  1. You maybe thinking Hugo Chavez?
  2. Perhaps a walled compound would be a solution?
  3. If you're from St. Louis, you gotta have a crackleback. If you're from west of Wentzville, you don't need one. Renegade, Wayne? An oldie but goodie that I never think to have on hand.
  4. Enjoyed these posts a lot. Keep at it dirt worm. Sounds like you're thinking things through and figuring out your mistakes. In that kind of fishing avoiding mistakes is a big part of it. Stay out of the water as much as possible. Even cutting across a shallow riffle you grind the rocks underfoot and that can start a chain reaction of scared fish darting upstream scaring more. Plan your approach 2 to 3 spots ahead. A lot of time it's wise to pass on a marginal spot to improve your odds at a better one. Also remember shadows, moving branches, sun reflecting off metal, light clothing or skin, rod tips, fly line, coiled tippet, drag on the fly, plopping split shot, strike indicators or dropping your phone in the water can affect things
  5. ......and then there's Thanksgiving......
  6. How to pick just one? Tomorrow, I'll make ho'made pizza, Margeurita style with fresh mozz, basil and a simple no-cook tomato sauce. That'll likely be followed with Tiramisu. My baby girl is home from college and those are her favorites fo sho, but high on my list too.
  7. Welp, absent any other info here would be my picks: pheasant tail nymph Elk hair caddis Kruse leech Clouser minnow Dave's hopper psssst: you can have more than 5
  8. Looks like KCPD found some eyes too: http://www.kctv5.com/story/21815826/pair-of-eyes-found-on-trash-can-at-northland-gas-station
  9. That'd be great. You've got a talent for it
  10. Ouch. But if you're a dyna king guy it may be worth it. Or maybe they'll set you up with some jaws thAt work better or offer a discount to you on the small ones
  11. Thanks Ronnie, and I was only joking about making me a video. I love that look though -- gonna have to give it a try on a few popper bodies I have left over
  12. There you go! How much is a set of midge jaws -- just curious?
  13. Crap. Prolly got 8 camp chairs in the garage, including at least a couple broken ones, and never though of that. So -- I'm guessing you have the mesh snug to the body so it doesn't move? Maybe cinched front and back? Spray and let it dry? Can you make me a video?
  14. Nice. What do yo use for the pattern? I was trying to think of something to use for a pattern like that, but couldn't really come up with any ideas.
  15. Dang! I just cruised through your photo album and those boats are incredible. I don't have any ideas to help with the auctions, but I can't imagine you would have a hard time getting folks to help with the builds. I saw some Scouts in a few -- are you hooked up with them in any way?
  16. Yeah, it's a great spot and perfectly suited to a guy like me that likes to get away, search for a native trout without a bunch of folks around.
  17. I would bet that since Dyna King is sort of a premium brand, they'd have somebody in their office willing to talk to you about it. Sometimes companies will surprise you with what they can/will do for you if you just pick up the phone and ask nicely.
  18. I like Wulff. BUt you gotta pick your battles.
  19. Those are some pretty grim articles. I had missed the Frazee article. On a smaller scale -- there's a little creek that flows through some park and undeveloped land near my house. Just a little mud-bottomed creek that is easy to get to, but still out of sight enough so it didn't get fished much. I could always count on pulling a few bass out of there -- some of pretty decent size. My kids and I referred to it as the 'secret spot' and we kept it to ourselves. A residential development went in just upstream, followed by a golf course farther up a few years back. Between the two, that stream has just died. I always suspected the golf course was the bigger problem due to the massive amounts of chemicals required to keep grass green and weed-free. Never did notice an increase in algae. Now there's a ton of trash in there too. Apparently home builders are not subject to the same littering laws we are.
  20. Looks like fun. Beautiful colors on the fish.
  21. You kidding about that? I was checking the weather for down there (was coming with the Dallas posse) and it didn't look like you'd get much.
  22. Yeah, there are lots of variations on the technique. I've tied lots of Clousers, but the video addresses one of the issues I always have -- that's a big block end on the tips of the buck tail. I also learned something on the treatment of marabou in the bugger video. I've never seen the technique where you break off the fine tips. Thanks Wayne!
  23. Wow, air brush. We can wait!
  24. I did notice Griffin had several other vises, including some for quite a bit less. I started looking around for info on vises after this post came up. One relatively common complaint on the Danvise is that all or part of it is plastic, and I saw some mention of parts breaking. No personal experience -- seems others have them here and may want to add something.
  25. Anybody know anything about Griffin Odyssey Spider? Looks like a good vice for 85 bux
