Mrs. BilletHead and her cach of the day
BilletHead replied to BilletHead's topic in General Angling Discussion
She says thanks guys, you too Ness. She says she has been called a lot of things but this is a first for being ripped. And on top of all this I had to kind of twist her arm to get her to go today. We were up at four thirty yesterday and on the water jetting up the river at six am in the dark. So we were kind of slow getting around today, BilletHead -
I generally post this kind of thing in the pond or fly fishing treads but I think this should be shared with all and especially with the ones that don't frequent those forum topics. We have been hitting the river and catching a few whites, crappie, bass and rough fish on the fly rods. Today it was catch up here at home but we decided to take a break from yard work and hit a pond. Two cool mornings here had cooled things off but this sun I thought might of heated up some shallows. We worked opposite sides of this large pond. I had caught three and the Mrs. zero. I finally hit some warmer water in a corner and started catching. I gave a yell and over she came. I was catching one after another when the Mrs. started throwing. She caught two and then it happened. I think this a big one she exclaimed with glee, yes I thought sure. Well I could tell with the bend of the long rod and the way she was fighting it just maybe she was not pulling my leg as we joust back and forth all the time like spouses and fishermen/women do. When the fish finally broke water and I seen it shake it's rather large head I thought holy crap! Then the coaching came in as she let it take line and then gain slowly on her end. Well done I thought as she got it to where I could get it in my grip. We high fived and I weighed it on the boga. Five pounds on the nose. The she says you got the camera on you? Duh no. That is ok she says and I reply we have to get you a photo. She sat on the pond edge holding the boga and fish in the water as I went to the truck for the point and shoot camera. I tried to hurry and was kind of sucking wind by the time I got back from a quarter mile walk. Fish in great shape as we snapped some shots. Look at the gut on this gal, no the fish not my bride! Then as a good steward of fishing does, A bit of reviving, The swim off. I had caught twenty to the Mrs. three but each one of my twenty would of made a snack for her bass. I was throwing a dark brown wooly booger and she a tan one, BilletHead

Got tomato plants going strong in the house under lights. Some of them are five inches high and that is after we repotted them last weekend and buried the starts two thirds deep in the new pots. Pepper starts three inched high now. I am afraid it will be a jungle in here before it is warm enough outside. Did transplant lettuce starts and broccoli into the bed last weekend too. They have done well under the covers. Have more lettuce that we will fill in the bed this weekend. I put hinges on one side of the bed so it will be easier to prop the covers for ventilation during warm days. Did get new dirt mixture in six tubs too, BilletHead

What goes around comes around. She touched you and you touched him. Both of you needed that. Then there is you passing it all on to us. Again well done, BilletHead

Why do I have the feeling Ness and Flysmallie are baiting me to post on this thread? Oh by the way smarty pants #1 and #2 ONE THICK COAT So here we go. The BlletHead starts from balsa stock and carves his own. So far fly rod poppers and sliders. Have done six poppers with tandem trebbles for the spin fishing crowd and three of these have gone to members on here. I have posts on here for the full build and my trials and tribulations on this journey. Ok I use a drying wheel for the epoxy stage, I use alligator clips with heavy straight pins epoxied in them. use rubber bands on the clips for more strength, This is a new batch I just finished yesterday, I use the copic system and an el cheapo harbor freight compressor, Stencils so far netting for scale effect and hair picks for barring, I hold my work with needle nosed vice grips when spraying, Hemostats when hand painting. Base coat el cheapo acrylic paint brushed. Eyes are made with various sized wires. Stippling dots are like Ness said, Drill bits and needles, nails, etc. put in dowels for easy handling. I have been even stippling with felt pins too. Working nice! This is a good thread that got started. Neat seeing everyone's methods. I am simple and go what I think is simple. No toxic fumes or possible flame outs for me! BilletHead

The BilletHead is so happy right now
BilletHead replied to BilletHead's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
Well just had to hit another pond for a short trip. Took the kayak and slipped it in. Threw an ASP streamer and a big brown wooly booger. Caught more bass and some bluegill. The first bluegill of the season was a big one. Nine and a half inches, BilletHead -

