Actually Glen more and more folks are filling directly to the rifle. I am not sure what brand my uncle is using now but he is going direct. It is oil less and not so noisy. @Terrierman pay attention here please. It is a bit more expensive but I think they have been out long enough now to maybe prove it's worth. If I was a stay at home all the time shooter I might go this route. BUT wait there is more HA they can be used 12 volt so portable too. Not for bottle filling but I think Uncle John is when letting the compressor cool of between cycles. One example, Umarex ReadyAir Air Compressor PCP Charging System (midwayusa.com) So some back story about Uncle John. He is pushing 80 I think. Poor health from bad decisions in his life COPD and other issues. When he comes to visit I have to watch him like a hawk. Lots of near misses and hits with him hurting himself once he almost drown falling out of a boat with my cousin last Fall. Anyway he was one that got me started t he air rifle addiction. Ok He lives on the Illinois side of ST Louis. So very restrictive laws for everything regarding projectile weapons including air guns. When he buys one he has to send it to his daughter on the Missouri side and then drives over to get it. In the Liberal state he has to go through a gun shop to get it. Ok he shoots all the time in his Duplex rental house deal. Has a neighbor lady he calls to tell her he is going to run his Yong Heng compressor so she doesn't think the world is coming to an end. Gets a whole 5 or 6 yards in his house to shoot. Has several air rifles. Constantly shooting for he stays home most of the time. Always tinkering and sometimes will mess his guns up. When we comes we have to sight in all his guns to hit correctly for the two weeks he is here. Then he goes home and re sights then to his 5 or 6 yards for home shooting. This happens in Spring and Fall. Bless his heart I don't know from year to year if he will make it or not. He is failing fast. It keeps him busy. He buys about every pellet made for each caliber he shoots, .177,.22.25 and .30. Yes he shoots the.30cal beast in his duplex . He has even said he might get a .35cal. So he adjusts his guns to shoot different FPS bragging on his FPE and how hard they shoot. Now this combination is not always right as you want the most accuracy. So when he is here he finds and accurate pellet for his gun. Then back home screwing around and messing things up. Again this is all he has to do but it drives me crazy. He had his .177 up to over 1000 FPS and key holing his pellets in the target! HA Oh well cousin and I will get him in the bulls eye at 30 yards again in September if he makes it. I get a call from him once or twice a week telling me what gun is doing what. Bless his heart @Terrierman if you go Yong Heng type compressor use ear plugs please I do and the sound is subdued on the video. Much more noise real time VID_20210719_090508497.mp4 VID_20210719_090508497.mp4

Pretty much same one I use. Lots of people use these. Like I said I had to replace my piston once so far. Worked it hard when I had the non regulated rifle. Not so much now with a rifle I get plenty of shots with so many fills. I use the royal purple compressor oil.
-
Correct! Again those things work hard to do what they do. My uncle has one that he bought I think it is oil less and he is now direct filling his gun. He likes it.

Thanks Rick, Give Les a call. He bought two of my air rifles. Went the scuba tank route. I think he still shoots some off and on. Remember the scuba tank cannot be charged with what that rifle can actually take. If you go Carbon Fiber tank lots of shots per fill.
-
Something else to add. Most of these air rifles have a free floating barrel. Treat them nice and don't be standing them in a corner and expect to shoot the eye out of a squirrel at 50 yards. It isn't going to happen. This hobby is a slippery slope and very addictive.

HA! Ok here we go as far as caliber. If you are just punching paper cheapest route is .177 then .22 and then .25. Came thing goes for shots per fill. Consider accuracy with any and I mean any wind even the slightest breeze. Going to effect the .177 the most and right up the line to the .25. If you are going to shoot some game you make that choice. The heavier the better. I go of course with the .25. Dead is dead but I like them really dead. Now to hand pump and scope. You get what you pay for. Please let me refer @fishinwrench for this stuff. No nothing whatsoever about the hand pump. Scope there are far better shooters on here that can help you with this choice. I literally hate spending someone else s money or giving advice. Heck I want all happy and still worry about you all's cast iron purchases. Oh heck I can see it now. Team OAF at the next Olympics. Terrierman, Fishinwrench and the BilletHead. We need more to sign up incase one or more of us goes South!

