Title Or No Title, That Is The Question?
BilletHead replied to BilletHead's topic in General Angling Discussion
Thank you Jim, this is what I was looking for. I want more input from others also. I think I will go back for a visit to the DMV? I do know I owe taxes to someone. Who? What is the cheapest? State DMV of the rate in Springfield 12 years ago? I never got taxed at the store the price was on the title App. I had not looked at. At the least I should get my late penalty fee of 30 bucks back plus title app fees? What a mess. So the new buyer should be ok with a bill of sale and get his own title and registration to make his canoe work . Confused I have talked to a friend who rents out canoes and he said he does not have titles for his fleet -
Ok here goes, I am not looking for a free pass here. I just sold my canoe. When I bought it in June of 2000 I got some paperwork. Mrs. Billethead gave them the check. I asked about what I needed to do and they said if you are just going to paddle nothing just enjoy. I filed the paperwork and that was that. One of our members here and said his DMV wanted origional title app or title (IL). I said I could do a bill of sale because I did not title or regester because I never used a motor on it. Did not hear any more from him but did list the canoe and kayak on craigs list and pronto both sold. So now more to the story. i met the canoe buyer today and made the deal, both of us happy and I provided him a bill of sale. He is going to use a motor so he goes to the MO DMV and got a no way without a title. Nice guy, said for me not to worry and see what i can do on my end. So I do. Lucky my wife knew right where the origional paper work was so off to the DMV I go. Looking at the paaper work I had not paid the taxes many years ago. My mistake, I should of looked at the bill of sale instead of filing it. Told the lady at the DMV what happened and told of the story I was not going to motorize the canoe. Se said that was fine but HUN you were supposed to title it. Ok nice lady let's just fix it but while we are doing that define what has to be titled please? Well HUN any watercraft. So another conflab ensued. Define watercraft? Well HUN anything that floats! I am sure WoodMan the boat builder here knows more that these two (got a second one involved) and wish he was here at the conflab. So I say if I do my best Huck Finn, Tom Sayer thing and strap logs together do I have to title it? They both giggle and look at me funny like. AND what about all those personal one man pontoons? Float tubes? Kayaks? I never did get a straight answer. I do know when I bought my first kayak I paid taxes right there and same when I had bought my first and last personal pontoon. It came with a trolling motor mount. Got things done and paid my fine, thank goodness it was a 30$ max penalty. But taxes sucked and total it was 97$ and some change. So my 500$ canoe sales went down by a hundred. No I say you all my Ozarks Anglers friends do you all have your watercraft titled? Oared and paddled ones? There are some here who have motorized there kayaks? Did you all regester them? What are your state laws? Are we wrong here in MO on our Kayaks and personal pontoons? Float tubes? I may be the only one missing the boat I might say? BilletHead PS the canoe buyer will have to wait 3 to 4 weeks for the canoe title to get to me. He said no problem!

Thanks fellows, Chris I like the disguise I thought of posing with my full guillie suit on but couldn't get the dog to snap the photo:) Makes sense about the beard thing. I have a friend over by Collins. He is as honest as they come. He got his biggest yesterday of a bunch of years hunting. 25lbs, 10.5" beard and get this, 1 3/8" and 1 7/8" spurs. What a stud he said! Thank you Gavin, I couldn't find my owners manual but here is the info on the specs. http://www.madrivercanoe.com/content/madrivercanoe.com/assets/page/1993/winooski.jpg It is the Missisquoi I gave close to a grand when I bought it. Always stored inside, BilletHead

I am not sure on the weight Mic. I know I used to stand it on end, put the center seat on my shoulders and portage it from truck to water no problem. BilletHead

Do not have the origional sales receipt. I am the only owner. Did not title because not going to use a motor. All I could do would be a bill of sale. Have had a trolling motor which moved it well, a 3hp gas worked well also:) BilletHead

I need to get rid of some of my less used watercraft. First is a Mad River fiberglass canoe. Always stored in a garage and in great shape. 14' ,Ash trim and gunnels. With it comes two paddles and two nice high back strap on canoe seats. It is a real stable craft. Origional gel coat color is green but I did a spray paint camo job to it. I will deliver to Springfield. Pictures of the craft. BilletHead Kayak has been taken

