  1. Obsolete? Kinda depends on your perspective, jd. I'm still a book reader, and always will be I suspect. You can spend (waste?) a lot of time surfing the web for fly patterns or techniques -- I think it's a case of too much information most of the time. I'd bet you can find 50-100 videos on tying a pheasant tail nymph. Add to that a little ADD, and your search can fork out into a billion topics that have nothing to do with tying.
  2. This one still hurts.
  3. I haven't kept up on tying books. The one I learned on was by Eric Leiser. It's about 30 years old, but a good one.
  4. Nothing wrong with Woolies! I'd suggest you get a good tying book -- one that covers the basic styles: dries, nymphs, streamers, wet flies, poppers. I assume you've got a vice, some tools, threads, hooks, etc. Then get the materials you need to tie the ones you're most likely to use. On my list would probably be Stimulator, Madame X, Elk Hair Caddis, Adams dries; Pheasant Tail, Hare's Ear, Copper John, Prince nymphs; Clouser Minnows, Wooly Buggers, Thunder Creek streamers; I don't fish wets much, but I'v always got a few soft hackles with me. Poppers are fun to 'tie' from styrofoam or cork bodies. Check the suggestions for materials you'd need, but I'd say get some buck tail, elk hair, marabou, gold wire, hare's mask, pheasant tails, at a minimum.
  5. Nice to hear. Some of my earliest trout fishing was on the Meramec, so it's nice to see some positive news from there.
  6. Sorry to hear that, man. She's a beautiful lady. I hope she's comfortable, content and has her loved ones with her. Prayers sent for her and you.
  7. Yeah! Glad that worked out. Pugs are sweet dogs.
  8. LOL
  9. Who let them heathens in here?
  10. I use IPB Buddy https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ipb-buddy/id458328962?mt=8 and like it fine. I tried Tapatalk first, and settled on IPB.
  11. I love to read, surf and play card games on the iPad -- that's about it.
  12. Nice! Get them out there and let them have fun. THIER fun. Plant the seed. I miss those days , but they'll circle back.
  13. That's the first typo-free post I can remember seeing from you Old Plug!
  14. N into the a I sure can't explain that behavior. iPad 'keyboards' take some getting used too, and the autocorrect is a pain a lot of the time. You might go into the accessibility settings and see if you can adjust something to make it work better for you. Or stick with the Mac.
  15. This sounds like operator error to me Try the 32-incher with a real keyboard
  16. I live in the state where Wichita State is, so I'm pulling for them too. K-State over Kentucky would make me happy too! KU probably wants to deliver a championship for their biggest fan, who is ailing at the moment.
  17. You are the "Bubba Gump" of spam!
  18. Man, what a piece of crap. There -- hope that helps
  19. Nice!
  20. Score one for the tackle industry there!
  21. Hah! Where does he find the time???
  22. I think a big part of this is the deep distrust some rural folks have in the federal government, and that goes back generations in some cases. Folks down there have been screwed through eminent domain or hassled by revenuers for a couple hundred years. That's why you see the militias and preppers down in those parts, and not in my subdivision. I don't fault a guy for making a buck from selling horseback rides, and I can understand why he'd be pist if that was about to get upended. But this is a bad idea, and I get the feeling the folks calling for it are doing it more out of emotion and less out of what makes the most sense. It really works pretty darn well as it is.
  23. That passes the smell test.