Ok for those of you that might be interested to get into the air gun deal here is what my uncle bought. He wanted a .177 so that is what he got. can get in the .22 and .25. Air Venturi Avenger for Sale | Pyramyd Air then a review of the gun, Air Venturi Avenger repeating air rifle: Part 8 | Blog | Pyramyd Air For this price you can get into shooting pretty cheap and even get a hand pump for it. I know you can charge it to 4350 PSI and that is higher than what I put in my rifle. But at 2500 PSI you can still get a good amount of shots. test here is with the .22cal. Again cheap to get into a shooter if you hand pump. I am not a hand pumper

If you are asking me I do not recommend a break barrel. Have not talked to my uncle yet about the newest one he got but will soon.

YNP, Soda Butte creek 2019. Fishing and walking down a bottle neck trail next to creek with steep hills on each side we see this. Some of you know what this is. For those who don't it is the safety latch off a cannister of bear spray, Kind of spooky as we walk a bit farther we find this pile of bear crap, Poked it with a stick and it was mushy but no bear bells in it! A bit farther where it opened up a bit and on a sand bar next to creek this was next, It raised the hackles on my neck let me tell ya. We did not hear of any encounters but did talk to another fisherman at the camp ground. A Grizzly had been seen working the valley

Well like Wrench said PCP is the way to go and some are getting real reasonable while the top of the line are getting stupid prices. Here is the biggest problem. High compressed air. You will have to manually pump your rifle tank up and that is not fun, good exercise but no fun. @fishinwrench does his. Option two is buying a scuba tank and relying on a dive shop or paintball range fill it for you. Scuba tanks are not cheap and carbon fiber even higher but they can be charged at a higher capacity. . Option three is get a compressor and fill your own. Again these are high and wear out quick. I bought a china made one a cheap model and have had to replace the piston once. You are closer to dive shops and paintball filling stations where you live. Paintball can fill carbon fiber to 4500 psi. Scuba tanks 2000 psi. Next time I talk to my uncle I will ask about his last purchase of a gun. Said for the price he liked it real well.

Just a few minutes ago I was getting my mani-pedi. I told her thanks and glad there is only one of her. Her response you couldn't handle to of me. "I said yes dear you are right"

Here we go again. No hate here this is just funny stuff. No advice. Just how long have you been married? 44 years straight in a couple weeks. How many wives Wrench?
-
I will text you how about that.

You can't make me mad at you. I just consider the source 🤣 I like you Glen and always have. Just think sometimes you need to adjust your attitude. You are a very smart guy on things you understand. You just don't know it all, neither do I and no one on here does. We just think we do . Thing is I can admit it and learn from my mistakes.
-
My current most favorite shooter is regulated. I fill it to 250n Bar which is 3625.94344 psi. I can get approx 60 to 65 shots @ 900 FPS before dropping off the regulator. .25 cal. It is a tack driver. Magazine holds 16

You might but to imply what he did is Ho Humm is just rude.
-
Lets see how you do? Standing Come on do it. Just see how easy it is. No matter what it is shooting period. Competing with others with same target and range. No he is not hunting leaning against a tree of shooting off a bench but he is the best at what he is doing Mr. Negative Nelly Out shoot him and then say Ho Humm. I will bow and say you are the best. When you shot competitive archery did you shoot sights or did you shoot bare bow? Did you shoot long bow or recurve? did you make your own bow out of a Hedge log? Did you kill any deer with that hedge stick? Did you do it with a river cane shoot, hazelnut shoot or grey dogwood shoot out of a road ditch? Did you do it with a knapped stone point you made? Point installed with pine pitch and sinew? Turkey feathers tied on with sinew? Did seven deer that way:) . Start bowing to me and go out shoot that young man.

Thanks a bunch, Just some loving for the fish and extra support is what a guy needs. Education for the user and not condemning them. Note I have not caught mega trout like you do but have other fish where the Boga grip was very useful for fish control. Better than wrestling the fish to get the photo doing further damage or bouncing them off the boat or ground. The Boga has it's place used the proper way.

Mike, I bypassed the break barrel air rifle and went straight to the PCP type. Just because I had a good deal fall into my lap. Lots of guys start with the break barrel and are very satisfied. I understand it takes some getting used to but that shooting platform will not break the bank buying it. I will refer that stuff too the ones on here who have dealt with them including @fishinwrench.
