Have you got a recipe you can share?

Gonna have to figure a sourdough recipe out I guess.

...and I'm gonna do pancakes someday

I haven't made sourdough or any bread in a looong time. I've still got this culture, but it hasn't been fed in months. I've neglected it for months before, but this is the longest ever. I'm reasonably certain I can revive this and make some bread. When these cultures sit, they kinda separate out. The flour gets gummy and sinks, the liquid, called 'hooch', which is partly alcohol, floats on top and takes on a dark color. I've seen two schools of thought on hooch: pour it off or stir it back in. Last couple times I've revived my culture, I stirred it back in. So, that's what I'm gonna do today. Before: Hooch, whole wheat flour and bottled water stirred in: I guess we'll see how this goes, but I'm pretty optimistic.

Very high percentage of folks west of Topeka are K-State fans. Metro KC to Topeka is weighed pretty heavily toward KU, at least until this week

Never really been a basketball fan -- it was always football. I don't ever think I've watched more than a couple minutes of an NBA game. Occasionally some college basketball gets watched, but not much. Dad and all my uncles/cousins went to KU. We went to some football games when I was a kid, probably mid/late 60's and after Gale Sayers was gone. I didn't ever become a KU fan, because you've got to have a respectable football program for me to be a fan. Several friends went to K-State, and when my daughter decided to go I was pretty happy with her choice. Good school, plus in-state A great football history and I always loved Snyder's focus on the full person and life after football, not just the 4 years. I always remember the first time my daughter came home and excitedly said, 'Dad...the guys hold the doors for the girls there!' It's a great school with a great atmosphere. It's different than KU, where my misguided second child went. Anyhoo -- our hearts were pounding here last night too. Not like they were during the Super Bowl, but pretty close. That spark-plug Nowell is sure fun to watch. The back stories on Tomlin and Coach Tang are good ones worth looking up.

I have fond memories of watching Harold Ensley The Sportsman's Friend with my dad and brother. He did a little of everything. All outdoor scenes shot on film without sound, and narrated in studio on live TV. And that song...quite possible my next ear worm Saw him at the KC sports show one year. He had his red ford station wagon there with him, which I thought was pretty cool. Here's a pic I scraped off the wide wide world of web

What a story! Little did I know when I woke up this morning I'd be learning about pigeons. Pigeons saving lives, krauts shooting down pigeons, pigeons that can't fly, and pigeons that can fly for a minute then stall out and tumble. It brings to mind this favorite (not) from childhood:

Oh my! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pigeon_breeds

Well, I learned something today. I had heard of keeping pigeons, but know nothing about it or why folks do it. Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely terrible! @Flysmallie is grumbling about the Beatles. He ain't heard nothing yet! I won't link -- that'd be inhumane.

I was stricken by two Stage 4 ear worms in the 70's that I still vividly remember. 'Midnight at the Oasis' and 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight'. I hope typing this doesn't trigger something because they were baaaad. C'mon Spooky!

A while back I thought about starting an ear worm thread, but I figured that would only make things worse. I get them bad. When Christie McVie died a couple months back, I watched some of her stuff on YouTube. I had 'Everywhere' stuck in my head for weeks. Then it was 'Songbird'. I still relapse occasionally, but today it's being drowned out by the guitar solo in 'Spooky'. Hope this helps

Thought this was interesting. U2 photo of balloon, and an amateur analysis of where it was in the photos. https://www.npr.org/2023/02/23/1159007203/selfie-china-balloon-photo

I wouldn't have thought to make a muffuletta at home if it wasn't for this thread and @rps We've got a Mardi Gras party to go to this weekend and I'm going to find some good bread, make the olive salad and take some over. Last time I made it (which I probably shared here, but couldn't find it):

Getting my hearing aids next Monday. It's overdue -- just ask anybody who knows me. I took them for a test drive at Costco last week. During that I told my wife I wish she wouldn't talk so loud. Pushing the shopping cart around I couldn't believe how loud it was when it went over a seam in the concrete. It's funny what you notice. When I took them out it was like I had put my fingers into my ears. Such a dramatic difference. I'm really ready to get them. But -- that soft talker at work is still gonna have to speak up. I'm not setting those on 11 just for that punk!

Just put in page 600 and this ^ came up.

I've gone back through this thread periodically. It's kinda fun. But at over 1,300 pages it's a lot to cover. Sometimes I'll do the 'Go to page' thing and jump into the middle somewhere. Lots of good stuff in here.
