  1. Stroll around in bare feet?
  2. ness' tip #1 You'll never catch fish unless you go fishing. Hope this helps
  3. In that last photo, is that a reflection I see or something worse? Talking about the side of the boat facing up.
  4. My summer stuff that's left isn't doing a whole lot. Maters are putting on some fruit, but they're probably never gonna ripen. My Anaheims and anchos have been a bust, but the bananas have had a great year.
  5. I've done a fall garden off-and-on, but the last few years I've really been concentrating on it. After a summer like this, it's nice to see green things going again. I've got some flats of lettuce and cabbage I started several weeks back going in the ground. Carrots, bush beans, beets coming along. A bunch of radishes started, and I'll do another succession planting or two. Garlic is in. I plan to keep lettuce, cabbage and radishes going under hoops in one bed after it's cold. Anybody out there do any fall gardening, and if you do, what?
  6. Wild versus pellet-fed stockers. Me -- I don't care for eating trout. The best I've had was heavily doctored up with onion, herbs, lemon juice, etc.
  7. Sometimes it's not black and white. She had a nasty wound on the back of her head. Billy club or bathtub? I also vaguely recall there being some comments about the medical examiner questioning the sequence of events: fall-hit head-drown, or drown-hit head.

  9. Episode 2. Maybe not as good as the first, but still some funny moments. "60, 70, maybe 80 fish. They wouldn't hit anything but caddis.....Shoulda brought one."
  10. Speaking of uniforms -- what the h$%^ were them Tiggers wearing yesterday??
  11. jd, that view just doesn't square with history. Circumstantial evidence has always been in the mix, (especially in civil trials: OJ). The other notorious Peterson (Scott) was convicted on circumstantial evidence, if I recall correctly. The legal precedent is well established. What'll be interesting is whether the "Drew" statute holds up and is enacted in other states.
  12. Well, Jack -- I tie a string onto a thwart with a few Spaghetti O cans from dinner on it. If I hear the cans in the night, I poke my Walthers PPK out there and empty it in the general direction of the sound. I've never lost a boat.
  13. I'll sure be interesting to see how it plays out. In the meantime, my tummy tells me Drew's in the right place.
  14. Found this old ad. Geez:
  15. I've got an XD11 (old logo, like the one on the right in the picture) and a couple X700's down in the basement. A few good Rokkor lenses, some junk ones too, plus accessories. XD11 belonged to my dad, X700s are mine. I can't seem part with them, but I can't see myself dragging them out either. They are good cameras -- Minolta was a great company back in the day. KEH camera does a pretty brisk business in used equipment, and they're good to deal with if you don't get any takers here.

    Who's Reading What?

So, I ordered a copy of A Sand County Almanac. Just finished up the first part -- where he goes through the months & seasons at his farm. Man, what great read it's turning out to be. He notices things we would all walk past a hundred times without seeing, then analyzes and draws conclusions about various aspects of it and how things are interrelated. He's got a very descriptive and eloquent way of describing things, without it being a chore to read. I'm reading the Kindle version on a laptop, and it's pretty nice to be able to Google some of the plants, animals or locations he talks about as I go. I'll likely get a used hardback of this one -- it's worthy of a place on the library shelf. Glad you guys mentioned it.
  17. I don't know the full context, or how it ended up -- because it's all a load crap anyway, and I won't watch any of it -- but what a freakin' joke. I wish we could sweep everybody out (R, D, I) and start from scratch.

    Cabela's

I think these guys have figured out how to make money. http://www.bloomberg.com/quote/CAB:US/income-statement
  19. I know I'm only seeing a small slice, but that doesn't look as bad as I would have thought. But, what do I know. I'm sure it's plenty bad for the folks that lost their homes, livelihoods, retreats, etc.
  20. I think there's like 10,000 lakes in Minnesota.
  21. Crummy land costs less. You either pay for the 'good' ground, or by the bad stuff and pay to fix it up. Location was likely the biggest factor in the decision.
  22. I'm talking two-day total, are you?
  23. Finally went out and checked the gage. 4.5 inches and counting.
  24. Isaac's kinda parked over western MO, eastern KS and we're still getting a gentle rain. Up over 2 inches now. Didn't make the right turn they thought it would. Found a pretty cool website with hurricanes mapped out. http://ibiseye.com/.
