It’s food day here at the old salt mine. I've got a friend who works here who is a phenomenal baker. She's just got that touch and every thing she does is top notch. I won't buy baklava, and won't eat baklava if it's served. It's always too sickeningly sweet, except....... hers is outstanding. Don't know what her trick is, and even if I sat down and made it with her I doubt I could duplicate it.

2019 was a great year in many important ways, but kinda crappy in some ways too. On the crappy side: My left knee has been steadily going downhill for a long time. It went south badly in August; don't know what happened but it just got much worse. I'm at the point where I'm not doing a dang thing. Fished a little in CO in September but it hurt. Got out in my canoe on still water with ness 2.3 in October and it just hurt and was difficult to get in and out of with mostly one leg. I haven't been bird hunting this fall, for the first time in decades. May do an easy hunt at a nearby preserve though. Heading in to see the doc again in a few weeks and going to push for getting a new knee this winter. Want to get that done and get rehabbed and up to speed before summer. So, this thread isn't about ness' tough luck, it's about 2020 fishing... We've tentatively got a trip to Ireland coming in the summer...if all goes well. And, if that happens I'm gonna get me a gillie and fish for Irish trout or maybe even pike. The last three years we've been up to IA to see the mother-in-law, but it's always been in March during spring break. Each time we've managed a little fishing in the Driftless Area, but I want to get up there when it's warmer and devote a few days to fishing it right. Love it up there! It's been a few years since we did it, but @ColdWaterFshr and @Gavinand I need to get out and hit the small MO creeks for wild trout again. Those trips were a lot of fun.

Just had this discussion with a couple folks I work with last week. Both had cataract surgery with lens replacement and both still need readers. But they were both extremely happy with the improvement in vision. Not just ability to see but improved color vision. For what that's worth. On the polarized glasses there seems to be two schools of thought: (1) buy cheap ones, don't worry, replace often, or (b) buy nice ones, take good care of them and keep them a long time. I'm in camp (b). Had a pair of Smith's that were copper, photochromic, prescription and bifocal for many years. Loved those glasses and had them for probably 15 years before I finally lost them. Smith replaced the frames for me once when my dog chewed them up. I swapped out the lenses for a new prescription once too. Would have gotten another pair but I was gifted a pair of Ray Bans. Got prescription lenses in them. They're fine but the lens material is softer and scratches more easily, and the frames aren't as sturdy.

Creamed spinach sounds interesting to me -- never had it. Can you share the recipe you used? I see some copycats out there, but if you've got a good one that would help.

I don't know if it was intentional, but your bass club's name rhymes with a##hole. Lotsa folks may avoid it because they don't like to be associated with a##holes or be known as an a##hole. Of course, a##holes don't mind, and being in St. Louis that may be no big deal. Just trying to be helpful

Last time we did a fly swap here I searched the world over for the stuff I needed and couldn't find any one place that could fill the whole order. I drove up to Cabela's in KCK, knowing it would probably be futile and it was. Drove down to K&K Flyfishers in Overland Park and they had everything I needed. They've got a really deep inventory of fly-tying stuff. I had gotten to where I just didn't like the vibe in that shop, so hadn't been there for years, but their customer service was really good on that visit. Nice to have local option and even help a small business (especially if they're nice to me ).
