  2. All I can say is I'm jealous and I wish I was going with you... I'll be surprised if you come home without a new personal best! Take tons of pics
  3. The craw is SWEET!
  4. In my honest opinion I think it shines much more in clear water, like Table Rock and Bull Shoals, than a lake that usually has some color to it such as LOZ. I know it catches fish on LOZ but it will not win any tournaments on LOZ. That's just my opinion. I'm sure if I fished Table Rock almost exclusively I'd have more of an affinity for the thing. In terms of pure numbers, it probably is the best option day in and day out for Table Rock.
  5. Last time I fished it, I caught some green sunfish and a 3 lb drum.... I guess it was me though because the little guy never fails Went ahead and hammered em on 5" wacky rigged senkos and WTD topwaters instead. Disclaimer - I don't hate the ned rig and I will use it from time to time... It's just another tool for certain situations like others have stated. And Dave does make a real nice jighead for this technique!!
  6. Thanks for the up to date info Corey!

Awesome Andy! Looks like a great trip... I really need to do a solo overnighter this year. I'd be pumped with 5 fish between 17-18.5"
  8. I honestly hope you are not being serious... I'm going to go ahead and assume you are joking so I don't get P!$$ed off
  9. Looking great man! Thanks for sharing
  10. I used to throw them quite a bit for stream smallies but have gotten away from them for some unknown reason. They definitely catch nice fish!
  11. I'd be surprised if it's something we've never heard of or tried... But you have me intrigued
  12. Great report! There was a great topwater bite on certain sections of the lake by the sounds of the US Anglers Choice tournament. Must have just been a location or timing thing. Your fishing buddy is awesome! Love the pic of him in the water! Thanks for sharing
  13. I see your point but it's definitely not helping the fishery... There are nice fish caught out of the Meramec every year so I guess I shouldn't worry too much about it.
  14. Sorry for the late report... Got to the lake about 7:30 pm on Thursday. Unpacked and loaded the boat but had to run to the grocery store before they closed. Got on the water about 5:45 am on Friday morning. Water temps were 69 degrees (They were 67 to 73 all weekend depending on time of day) so I motored to a nearby spawning pocket that always holds a few fish this time of year. Only caught 1 dink flipping a D-Bomb. Motored to the last secondary point in a big cove and started off throwing a bone colored WTD topwater. Caught a 13" Kentucky and a 15" Largemouth on back to back casts. Proceeded to catch another 10 or so on topwater fishing rip rap around condo docks. No giants but 12-16" fish were annihilating it. Made about a 2 mile run and continued throwing the topwater but by this point the sun had come up and that bite had turned off. I threw the wobble head a bit with no success, so I went shallow hoping a few fish would still be up there. Started skipping a wacky rigged senko around shallow docks, behind cables, and any shade lines. They were there! Caught probably 20 more doing this and had about as many come off half way back to the boat. That small wacky hook wasn't holding them as well as I would have liked. Also caught one 16" keeper on my homemade buzzbait. Headed back for lunch and to take an annual picture with my son that we do the Friday before Memorial Day every year. I had 2 fish in the 3 lb range but my best 5 were only around 11 lbs. 30 fish made for an awesome morning though... That afternoon we hung out on the dock and my son had a blast reeling in his kids rod with a bobber. We took him out for a boat ride and I screwed around with the topwater and senko a little bit more. He loved every minute of it and wanted to hold every fish I caught. He even learned how to long-arm it for the camera like daddy! And I taught him the importance of kissing fish to thank them for biting... We enjoyed some steaks that evening as we waited for my brother and his family to arrive. We had a great time the entire weekend. The kids loved catching bluegill around the dock. We had some awesome food and the drinks were flowing. I only fished an hour here and an hour there the rest of the weekend. Seemed to catch 5 or 6 every time out. Several 15-16" keepers and one more nice one on Monday afternoon. Right about 4 lbs on the Senko again... This was the first time my son showed serious interest in fishing and it made me about as happy and proud as the day he was born! What an awesome weekend!! Can't wait to get down there again. 16. Upper Meramec Invitational... Happens every year... I also HATE the format. Nothing like putting a bunch of 15-20" fish in a small easily accessible area. Stupid and detrimental to the big fish population on the Meramec!!! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Upper-Meramec-Bass-Club/390407060208 I know a few guys on here fish it and are stand up guys who really do care about the river... But this just seems wrong to me! I'm not a fan of the weigh-in tournaments on any of our Ozark rivers. They are to fragile for this!
