    2014 Garden

Toooo much lettuce! Seems like this happens every year, even though I try to plant things so it doesn't all come on at once. This cool weather has it all in high gear. I never seem to have much luck with spinach, so I usually don't plant much, but it's doing great this year and I wish I'd planted some more. Salad anyone?
  5. Heard a guy drowned at Hillsdale Lake today. Southwest of KC a little.
  6. Suh-weet! Love the BilletHead stippled Coffee Grinders!
  7. Never heard of the peanuts in Coke thing....
  8. I just meant *I* don't grow enough to make too big a dent in our grocery bill -- most of it's for fresh eating. But, come to think of it -- I've got some beans in the freezer from last year and some Strawberry/Gooseberry freezer jam too.
  9. Yeah, there's the whole farm-to-table movement, CSA's, heirlooms, farmer's markets, and even the preppers. Some of what I grow is readily available elsewhere. But, the flavor, freshness and varieties are not. You can't buy a tomato that matches the taste of one from your back yard. The varieties available to a home gardener dwarf the measly selection at the store. If you saw the pics of my garden in the other thread, you can tell I'm not cranking out produce in quantities big enough to reduce the grocery bill by much. I mostly do it for the fun and satisfaction of it.

So -- Mitch, how's your little fly-tying-material-eating Chloe coming along? And what's new with the neighbor and the perp'?

Trying to read between the lines a little here: have you had some run-ins with the O'Fallon Police K9 Squad?
  12. 'Seth Rig' -- it's yours for the taking
  13. I kinda enjoy hearing the southern term 'might-could'. Like 'I might-could go fishin' this weekend.' But back to the fingernails on the chalkboard angle: I absolutely can't stand it when politicians refer to others as 'My distinguished colleague'. It's always such a hollow phrase for one thing. But, it's also kinda like they're saying hey, he's distinguished, and a colleague, so I must be pretty distinguished myself. The fact that it's often followed by a something like '...is as dumb as a brick' kinda waters it down too. 'My friend' in that context is similar. McCain is the worst with that one.
  14. Every time I think about a song getting stuck in my head, I think of 'Tight Pants' and it starts all over. Like right now. LOLL
  15. I do -- got the song stuck in my head now. Thanks.
  16. OK smarty pants -- there needs to be a conjunction right after the first comma. 'And' would be good choice. Semicolon would work too.
  17. I'll tell you the one that I really notice is 'like'. Some of the, like, youngsters, can't get a, like, complete sentence out without, like, three like, likes in it.
  18. Hah -- yeah, it was my mom that drilled that one into my head.
  19. OK, fine. Just try getting past the security door.
  20. RAT -- I see you down there.....
  21. Fine -- I never liked that DB anyway. So...bring it on, cowboy! (we're both kidding, right?)
  22. I typically only use LOL when I literally LOLed, and in that case I follow it with 'literally or just put on an extra L' Yes, I noticed that thread. And, noon approaches......... Last I heard we were on for lunch, but he's picking up reinforcements -- somebody by the name of KC.
  23. Yeah, they literally get it wrong every single time, irregardless.
