    What's Cooking?

  4. I always liked watching Harold Ensley with my dad. Seems like it was the only show like it at the time. Fishing all over for all kinds of fish, and hunting birds too. Maybe it’s still the only show with that variety. Anyway, good memories of a simpler time.

    What's Cooking?

I've seen a Zaxby's somewhere around here, so I looked it up. I guess we've got one pretty close -- up by the NASCAR track. Too far away for curbside, but we'll have to give it a try when things settle down. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we did fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy the other night. Can you tell what my favorite part is??
  7. Yeah, I was wondering if they forgot to take it off after 4/1
  8. FTFY. Couldn’t help myself
  9. Siri jokes: Why don't ants get sick? Because they have anty bodies. Why don't hipsters like the Mississippi River? Because it's too mainstream. What's big and gray and doesn't matter? An irrelephant.
  10. Siri's jokes aren't great, but not bad enough to switch.
  11. I'm driving a 4-5 year old iPhone 6s with no problems. Left it on top of the car a while back and was slightly disappointed it survived the 70 MPH tumble down the highway because I wouldn't mind having a better camera. My Exchange-based work calendar and contacts seamlessly sync to it. It syncs with my iMac, iPad and backs itself up to iCloud. Everything's working well in my Apple world. I wouldn't even consider changing OS at this point.

I just had the best idea! Why not make a Monte Cristo for lunch?? 😄

    What's Cooking?

Yep! Had one near the office years back. We’d go occasionally and I’d get one. Got one at Cheddars a couple years ago and it wasn’t good. Homemade is the way to go.

    What's Cooking?

Saw a recipe on TV yesterday that caught our attention. Rigatoni with chick peas, greens (we used spinach because we had it on hand), capers, garlic, red pepper flakes, lemon zest and Parmesan. This was just ok as prepared. Needed lots more spinach, more sauce and more other stuff. We decided it needed about triple the spinach and thought some cherry tomatoes would add a lot. The sauce was just the Parmesan and pasta water. I didn’t add enough pasta water, but I’m always a little skeptical about adding it because it’s so imprecise. How much water, starch, salt in this batch? Anyhoo, the core elements are good and we’ll try again. Woke up thinking about breakfast. We had everything on hand for eggs Benedict, so...

Love a Monte Cristo. Glad you put on the jelly, because to me that’s a necessity on that sandwich.

We just got back from the store where I watched a lady picking through a bag of grapes. And I'm thinking I'll just pass on the grapes

We do it for the quality and variety of the veggies and herbs, and the enjoyment and satisfaction of growing them and giving some away. Nothing beats that first BLT of the season, and it's just flat better with a homegrown tomato. And you won't find the varieties we like at a farmer's market. Just finished the new raised beds and got them filled this week. Tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, box choy, herbs, etc. are hardened off and ready to go, but we've got a cold spell coming so I'll wait and see on the heat-loving stuff.

Man, that’s crazy. I’ve seen it before but never that marbled. I never have had it either. Kinda surprised there was that much meat left after cooking!

I rebuilt raised beds over the weekend. Dayum lumber is expensive! I have a few yards of topsoil/compost/sand mixture coming in a few days to fill them up. Tomatoes are repotted now. Tomatoes, along with peppers and first planting of lettuce and box choy have been hardening off for a few days. Started some more lettuce in cells too. It won't be long!