  17. Gotcha... Not sure which side of the lake you are staying on, but Papa Chubby's at the 26 MM (Crabtree Hollow) has a ramp that you can pay to launch at I believe... Or Shangri-La at the 25 MM (Kinchlow Hollow) has a ramp you can pay to launch at as well. Shangri-La's ramp is not the greatest but it's doable. These are both on the Sunrise Beach side of the lake.
  18. I just fished Tan-Tar-A's cove (26 mm) last Friday and there was a nice wide ramp at the back of their cove... Not sure if it's public or owned by Tan-Tar-A. May want to call them and see if you could use it.

  20. Yes there are fish this big in the upper Black... Put on a snorkel during the summer and you will see. And I've seen a handful of 19" to 21" fish caught first hand. Depending on the time of year, these fish can range from 3 to 4.5 lbs. We did not call on this guy as he was doing nothing illegal. My exact quote was... "We've called on each one of these that was illegal" Live Basket to me is the same as a stringer. Regardless, there's a lot of locals on that river (and most rivers for that matter) with the catch and keep mentality. And in my opinion that is extremely detrimental on the big fish population. I may not agree with keeping big smallmouth, but there's nothing illegal about it. But we've hashed that out a million times here.
  21. Smalliebigs and I have seen the exact same things with the amount of time we spend down there. We've witnessed jeeps just driving back and forth through the river... We've seen a gigging boat put in near secluded trails on a Tuesday in June... We've seen locals spearfishing... We've seen someone guiding an international fella and dragging a stringer full of smallmouth (short fish) from the back of their canoe... We seen a local walking back to his car with a 4lb smallie in a live basket.... We've called on each one of these that was illegal, yet nothing ever really seems to change. The Black has survived this for a long time. Hopefully it won't decline more than it already has. It just makes me appreciate even more the nice fish that we do catch every now and then.
  22. Nice fish Joe!
  23. This is terrible news as the Black is very near and dear to me! I was down this past weekend and did about an 8 mile float on the upper Black. It was TOUGH for us as well. Only a handful of fish with a 14" being the biggest. A wacky jighead with a 4" worm was all that I could get bit on. Topwater was nonexistent. We saw hundreds (literally) of giant carp and gar everywhere we looked. Did not see any beds which I found strange. Only saw one nice smallmouth cruising. The few others that we saw cruising were relatively small. Saw two giant fish busting baitfish in one spot, but that was it... The normal baits I catch fish on on the Black were unproductive. I'm hoping the fish are just in a funk as they get ready to spawn. They haven't appeared to have started at all yet. We still caught some nice fish last summer, so I'm hoping it's not a bigger issue. Only noticed a little bit of that brown scum you mentioned.
  24. What an A-Hole... You have every right to fish around any dock you want to... I had a guy tell me once that we could only fish in front of the docks... we couldn't fish in between the docks or behind the cables... He got a laugh from me as I kept on pitching behind his dock. People like that shouldn't own lake houses. They should have their own little cabin in the woods surrounded by purple painted trees. That sucks laker67 - The guys I was supposed to fish a crappie tournament with 2 weekends ago had to bow out at the last minute because his prop and 2 rods were stolen the night before... Right off his lift. It sucks that you have to worry about your property like that!
  25. Glad to here you guys did well... My FIL said the same thing again... Really slow in the morning but on fire in the early evening! That's been the theme for 3 weeks now.
