  1. So does your buddy know where they came from? I think it is neat there a few being caught but it would be neater to know the story of how they got there, BilletHead
  2. Life is short Phil, Delegate those projects to Duane and go fishing. Forgot you have to take him too. Jealous of you two except when things get hairy like the floods, BilletHead
  3. Yes those fruitless bradford pears supposedly not invasive are going crazy all over blooming and being invasive! My dogwoods are not even close but my flowering peach is and attracting honey bees. I an enjoying that buzzing sound. I have that fever but only finding isolated whites and no concentration. May have to don the insulated bibs and try to cool the fever making a run looking for more, BilletHead
  4. I am thinking if the river settles a bit and wind cooperates I may take a jet boat ride up one of those three arms. Please don't throw any rocks at me as I go by and I promise to not make waves for the smaller craft as I do so. Better for us both if I go by on plane. BilletHead
  5. Nice fish is right. I figure Wrench caught that fish and released it one through eight pounds. If he caught it at nine pounds I am sure we would of heard about it . Again congrads to the angler wow caught the behemoth, BilletHead
  6. I don't like the heart problems but I double like your recovery part! BilletHead

    What's Cooking?

Sounds good MoPanfisher. Nothing in my asparagus patch yet but I have about four inches of oak leaves on my plants. The leaves kind of wind row there and I never have to worry about salting my plants to keep grass down, mulch be good! BilletHead
  9. Ok some photos to share and then a quick discussion, Starting with the lettuce. We actually should have some double this size, really:) I actually gassed the first batch. What you ask? Yep I did. I had worked up the soil and spread some triple 13 fertilizer then covered up the bed to warm from the sun and it did quickly as I had a thermometer stuck in the soil. Ok looking good and we opened up the bed tops to be struck in the face with an ammonia smell. Let it air out and planted the nice starts. Shut the top and let them go. Even though we had a few cool nights the soil stayed warm and they did not freeze. They turned whitish and just died! So opened it back up and the smell had came back. Sooooo I got the little toy tiller out and worked the soil and the fertilizer in and smell be gone. Replanted second bunch of starts and good to go. Now to the other starts. I will blame that on that Ness fellow. So he goes and starts some plants. Too darned early but I just have to start mine too. You know if you read on the seed package and follow directions it tells you when to do it. Yes six to eight weeks before last frost in your zone. Well some of these tomatoes are 15 inches tall. I transplanted them from the starter trays into larger pots and planted them deep in those. Right at the bottom of the pots and filled to the top with dirt. I have to add two by fours flat every couple of days as they grow that fast to keep them out of the lights. They are grow lights in four foot shop light fixtures.Darn you Ness again! Now to the peppers started at the same time. Slower to sprout some already into larger pots. Others will be soon enough. I really don't consider these plants leggy and not worried about the height and when I finally do get them outside I will plant two thirds of the tomato plant in the ground. Post hole diggers may be needed but that the heck am I going to do with them for four more weeks? Darn you Ness again! For his punishment I put in the post today a bag of horseradish roots he will have to plant. They will be there Thursday so get them planted right away BilletHead
  10. Ok I will buy the doughnuts and want to know who you are thinking of? Let me see have we discussed his name before and was he a previous member of this fine forum? BilletHead

    What's Cooking?

