  1. And what floor was Tiger Woods on?
  2. I did a little trading today. I will find out tomorrow if it was a good deal. I picked up a nice 6906 9mm, mint condition, DA/SA, decocker, 12+1, minimal wear. I also landed a 22A, 7" fluted bull barrel, 3 mags, premium laminated grips and standard rubber ones, fiberoptic front sight. I can't wait to make them go bang, bang a few times. Gotta love Smith and Wesson Pistols.
  3. ONSR is Federal Land and concealed carry was not allowed. Signs went up all around the Current River parking lots when CCW passed stating that no loaded guns allowed on the stream or parking lots. Hunting has been allowed, but only so many yards away from the river, campgrounds, and parking lots. If you were pressed, openly carrying a handgun in the ONSR while fishing could have drawn you a ticket. Loaded firearms of any type were prohibited in wetlands managed by Federal Fish and Game in places like Mingo Wildlife Refuge. You could not even have one in the vehicle. Guns had to be cased and unloaded. I don't think you will see Rambo out there, most will be carrying CONCEALED, which means out of sight. You will never know it. I suppose that most of you have not run across a Meth Lab, Drugged up or Drunken people that want to cause you harm, Feral Dogs, Bears, Mountain Lions, escaped convicts, your truck getting broke into, or someone harrassing your wife at the access when you return to your truck. In my travels, I have come across most of the above except for a Mountain Lion. A handgun has foiled a robbery, changed a few individuals minds about harrassing my wife, killed 2 dogs and who knows what else. My handgun has alway been openly carried, its hard to say how many times it changed the outcome of the persons I have met in parking lots, in the woods, or on the river. I have found meth labs, seen some stashing drugs while Conservation agents were checking for violations, and met alot of drunken, obnoxious people. But for the most part, I carry to have a signaling device if I get hurt while fishing alone. A 22 pistol is great, you can carry 100 rounds of ammo and have something that gets peoples attention if you need to be found. Keep plugging away over there in Illinois, you may get a carry permit soon. The CCW guys are making good progress in your state too.
  4. But the weather was nice today and you were not at work. Looks like the best day for a while too.
  5. It was the law that was, then opposed, and now back into law. As of Feb. 22, 2010, you can have loaded firearms in National Forest Lands. Of course there are limitations, buildings, meeting areas, any place where Federal Workers gather, etc. Who would have thunk that this would have passed in the new Regime? Of course, it was attached to the Credit Card Company Reform Bill. Here is a link. National Park Traveller
  6. Nice job. How does the cat like the hooks? Me OWWW.
  7. I tend to hit the parks on the weekdays or a Sunday during regular season. Weekends suck. If I am up there on a weekend, I start out down in the river and stay away from the crowd.
  8. That station had a few problems, the wheelchair rail did not fit the base poured in the concrete. When I last saw it, the rail was missing. That was a .5 million dollar expense to allow the local game warden to sit in his truck and catch over limit fisherman instead of going out and watching the stream. It may pay for itself.
  9. Hence the first part of the statement, "That could have been" and the use of the words "had succeeded".
  10. Pontoons are great on the Norfork, as well as kayaks. Some of the best trips on the Norfork have been in Pontoons. I floated with AFG on a stocking run the first time thru the whole stretch and learned alot about the river. We stocked little browns out of the Pontoon. Another time, at the Conclave, Tom Hargrove gave me a shuttle for my personal ODC 8' pontoon. I caught alot of fish that time, a grand slam with some nice big ones. Pontoons are usually designed for higher class rapids than anything can generate around there, even at 2 units. Drift boats would be great with a 1/2 unit or more. No units would be a push/pull/drag. There is too much drop and too many shoals for anything more.
  11. It was abandoned, so I believe it is fair game. Probably a loaner or a rental, I don't know of many people that would leave a personal boat behind. Could have flushed out of a yard in a flood or dumped in the river by vandals also.
  12. That could have been Obama's quote when he came back from Christmas vacation in Hawaii and the Pantybomber had succeeded. Welcome back.
  13. There is not much more than a parking lot on the North side. Besides, it would be a long haul down a rough road to get there. Why not camp at Greer and drive around? Or go down to Whitten and camp there, plenty of room to put a camper. Still a long drive down a rough road either way you go.
  14. I use the Triton 400 with the outdoor pack. It includes the Topo Explorer Deluxe. You can download topos or aerials to the unit. I also use another software with it, Mapsend Topo for topo maps with roads and points of interest. Its small and uses AA batteries. You don't have to worry about a charger, just carry spare batteries that work with flashlights, radios, cameras, etc. The rechargable only units limit you as to how long you can use them away from electric.
  15. True, the vocals were not as good as they were 40 years ago, at least they moved around and sang their own songs instead of lip syncing. I thought they did good, they even remembered the words...... It was better than the last several half time performances.

WOW! Those guys did a great job. They have been around since the 60's and they can still put on a show.

  18. In the past few years, I have had the pleasure to meet several on here in person either on the stream, in business, or at a meeting. I got to spend a little time with Tito from the Eleven Point River today and wished that I was not so dang busy I could have talked a little more. Thanks Tito. Look forward to crossing paths with you on the river this year. Being from the other side of the state from Taney and only fishing the river once, I never thought I would meet as many on here as I have. Just points out that with modern technology, it is really a small world.
  19. Al, we are capable of creating the mess as humans and luckily we are capable of undoing the problems too. In my short lifetime of over 4 decades, I have seen improvements and declines in our natural world. I do have a kid, and a step grandkid now, so it is up to me and you and everyone else to protect it. I hope to see it improve because of us.
  20. In the case of most of the streams in Missouri, Current River, Meramec River, Niagua River, Eleven Point River, White River, Norfork River, etc, all supported and still support Smallmouth Bass in the areas of Trout Management. You can catch Smallmouth Bass and Largemouth Bass in the Trout Management portions of these streams. Rainbow trout eat minnows, crayfish, hellgramites, and other insects just like a Smallmouth Bass. Rainbow Trout were introduced into these areas because water quality and temperature allowed them to survive and prosper. Don't get me wrong, I like to fish for trout very much. I also like to fish for the Smallmouth Bass too. Both are fished for with similar tackle and lures or flies.
  21. Jann's NetCraft has moulds and materials to make your own. There is another site that carries about any mould you would need, I just can't think of it or find it in my favs. I have not done but just a few. I bought the stuff and found a mould for a jig body I was having a hard time finding and made a few. Then I found a source and have not made any since. I did not get too involved in it, one injection mould, some liquid plastic, a few colors, and some anise oil. Injection moulds are best but the one site I found had 100's of pouring moulds too.
  22. All of the trout in Missouri and Arkansas are non native and have been transplanted here. Rainbows, Cutts, Brookies, and Browns were all brought in to compete with the native smallmouth bass.
  23. We were there also on Sunday, spring was pumping muddy water. We took some pics at the Spring and looked around for a while. I did not even unsheath a rod. Of course it was the big 10 yr anniversary weekend so I behaved.
  24. For the most part, there is a serious lack of Dry Fly Fisherman in our Drainage. The Mississippi Basin for the most part. Nymphs, jigs, and eggs.
  25. What about man, the reason most of the species are invasive? If we had left them where they were, they would not be here now. Gray Squirrels?? I have not heard that one.
