  1. The one with my daughter was Roaring River Lodge, back when there was a gift shop. I asked the lady if I could borrow the hideous beast for a picture out in the parking lot, then I took it back. Son was somewhere in Wyoming -- I've forgotten where.
  2. I love me some gift shop trout!
  3. Alright, made me dredge up some old ones of the kids:

    Patfish

I don’t know Patfish, but my general impression from here is that he’s a good dude. If he’s a friend of yours I’ll take that as more proof. Gonna include him in my growing list of folks I say a prayer for. If you hear anything, please let us know.
  5. Here’s my take: don’t be a jerk. Not saying you’re a jerk, but it you think I’m being a jerk saying that, then you’re the real jerk. 😄

    What's Cooking?

Home today with a nasty cold. Why not indulge a little? Haven’t made French Toast in a long time. Take and bake baguette and some real maple syrup.
  7. ... the half-caf, 2-pump, 140 degree mocha latte ... Daughter used to work and Starbucks and she heard some doozies!
  8. I wish that reporter would have followed them. I’d bet she told him, ‘I told you it was stupid to run in the snow. Now run home and get the Range Rover and pick me up!!’

    What's Cooking?

All week I’ve been thinking about meatloaf. Don’t know why really, just haven’t had it in a long time and I happen to really like it. I floated the idea this afternoon and got a little chuckle. ‘What’s so funny?’, I asked. ‘Just seemed so out of the blue’, she said. Pretty basic recipe with the standard additions, and the good old ketchup, mustard and brown sugar glaze. Some mashed taters with lots of butter, and creamed peas. Creamed peas like grandma Vi made them — with canned LeSeuer peas, roux, liquid from the can and some cream. I was getting some pushback on the canned peas, but she’s a good sport and gave them a thumbs up. Just a good, old school, Midwest dinner that really hit the spot. Mom/grandma would be proud.

    What's Cooking?

Steak, cooked properly, like a man, in a screaming-hot cast iron skillet and finished in a 500 degree oven. With my baby boy.
  14. Nah, was only about a half hour.
  15. The only thing I can think of is it’s got the lane departure sensor—so if I go over the line it beeps and nudges the steering wheel to get me back in my lane. That, plus maybe the time of day. This was at about 9:30 at night.
  16. Boy, you sure strung a lot of stuff together for that post! 😄
  17. Driving home the other night and this shows up on the dash. This one’s new to me. I guess I was driving like I was tired?

Maybe so ... more likely than cream cheese now that I think about it. Wasn’t sweet or sour.

    What's Cooking?

We ate a pretty fancy dinner out last weekend and gf had lobster risotto as a side. Remember me saying we always share? Well I tasted that and... oh, man! .....Then a little devil appeared on my shoulder and said, ‘Maybe she won’t like it if you say you think it sucks.’ I swatted him away, told her I agreed it was delicious, and hoped for the best. She couldn’t finish...her salmon. But the risotto was gone. Dang it. Wish I could figure out what was going on in there. Extra creamy, like it had some mild cheese in there, but it wasn’t cheesy. Maybe cream cheese. Anyhoo, it was really tasty and has me thinking.
  20. Boy, the mention of a .410 brings back good memories. The first gun my dad shot was a Montgomery Ward .410. My first shots were with a .410 too —the same gun — and then my kids first shots were with it too. It’s locked up in the gun safe and hasn’t been shot for several years. Wish I had something planned for it , but I don’t.

    What's Cooking?

I can see the benefit of precise, controlled cooking. But all the precision could also get ruined with a bum sear. I do like the idea of longer, slow cook in which the seasonings can really soak in without burning. It’s just another way to cook. If I had more time to devote to cooking I’d be more likely to give a shot. The cost isn’t too bad.
  22. It’s a good thing he’s doing there.

Phew, that clears things up a bit. Gavin needs to work on his transitions. 😄
  24. Mmmmm, ok. That gravel mine is sounding better this morning. Again, why would we be against it? (in 500 words or less)

No clue what you’re talking about. You in a ‘boiled meat’ frame of mind tonight?