Well here we go for this Evenings feast. Well I did feast on it . Some rather large crappie fillets, green beans and some mac and cheese with a punch. Punch you say? Yep. The Mrs. normally just uses sharp cheddar. When we discussed this normal choice we also discussed a mix of cheeses. I know some good mac can be made with a mix but have never tried it. So as the Mrs. started working it up she said and I quote " Some sharp cheddar, Asiago and three other little chunks of other stuff" What? Well we had some cheddar with habanaro , some pepper jack and buffalo cheddar! Well this will be a flop or a success I thought as she topped it off with seasoned bread crumbs and popped it into the oven. Success it was and I may never look at mac and cheese the same again, BilletHead
  12. Thanks MoPanfisher, Like you I am sure it was pure musky. Like many mysterious things in life I would like to know the truth. As in the "X" files the truth is out there but we may not know it. It can also be said anticipation is better than realization . Rumor mills can go rampant. Let me share a story. A while back there was a guy who posted that there had been a rather large walleye caught at Caplinger Mills. I thought huh, neato. So I was over there a week ago yesterday fishing a shoal next to another guy, he was from KC. He asked if I had heard of the big walleye? Yes I had. Well he than said he was on a trip to Hawaii and got a text about it. It was 18 lbs. So and so was involved, the game warden got the fish and told the catcher they would give him a replica of the fish. This warden had officially measured, weighed and certified the fish. I my mind was wow what a catch and how neat. So now to Sunday morning and the Mrs. and I were again on a shoal in waders trying our luck. No catch for me but Pat caught a spotted bass. Then it rained and since we got soaked the day before we were not going to do that again. We drove back to Caplinger to see the low water and study the newly formed river changes. Well right there on the bridge doing the same was the Cedar county game warden. We had a really nice visit and here is what he said. I was the one who supposedly verified the fish, wasn't me or any of us. I was supposed to confiscate the fish, wasn't me. We were supposed to have a replica made for the guy, nope not us. He than said heck last he heard it was up to 22lbs. 8oz. and that would beat the Missouri record by 2 oz. (don't know the right exact oz. so don't quote me, BilletHead on that). Agent said rumors spread fast and I have not seen this fish or had anything to do with it period. hahahahha Funny how true things like this really is. Another quickie. Several years back i caught a solid 10lb walleye on the Bates County Drainage Ditch. Had a friend with me. So after many years I run into a guy on that river. He said aren't you the one who caught a big one awhile back? Yes I caught a 10. Heck so and so (my friend) has been telling that is was 15lbs. When I heard this it had grown a pound a year . 13. Fish can do some amazing things. If it wasn't transferred by man. I think it was last year or the year before there was one caught at Caplinger Mills. Only thing I could think of it went through the dam somehow out of Pomme? Could that happen MoPanfisher? Travel down to Truman Lake and work it's way back up the Sac arm up the river to Caplinger? Now with this fish caught at Stockton maybe the Caplinger catch came from over the spillway from that lake one time or another? Tythisonemv, after seeing the rain and where you were going yesterday when I got up I at five AM almost gave you a pm and seen if you wanted to go with me. I could of used some help on those fly rod crappie yesterday morning. Same river but a bit farther of a trip :). BilletHead
  14. Made a run up the river this morning. Foggy run at that. Went up quite a ways. Second cast with a clouser produced a spot. Changed locations and found crappie, lots of crappie. Caught a bunch, kept my fifteen. Then looked for white bass and caught some of them too on chartreuse over white clousers. No concentrations they were scattered here and there. Boats trolling were catching some too. Did I say some of the crappie were nice ? Four were over thirteen inches long. Weather after the fog lifted was unreal. Almost no wind. Anchored on the crappie, drifted for the whites, BilletHead
  15. Nice report fellows and it is neat to see OA members fishing together, BilletHead

    What's Cooking?

My kind of diet buddy! We are still eating pretty good here in BilletHeadville. Not trying too much new but revisiting some of our best dishes. Keeping the wok hot and enjoying the good weather by cooking on the back porch. Been using goose in the Sichuan fragrant duck recipe. Adding a few more hot peppers and ginger too adding a bit more heat to the dish. Nice to have my sous chief Pat helping with the prep work and handing ingredients to me as I cook . Loving the rice cooker too. BilletHead

  24. Only thing missing Marcus is the roar of the crowd! Looking forward to the fishing show. Will it be a comedy? I have an older go pro. I have a video of me catching a couple of hybrids with the fly rod. The commentary is me talking to myself while fishing. It is a comedy for sure, BilletHead
  25. I would let the bunnies get a few more weeks and then eat them. Got to have meat with your veggies. You will you and your garden a favor. BilletHead
