sure.
  3. I laughed at my buddy Sunday when we arrived at the park. It was the longest drive that I could remember getting to the park. In old days, get up a 3 and try to make the horn or shortly after. Anymore, Its more like this weekend, enjoy the trip and the sideshow, then catch a few fish. Reeds is a good source for everything at the park, they should get you on track when you get there. As far as Geocaching, www.geocaching.com is the place to go. It lists all the sites, you can download them to a gps or smartphone and head out. My buddy is a geocache fool, carries a bag of stuff to put and take. I just sign off and go. I like to dig thru and see what some leave and read the log. Some logs leave a paragraph or two, most are just dates and user names, mine is jdmidwest. They can take you to some interesting places, and that is what I like about it. Cemeteries are my favorite, there is alot of history in them. Some we have been to hold some of the original citizens that homestead the land. Geocaching has been a great time killer between myself and some of my friends. It is like the old time scavenger hunt with modern tech. You can use a smartphone, but most are remote and you will not have a signal, so a dedicated gps device is needed. There is some skill and reasoning involved, most that place the cache try to hide them well to prevent the public from stealing them. I signed off on a log this weekend that was a magnetic tube about the size of a medium popper fly. I also visited one that held more trinkets than the local dollar store. It is fun to do when the weather deals you a crappy day but you still want to get out of the house.
  4. After a week from hell, it was time to get out of town. I had not been to Montauk since I closed it out last fall on Halloween. After seeing the forecast, I booked a room at the Country Inn in Licking. Calling for rain and a burn ban in the park killed the idea of camping. I hate camping without a fire, pretty boring sitting around a dark campsite drinking beer. Picked my buddy up at Terre Du Lac at 9am Sat. It was already cloudy and misting by the time we made it to Potosi, so we decided to kick back and do some yard sales. Yard sales turned to flea markets and pawn shops by the time we arrived in Salem as the rain picked up some. We did that till 5 and closed the last one down. Checked into the motel in Licking and out came the GPS. Off to Houston to Geocache. Picked up a dozen caches then drove back to Licking to eat at Olig's BBQ. After that, we knocked out a few more caches in Licking and called it a night. Got up this morning and had a nice breakfast at the Coffee Cup in Licking. Finished up finding the last few caches in Licking and off to Montauk. Crowds were light and the river was low. We fished the upper end of the campground to the handicap bridge and caught several fish. All my fish in the morning were on a bead head nymph. After that, up to the fly area. We fished an hour in the catch and release stream. They were really liking the foam beetles and we caught several each. Then over to the river and we picked up several more on primrose and pearl and my new lightening bug. Drove back home picking up a few more caches along Hwy 32. Followed a rain from Caledonia to TDL. Came home and watered the garden and the bees. A nice relaxing weekend.
  5. I have seen them in line while waiting to buy my used to be "on the shelf" Sudafed that I take daily for allergies. One tell tale sign is the rotten missing front teeth. Sores on their lips where they burn them on the pipes, Twitchy, nervous behaviour, can't stand or sit still.
  6. Nobody else remembers the Crippled Caddis that used to post on here?
  7. Yet the average Walmart Pharmacy can't tell the difference between them and someone suffering from a cold or allergies........ The actual burden to society is the money spent on the penal system to house them, the Hazmat Teams to clean up their messes, the dental bills charged to Medicaid, and the thievery of honest hard working citizens to support their habits. It is an epidemic that has no end in sight. Hollywood makes TV shows that make it look cool to proliferate it. It is what it is, drug abuse.
  8. Should be. The law does not seem to have much effect on them.
  9. It has been a long time since I had seen him online here. He used to be a regular. Great guy. I met him down there one time for lunch, we shared an interest in the old Crosman air rifles among other things.
  10. Any kin to Bill Willmert?
  11. MO does have some areas that you can't Open Carry, but they are populated areas called cities. Ark has some funny rules about loaded weapons near boat accesses.
  12. Thanks for posting on here, I don't do the Facebook thing... Looking good.
  13. It wasnt me, i have never been in his neck of the woods.
  14. Yep, that is why I am packing all of the time....
  15. Duckydoty, Phil??? I have noticed a lack of Alaska adventures this year. I know you guys are up there, post some reports... I am getting the itch, I need to make another trip back there next year. Starting to plan tomorrow. This time I am thinking about a trip with a group of friends, a camper, and an excellent road trip.
  16. You forgot the fireworks fee for the 4th of July, Car Stickers, ATV Stickers, etc. And fortunately, the Covenants are pretty strick. They have their own Police and Fire Depts. The water patrol is the Police sitting on the dams telling you to pull over to him. All things considered, they keep alot of the BS out that normally runs rampant in that county out of the subdivision. I do like the fish feeders, I have run across them too. And a river runs thru it also. One of our accesses to the Big River.
  17. Great. I want to catch a few Grayling sometime. Maybe next time up.
  18. I carry for a number of reasons. I usually don't carry concealed when I am out and about in the stream or woods, I carry open. About the only time I don't carry is when I fish with one of my good buddies that is commissioned LE. I know he will toss me his backup if we get in a bad pinch. In my travels I have run across seedy characters. But the seediest are the stray dogs or wild dogs. I have had a few encounters with those, but I have never had to shoot one. There is always the chance you may come across a wild bear, wild hog, or mountain lion in MO. Bears must be a real threat possibility or MDC would not post Bear Aware warnings. Wild hogs are really a pain as they can get nasty if you run across a bunch of them, and they like stream beds. One of the main reasons is that it is a good signalling device. What if you slip and fall and need some assistance? It makes a pretty good noise. What if you encounter someone target practicing and can't hear you yell at them? A few shots in the air gets you noticed and can prevent an accidental shooting. Many streams pass thru private property and you never know what is out in the fields you are passing thru. I have had a few encounters with target shooters that did not suspect that anyone would be wading the creek that I was fishing thru. My main fishing weapon is usually whatever I have with me at the time. When I wade or do a walk about, I like my new Ruger P22. It is light and I can pack 50 rounds without much trouble. Others I carry are a snub 38, Keltec PF9 9mm, S&W 6906 9mm, S&W M&P 45C 45 acp, S&W Model 19 .357, or my Colt Officers 1991A1 45 acp. It really depends on my situation as to what I may have on my hip. When I am out during a fall hunting season, it will be a large caliber. Fishing, I tend to stick to the smaller ones. Hiking or mushroom hunting, anything goes.
  19. Geese are milling around the local ponds on this side of the state and getting nervous. No wetlands this year, swamps are dry where I have been. Major bodies of water are low. I might try to float and hunt 11pt this year. A few years back we fished it in Sept. and it was full of teal.
  20. One Ounce Jugs tipped with a minnow hooked thru the lips works well in the Tennessee River below Pickwick Lake. Other than that, deep jigs, spoons, crank baits, or just a minnow fished on the bottom. If they spawn in the lake, look for a clear gravel area in Jan. or Feb and target that.
  21. We put kayaks in the smaller lakes without any problems. You could drop a small Jon in most of them too.
  22. Which lake, there are 5 big ones and several small ones. I have a friend that lives on Capri, we fish it often. We fish Shane and Carmel from time to time. We fished a tourney last fall on Shane in a blowing wind and front coming thru, did not fair well. You have to live there to fish or be with a resident. Fees and tags on every boat and trailer. They stock many of the lakes every year.
  23. Nope, I have never eat a turnip since I was a kid. I dig em up and take them out to Dad.
  24. Congrats. I have to choke on second hand cheap cigarello smoke every day at the office. I hope the lung cancer gets him before it gets me.
