  1. Good enough for me.
  2. I would highly recommend this group if you're wanting to learn more about photography. I attended a couple years ago in KC, and it was very well done. I just checked my notes to get the name, but there was a Doug Johnson who did a couple classes, and I thought he was excellent. One was on composition and the other was night photography. He's got an artist's eye, and a real enthusiasm for the craft. He's not gonna tell you how to do digital or talk much about gear -- there are other classes for that -- but he will help you understand light, composition, and a bunch more of other nuances that take you from snapshot to photograph.
  3. Well, when you accept payment for something and don't deliver it, you're in a whole different place than poor customer service.
  4. That's a shame. Hope it's a legitimate deal, but the lack of communication makes me wonder. Inexcusable, really, given you've sent multiple e-mails. You may ultimately want to open a case with PayPal or your credit card company if that's how you paid PayPal. In my experience, PayPal is going to offer minimal help and what you do get will be via computer, and relatively hard to understand. Don't count on any human contact -- apparently none work there. After my issues with them, I just won't use them anymore. Credit card protections are better in my experience -- especially Discover. If the merchant doesn't make good, I'd hope you'd tip us off so we can steer clear of them. (Now I'm off to see if I can figure out who it is) Good luck.
  5. I was fishing down on the Meramec and managed to put a fly high into a tree. I pulled down on the line and got the tip of the branch within reach, grabbed onto it and started working the snag toward me with my fingers. Then it slipped out of my grip. The branch snapped up, and the hook was buried up to the bend in my index finger. So there I was -- standing there pointing my index finger skyward and what plan B would be when I noticed a spider crawling down the branch to check things out. This one was relatively large, I didn't know what it was and was heading for my fly/finger. Now, I'm not necessarily scared of spiders, but sorta do like to have the odds in my favor when one comes around. So, I pulled my finger straight down (which hurt) to get the hook within reach of my free hand, yanked out the hook (which also hurt) and let the branch snap up. Done, right? Welp -- not quite. I watched the spider ride the branch up, fly into the air then bounce off my hat and disappear. Now I'm not necessarily scared of spiders, but I do kinda like to know where they are. I ditched my hat, swept off each shoulder, checked all the likely places and still no spider. Then my mind started working on me: down the shirt collar, in the waders, puss-oozing spider bites, etc... and I let out an expletive that I'm sure could be heard from the spring to Suicide Hill. I started peeling off stuff but still no spider. Well, I stopped short of nekkid (you're welcome), but eventually got enough stuff off that I was comfortable that he had slipped away. But, for the whole rest of the day every little itch or twitch or anything would give me the heebie-geebies.
  6. Datus? Is that you?
  7. 148 views. And, I think those are 'unique' views, because if I go out and come back in, the number doesn't go up.
  8. I mean she, not he -- got a bunch of caviar too!
  9. Just got back from a whirlwind trip to Blue Springs. I caught the big one! He was 19 inches and delicious. Nothing left but a bunch of 5-inchers, best I could tell.
  10. Making some headway there, Terry! Just a leetle bit more constructive criticism -- kinda in the same vein of Bassfly: get a real e-mail address as quick as you can, and I'd agree about the free website. Both of these upgrades would be fairly inexpensive and easy to implement, and add some credibility and a sense of permanence to the company -- and validity to warranties. I'd consider them a must for any website that's selling directly over the web -- which I know you're not doing at this point. Best of luck with this! The product line looks pretty extensive, and from what I've seen it's good looking stuff too.
  11. Sounds like a fun day on a great little stream. 68 views and counting...that big one's a goner.
  12. Great report, Al -- thanks for sharing it with us. Some of my best trips are the ones like that -- no plan, no schedule, chicken fried steak.
  13. If anybody's interested in some information, NOAA's website here has a bunch of good stuff.

    Making Bacon?

Hey Gavin, I'm curious -- were you able to keep the temperature low enough for cold smoking with your offset smoker? If so, how?
  15. Welcome Slam. Eureka Springs is a great place to land, and if you like fishing there's a ton of opportunities within a short drive. Where do you hail from?
  16. Geez TC! Way to clutter up the forum with actual first-hand knowledge and supporting documentation.
  17. "Fettuccine, linguine, martini, bikini!" Man, Vince was a hoot. Too bad he got into trouble. I think 'Smiling Bob' is in the clear, but the Enzyte guys are all in jail.
  18. Bill -- thanks for that insight. I found it interesting. We haven't been to Big Cedar in a number of years, and wasn't aware they had done the condo/timeshare thing.
  19. Good luck with the new venture, Brian!
  20. Wooly buggers and Cracklebacks are both good flies to start on. Minimum of cheap ingredients, only a few steps, and include some good basic techniques like working with marabou, palmering hackle. Don't know what stonefly you're looking to tie, but they usually have lead wrapped under black dubbing with a couple goose biots for a tail and maybe some rubber legs tied in. Again, pretty good pattern for starters. As for scissors, I've used the Wiss Quick Clips for years. I buy them off of Amazon about a half-dozen at a time. If I can scare up an extra pair, I'll mail them to you.
  21. Those are sweet. Sure wish the still did it that way. I've got a bunch of old duck stamps somewhere. Makes me wanna go dig them out and see what I've got.
  22. Call this number: (417) 847-4956 and ask for Tim. (Tim's Flyshop in Cassville). He's got a good selection of stuff, he'll steer you the right direction, good prices and service, and no BS. Well, maybe a little BS, but it's the good kind. I've got a Cabela's 15 minutes from my house, and I've shopped all over the web. But, last time I bought a couple reels I went through Tim. Good deal, quick shipping, good guy. What more could you ask for?
  23. +1
