    What's Cooking?

Hey Chief, Tried to send you a PM. Would not go through ? Are you still going to be running up the highway in the morning? BilletHead
  2. Hit a local pond this morning for a little over an hour. Not an early start and the wind had really started to pick up. Two of the ponds are very fertile with dark bottoms. I figured they had warmed some since my last visit. I tied on one of my medium sliders. Head is 1 and a quarter long but with the tail dressing it goes three and a half. I got to working around one and got to catching bass, lots of bass. Quit counting at 25. These ranged from eight inchers to three pounds. Some would take the slider on the surface and some on the dive as I stripped but most on the pause. I could strip with very little pause and keep the slider under during the retrieve. It is lighter colored and could keep track of the slider until a bass would inhale it. I mean inhale it. I mean down in the gullet sometimes. Gills too. Don't know how to keep this from happening. All fish swam off seeming ok. I have some pretty crappy cell pictures so forgive me. Had room to carry the point and shoot but failed to pack it with me. South south East wind. News said we were getting gusts close to thirty mph and I don't doubt it. Air temp 64 to 68. Dropped the thermometer in and water was 64. It got so windy I had to quit. The pond actually started to white cap. Dark cloudy skies with thunder in the distance. I would throw into the wind and I couldn't get the fly line to turn over the slider. Cast with the wind and my back cast would die to the point I was thumping the back of my head. Good time to quit before I stick myself. Yes blood on the side of this one This is the slider I used today. I am really liking the rubber sticking out the sides. On the strip they lay back, on the pause they flare back out to the sides like flaring gills or fins. Don't know if this is what triggered the strikes but it peaked my interest.

    What's Cooking?

Chief, This we can do. Not tomorrow though got to hit the river if my head unplugs. Maybe Thursday as I need to go to the dentist for a filling. That is if I get better and the weather is not too good to fish I will be in touch, BilletHead
  5. And the Moral of the story is I won't eat them. Have had a couple of friends who ate them for years until just one time they made them really ill. Experts say that the toxin will build up until you decide to get sick. Then again we have another friend who got sick on morels once and will not eat them to this day but will still eat the red/false morels. Then again , again we have a 87 year old widower neighbor. He eats them, congestive heart failure, cancers cut off his face. shuffles now when he walks. He told me the other day when I went by to check on him to be looking for him some reds. He cannot go out to find them now. He is also beginning to smell like old man. I wish he would bathe. This is another reason I'm not going to eat any! A nice old fellow and a friend. Just need to stay up wind now, Go figure? BilletHead

    What's Cooking?

I bet a warm dutch oven dump cake would be good and better than the oven version. Not only did she make one she made two. One for doctors day tomorrow. And I just noticed something. My cake is smaller. Oh well ingredients same. The cake mix, butter, cherry pie filling, crushed pineapple and on top of all that coconut and native pecans. The topping toasted to perfection, It's a wonder I don't weigh five hundred pounds, BilletHead

Oh My Ness you have never had a bowl of brown beans? Fried taters go real good with that! And another thing. You have to have crispy bacon in the maple syrup with pancakes or waffles. BilletHead

    What's Cooking?

I am still trying to imagine the smell of your dish RPS. No matter how close I get my nose to this screen my plugged up nose and sinus won't let me smell. Oh by the way dessert of my cheap meal was some decaf coffee and some warm dump cake right out of the oven. Life is good here even with a head cold. BilletHead

    What's Cooking?

I knew we would have a closet ketchup on eggs guy! How is the smell coming from your kitchen right now RPS ? I can just imagine. Nothing better than bacon fat, well maybe some goose fat. If you were bit closer I could fix you up with some of that goodness. Think the Mrs. and doctor would approve of that?

  13. Sure Glad Duane and I are considered someone instead of anyone. Well maybe not me Yes I know Wrench it is a rental for the fleet ! I know my rig would not qualify as it would be a cram for three to fish out of. Might need a cameraman or a witness in the middle to record the fiasco though. Everyday is an adventure when you fish with the BilletHead, BilletHead
  14. Yep me like a hot spot. You want to know what the BilletHead does? Probably not but he just uses the color of thread he wants the spot to be. So Red you have a red nose and pretty red wraps on the belly where you criss cross behind the eyes, C'mon guys it's easy peasy, BilletHead
  15. Hey Ralph welcome home. Brad said you made it back, Did catch a few on the sliders just testing them a couple week ago. New boat is great. Got the break in period done. Fishes just like I want it to. I made a solo trip last Monday. Ran up to where I had been catching. Then went a little further. Looked at the next more shallow shoal. Got to thinking which is dangerous for me at times. Thought with just me this would be the lightest this boat would be. Pucker factor went up big time as I Got her on plane and ran three more miles through places I would of never thought it would of went. Marty

  17. Wrench I had been thinking of making you a slider but after that need a job remark I JUST DON'T KNOW now Scott, Does this make you happy now? BilletHead
  18. Back at the vice some, Did a waker shad minnow. I have not done much deer hair stacking but I think this will fish, Then three sliders finished. Used EP fibers for the tails. Figure they will shed water faster on the cast than the marabou. Still tweaking the tie on them. These three are medium sized, BilletHead

Good grief I may be in trouble by the time I can get these in the ground, Peppers to the right and we will repot them soon like we have the maters once. Going to start some basil from the seed we got from the plants last year. Just seen the weather it is 45 up in Nessville and 65 right now in BilletHeadville .