Thanks guys, Really did not expect for them to bite like this. Surprises are nice once and a while. Needless to say I have another batch of sliders in the works. BilletHead -
I was needing this little short trip up the road from the house to a neighbors pond. Caught fish! Last week this was completely froze over. And what makes this better is I caught on my new sliders, yes you heard it right BALSA SLIDERS. I really just had intent on throwing them just to see what they were going to do. I tied on the slant headed slightly cupped shad colored one. Flipped it out there a few feet and it landed on its back, crap I thought. Gave it a twitch or two and when the tail of marabou, saddle hackle and flash got wet it rolled over on its belly like it should. Whew I was glad. Then a few false casts to gain line and out it went. So some slight twitches and it slid on top with a slight side to side motion. Then a long quicker strip and down it dove when the nose caught some water. When stopped it wobbled up pretty fast. Then a real long strip and a deeper dive and a bob back to the top. Then quick non pause strips and I would stay under but if any hesitation back to the top quick. I casted a few more times across a shallow flat in the corner of the pond. Then a caught a flash on a pause. Really I thought and went back to testing. I then tied on one with a dome head . Pretty plain Jane body style. Again with marabou, hackle and flash. Threw it out and slight strips it rode high and did a tight walk the dog motion. Again like the first I could get it to dive and dart under water. So then I tied on another. A bit more narrow, slant cupped face and back. Threw it out and gave it a dive. Being less buoyant it dove better, deeper and wobbled back to the top slower. I messed with it a few casts and hooked one! it shook and I lost it. I figured out no one is going to believe me anyway. So I continue casting and stripping slowly but this time it stayed hooked. I did this three more times catching all three and then had another two come unbuttoned. In my excitement I forgot my atv was behind me and on a back cast I heard a tink as the slider hit the basket. Upon inspection I had put a small crack and a dent in the slider. Way to go I thought and I might be able to epoxy the mistake. Tied on a meat whistle and bounced it across the bottom with no hits. Then tries an ASP streamer. Caught one and missed one. Gave it up and came home to give you all a report. Needless to say I am stoked to know these sliders are going to work, work well too I might add. Took some photos. The fish. One weighed two and a quarter lbs. Then the sliders and ASP streamer. The dome head, the Slant head slightly cupped head, the slanted more cupped narrow one I caught with and busted and the ASP streamer, BilletHead PS fish were in a foot to three foot of water. Slight color to the water (muddy color)could only see six or so inches deep. With good strips sliders went deep enough you could not see them.

It felt so good to play in the dirt today. Got the extensions built for the second big bed. Got the toy tiller started and began to turn the soil. Got both beds done and then covered the one I worked on today. Sun was out for awhile so instantly the cover fogged up. I would say it will heat up fast allowing me to get something in there pretty quick, BilletHead

Good one Ness! Boy we have lots of sprouts coming up. Not a pepper peeking through the starting mix though. Putting some extension (uppers) on my second raised bed today like I did to the winter lettuce bed so I can rotate and do the greens in the other bed. Exact size so I can use the Plexiglas frames to warm the beds. I am not sure if my beds are frozen still as I would like to start turning the soil. Sure is nice outside and I can hear a few spring peppers from a timber pond behind the house ! BilletHead

Clousers big and small I love them all

Pleasure was ours too. Have not forget an e-mail you will be getting. Got to visit with Lancer also. White bass day was neat at Plateau fly shop. The talk by the fellow from MDC about the striper plan for Bull Shoals was interesting. Bill Butt's talk was good as always. A bit nosy in the venue where the talks were held but it was tolerable. We did not stay for the iron Fly, BilletHead -
Mr. Red, This will be the third year for this patch. Yes they are thornless. Started with a dozen plants. Got almost two gallons of berries last season.
-
Well Ness got the garden thread going last year so I suppose I will get it going this season. JD had shared his valentines failure so lets hope no one has any more debacles. We have three 72 cell trays planted. Sounds like a bunch but any extra non used plants will be going to neighbors, friends and for anyone else that need plants. We have four types of tomatoes, four types of peppers, four types of lettuce and some broccoli. Here we have some of the lettuce and broccoli sprouting, Kind of been dreading doing the outside thing but the sun and warm breeze got me out there some today. Started by pruning the blackberry shoots that had produced last season. Easy to find and clip but a pain to get out of the hog panels where I had trained them. Easier by cutting them in sections. Then I did some training of the new ones that will produce this year. I then started removing the straw bales from around of the expensive winter lettuce bed. We did have fresh salad on new years but one night after that the bulb went out under the cover one night and that was the end of that patch. The bales were still frozen but I was able to break some apart to mulch under and between the blackberry canes, Under the hay bales were some of the Mrs. Flowers coming up, Low and behold in the lettuce patch was a soul survivor, This got me to looking around the yard, A crocus and some daffodils. It is time and I am so ready. So as I am working in the front there is a party going on out back of the house. Some of the yard deer and then we have now a hen turkey that has showed up. She came one morning early right out the window during the last snow. We seen her just standing there on one leg then down she went to a laying position. Then back up to both legs and one of her feet was swelled up big. We went outside and she hobbled off to the edge of the woods and she lay back down as it began to snow harder. We went to town and when We got back she was gone but you could see where she had been. I figured she would soon be predator bait if not already. Well she had been here for a few days and may be getting better. I suppose she feels safer close to the house? Don't know but she is fun to watch and is not so afraid of us. So a couple more pictures from today, BilletHead

We are still planning on going. Will be looking for some of you. I am the bald headed guy By choice! Wrench we may have to spend the night this being said a motel would be cheaper than a lawyer. Mrs. BilletHead is the long distance driver especially if we drive her unit. So staying will be up to her. Plus I will be able to hug the kid and grandchildren which is much needed after this week, BilletHead -
Thanks Phil! My friend Kent Campbell is looking good on the oars. Looks like the work he had done did the job and he is back on the job! BilletHead

Nice ties Scott, Seen them in your post on Beaver. All you have to do is let me know when I can get a fly in front of your Beaver pets and I will make the trip down. It looks as though as the weather is turning towards the better. BilletHead -
