Just a small bite for a hungry passion JD!

Nope just overnight and we start eating it. The stuff lasts forever wrapped up too. We just finished up what i did in late July before our trip out west. Actually I do the taste test when smoking. Break off a chunk of warm smoky goodness. Like warm grilled cheese with smoke and yes the stuff makes a awesome grilled cheese sammich. BilletHead

I have been told I am special but I don't think it was in a good way . Yep on the cheese. Don't let it go over 90 or so. It will melt down, I know for a fact. Makes a mess too. If you can't regulate heat very well pipe smoke into a cardboard box. Hour or so then check. If it smokes too long it gets bitter. i generally go ninety minutes or a bit longer in my smoker. I then wrap the sticks in plastic wrap. This also in my opinion lets the smoke coating seep into the cheese. We do the five pound blocks from Sam's Club. Cut block in half, half the halves and cut the quarters in four pieces (sticks). Colby-jack and mozzarella is good too! Just bought two blocks last Tuesday. Time to do them. BilletHead

It was Hot chili Edam cheese in the eggs. I think that makes it ok , Also it was breakfast for dinner.

Looks tasty Ness and remember there are no rules at your house now too Thing is it isn't any fun if there are no rules to break. Nothing to get away with now. I guess you should set a good example for yourself though. The billetHead's always overcook, Vacuum seal the leftovers for a time when we are strapped for cooking time. BilletHead

After yesterday just had to try again. Not near as much shooting as opening day that we could hear in the distance. Not as many bids flying either but fun again to be out in the crisp cool air at daylight. We quit with nine. Four woodies and five green wings. No excuses for the other three birds. We just missed! We tried something we have not tried before. Poached wild turkey, poached as in how it was cooked and not how it was shot . The Mrs. invited out the doctor she works with to eat with us. Did not take any pictures but here is where I got the recipe. http://honest-food.net/2012/11/19/wild-turkey-breast-recipe-poached/ I have never had wild turkey turn out this tender. Never made gravy this way either. This may be the way our thanksgiving dinner will be now cooked, BilletHead

Now how to put that out of my mind? Thanks a lot Mitch. You and Andrew Zimmern (Bizarre Foods) Still watch that show and there are some things I would try but lung, don't think so. We do enjoy browsing at the interesting stuff at the Asian market when shopping for more palatable foods. You eat those 1000 year old duck eggs? Well maybe not 1000 year old but rotten and black BilletHead

Well the BilletHeads couldn't stand it. Opening day middle zone. I had still been looking for a place in the middle zone and not a duck park with the opening crowd. Have a small pond on the highway we have hunted the last two middle openers that did not net us any birds. So Google earth is our friend so I go to looking. Found a small timber pond and I knew the owner. Call and ask, well sure make yourself at home. There may be a bowhunter on there but go ahead. We do a scout trip last weekend. Right along a river. No ducks on there but what the heck we will go anyways. Now to this morning. Up and at em early. Get to the gate and it is open, bowhunter is in here. Not sure how deep the pond is we use the kayak on wheels to take in the gear, I have my waders and the Mrs just in muck boots. Throw out decoys and pond not deep can wade it all. Maybe 35 yards across by 45 yards long surrounded by timber. Oak, hickory, sycamore etc type trees. Taller old growth. We sit up in the middle and hunker under tree limbs. I was figuring maybe some woodies early and that would be all. Well before LST Shooting was happening. Most of it was coming from duck park. About five or more minutes early. Right at LST we had woodies in and out. Too dark for us to see enough to shoot. Then another batch of woodies and one hit the water dead. After that it was many , many ducks flying and the most cool thing started happening. Green winged teal started dropping in this little pond. We finished the morning out with the green wings. Groups of five to thirty dumping down. We got to laughing and ooohing and aaaahing at the flocks coming down to our little timbered pond. I know tailgate shots are kind of lame but did not have the camera with us on the pond, Came home, cleaned birds and regrouped. Went to town and visited the landowner, thanked him and gifted some gooseberry jam. He said hey go back all you want, make yourself at home. We may have too BilletHead

If it all about the kill go to the grocery store it is way cheaper. If were as easy as going to grocery store I would quit. I so miss hunting with a self bow and stone points. Just sitting there it was, hard to explain like I had gone back thousands of years hunting. I still have fun but not like then. Again it is the process of how you do things than what you may or may not brag about or bring home. My opinion only but if you haven't walked the walk you will never know . Am I off track here ? World class small mouth, world class deer, both kind of the same, BilletHead

Like wrench said and then I would have to stand on the table elevated to get the picture of them to get them all in the photo. Too dangerous. Add to that Mrs. BilletHead would be stealing stuff out of my boxes. Oooh that one is pretty. I bet that would catch a fish :)

Excellent Duane! Good story too. Gray fox are cool. Act more like a feline than canine. I remember the first time I seen one go straight up a tree, I mean straight up and out on a limb scoping me out. I thought about getting my eyes checked too. I told my story to some friends and they thought I needed to see a shrink. Nothing like shopping in the outdoor pantry, BilletHead

Attn: Deer Hunters - Is It Safe to Fish Bohigan CA
BilletHead replied to mic's topic in Wild Trout Creeks & Streams
Mic my friend, If you are worried about this please don't get into your car to drive there! Like the above post just wear a little brighter. The road trip is much more dangerous than the walk along the creek. That and the hunters I know would rather get away from the places that have traffic where you will be fishing, BilletHead -
May need a bomb to get this guy. Sat off and on over the weekend with slick heads and a couple smaller bucks out and about. Bucks were moving for others though. Have a neighbor that bought land across from us. He took his son over there and his wife took their daughter to another farm they have a hunting lease on. The boy took an eight pointer and the daughter a very big ten. He brought his son over to show off his deer and then he texted me a photo of both the kids with their deer. Biggest grins in the world for those youngsters. Glad they have a youth season for kids! BilletHead
