  1. I have, on occasion, cast with my off hand when in close quarters or trying to get a better angle on something. I never felt like it was overly difficult, but those would be relatively short casts. Also, I've taken a lot of the shoulder movement out of my casting. If it's a really long cast I'll have to use more shoulder. Maybe try it with your dominant arm, but do most of the work at the elbow.
  2. Update -- back down to 50x earnings...
  3. Permission is hard to get anywhere -- it's not a Kansas thing. Public land is hunted hard, especially if there are a lot of people close by. Also not unique to Kansas. I fish in MO about the same amount as I fish in KS. Hunt both too, but more in KS. I work in MO and buy stuff there too, soand pay taxes there. Kansas has a 'Walk-In Hunting Area' program, in place since the mid-90's, in which farmers get a little cash and make their properties available to hunters. There are something like 2,000 of them across the state, and who knows how many acres; more than a million.
  4. Man, I don't know that that is so unusual. I'm thinking this falls within the way things normally work. Making it out to be something it isn't undermines the argument, IMO.
  5. Yeah, I thought the Orvis shop was in Leawood, but whatever I saw said Olathe. Never been to that store, but had been to the old one inTown Center years back. Scheels looks like a pretty cool store. It's good to have options!
  6. Hey Nahan--welcome to the forum. I'm sure you know I was just having a little fun. I'm not familiar with Scheels, gonna have to check them out.
  7. I can't believe he didn't tout the Helios mid-flex 6 weight, the CFO reel and the Von Trapp fishing spectacles. The boy has a lot to learn about retail.
  8. So I Google this guy, and it turns out he's the fishing manager at the Orvis shop in Olathe. So, why's he telling the reporter he caught it on a Winston rod? I mean, Perk's gonna blow a gasket!
  9. Those are some good looking flies, Flysmallie. Your glamour shot photos make them even hotter. What's going on under the rubber legs? Looks like a body built up to splay out the rubber, with some hen hackle tied in too.
  10. What is Muntzinger's position within the legislature that enables him to decide what goes to a vote? Seems like that would be the president of the senate or the house. Then it needs to come to a vote, pass, then get to a vote and pass on the other house. Then it's got to get signed into law by the governor. Not trying to minimize the potential impact of the bills, but trying to gauge the probability of it happening.
  11. Yes, it's pretty straightforward install on the towers, which hook onto the roof with a piece that goes into the slot between the roof and top of the door. You just need to follow their instructions and measurements for placement, because they're held into position by tension created with the cross bars. Hard to explain, but pics on the website should help. I can shake my whole car with the racks and they don't budge a bit. I went from an SUV with factory racks to a car with no racks, so I had to get new towers. Depending on what you switch to you might have to do that too. The cross bars should work on both.
  12. I've got the Yakima Towers/cross-bars for my canoe on a Toyota with no factory rails. They are extremely solid if you take care and install them correctly. Which you should do. Pricey? Yes. The best? Probably. Will you have to buy new ones for your next car? Possibly.
  13. Ha! The great thing about this here internet is I can register a new name, get a new avatar and start fresh. It's like the witness protection program. You guys can have your forum back.
  14. No -- reading comprehension is very important, as is sarcasm comprehension. Yeah, and 'we' all came over to hang with you cool guys.
  15. Give Roaring River Resort a call. (800) 693-2792. Good folks, nice clean rooms -- though they're somewhat dated in the motel part. Mention you've got a boat and would be happy to park it out of the way. When you're done for the day, pop on down to Roaring River and take a crack at some silver slicks. I never go down there without stopping into Tim's Fly Shop (right next to the resort). One of the best fly shops you'll find -- he's got everything, and there's always good conversation too.
  16. Long-time members would know that I'd be the FIRST one to call Chief an a-hole. But this has turned into a dog pile, even though his point WAS legitimate. This Table Rock forum sure has its own special feel
  17. We've stayed there many times, the latest back in October in one of the big cabins, for a family get-together. The owners are always extremely nice to us (yes, we are trout guys). The only thing I can think of is that they've got a loop driveway without a lot of room to maneuver a big-honkin' sparkly bass yacht (or several) around in. (Sorry, sometimes I can't help myself ). There's probably more to the story than 'we don't like bass guys'. Sometimes trouble just seems to follow certain folks around. Also, that reminds me we need to make our reservation for next October's get-together.
  18. This guy is destined for higher office!
  19. That was the main thing I took away from the article. He tosses a lot of stuff out there without backing it up much.
  20. Thanks for passing along that Champ188. I'm gonna have to get some new prescription sunglasses because my eyes have gotten worse. I have had a pair of Smith (Action) Optics prescription glasses for a long time -- 10+ years. I've broken the frames twice, and they replaced them free of change both times. Not sure what they'd do on lenses -- I haven't needed that. The last time they came back they had really polished up the lenses for me. I don't think there's a coating on them to fail -- it looks internal. BTW, I always have mine on a strap around my neck, and always put them in the compartment in the car or the hard case when they're off. And I only wash them with plain dish soap and my bare fingers, then pat dry with a cloth.
  21. I think 'I wanted to start a dialogue' is code for 'turns out that was a pretty stupid idea'. Maybe this signals there isn't much of an appetite in Jeff City for taking on these kinda things when there are so many bigger problems to tackle?
  22. Yeah, we took it daily for years. The only other option the Star offers is a Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun option. We did that for a while but at least two of them would go straight into recycling. We cancelled and they immediately stopped throuwing it, but they called for months, leaving messages on the machine about re-subscribing. No special deal, just the full price. I finally picked up one time and told them we were done. They kept calling for a while longer, then I picked up and told them again and it finally stopped. Business-wise we used to be a fairly frequent newspaper advertiser. We never do it anymore. Now that I think about it, I can get to the Star through their app on an iPad. But it's pretty stripped down content. Ahyhoo -- good to see the poll results, but I wonder how much weight they have.
  23. Do you guys subscribe to the Star? I don't anymore, so I can never get further than the front page of their website. I miss Gusewelle and Frazee, and they have some good reporting now and then (like the UMKC story). They want $142 for a year of digital, and I can't justify that for info that is usually available elsewhere for free.
  24. It became evident that the bill was a joke, and he didn't want to risk his career as a lawmaker on a POS like that. More to come.
  25. This is the kind of appathetic thinking that leads to simple enjoyment of the outdoors. There's no place for that here