5wt will work, I have been using a 6wt with 8lb tippet. Wishing sometimes I had 10 lb tippet. You will find they want to run right back to the tangles and wrap you up. I have lost them many times because of brush from not being able to turn them. I vary my retrive and they will hit it stripped fast to just a slow sink/drift. These fish were shallow 2 to 4 feet deep in the middle of the day. BilletHead

Addicted to creeks, They have been hitting mostly while chasing crappie with the fly rod. They hide in logs and brush and ambush anything that goes by. Wooly buggers, epoxy minnows, damselfly nymphs, zonkers and on a pond the other day had one hit a popper. If I was just to just go out for them float the river and target logs and brush, throw about three times at a place and move on. If there is one there it will be the first thing to hit. Clear water is your friend when fishing with the fly rod. Here are some from this year so far. BilletHead

Sounds like a nice trip. Channel cat on a fly is pretty neat. And more common than you might think and a blast to catch. So far this year six. while trying out my new kayak last Wednesday I managed a 22" on a popper in a friends farm pond, BilletHead

Got into them again this morning. One spot produced 99% of the catch. Water down a bit from the last two trips and the fish were more in the main channel instead of the wood. Stripping big eyed zonkers and epoxy minnows under a thingamabobber set approx 2 foot deep. Kept 21. 10" to 13" fish... BilletHead

Yes Chris it is early here also. Strange Spring for sure. They have a new irragiation arm installed on "E" where I hunted the lake next to the road. If we have a Summer like last they will pump that little lake dry. Got a 22" channel cat from my new kayak there Wednesday on the fly rod. Quillback, You just have to look and remember where you find it each year in fencerows. Instead of walking pastures look along roads easy to drive, look right in the fencerows. Birds poop seeds on fences where they sit. Just be stealthy and don't let anyone see you picking. Just like a good morel patch you will have others picking. A good way to find patches is in the Fall when to tops turn a yellow and are easy to see. Make a mental note or better off write it down for next Spring. Billethead

Was real tasty and yes just olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt and pepper. Pee stinks though

Scored this morning hitting my wild asparagus patches. I look forward to finding this veggie as much as I do mushrooms. Best thing is you just drive the roads looking in fence lines. Mrs. BilletHead and I grilled the asparagus and did the same with bacon wrapped dove breasts. Good eats and a wild harvest to enjoy, BilletHead

Took a friend back to the area where I hit them good last Wednesday. First cast a big channel cat took the zonker and a good fight was had. We both caught a few crappie in wednesdays spots but not many. Then another channel cat, I like surprises like that. It will keep you on your toes. Went a bit farther up stream to another spot. Had to get out and pull the boat over a set of riffles. This is where we really got them. Many doubles as we just yanked them in. A bunch of brush deep and we had to suspend an epoxy minnow I tie under an thingambobber. My buddy then hooked him a channel cat. We quit as the bite slowed with 32 crappie between us. I kept my channels whice weighed 5lbs 11 oz. and 4 lbs 4oz. Here is some photos of the trip. Thanks for letting me share this with you all, BilletHead Richard and his channel, some crappie and my channels on ice

Thanks guys, one of those time when everything is just right. I was the only one there, quiet and peaceful. If we could get a small river raise off and on those fish will be there all summer long. Marty

Here is 23 of my new friends and I am inviting them to dinner! What a hoot I had today. Hit a place on the Sac River this morning armed with the kayak and fly rod. I will tell you this is skinny water well above Truman. Started looking and found them in two different places. Not in thick brush and not in big logs kind of in between sized wood. You had to hit the sweet spot and when you did they would slam and darn near swallow the fly. Slow strip or just drift the spots letting the current do most of the work. Just used two flys. A big eyed small zonker. Actually it is tied with a stinger hook. My favorite color for a crappie wooly bugger. Pink bead, white center and chartruse tail. A bit of flash in it too. All fish were 10 to 12 inch fish. I caught a bunch of shorts too. I don't know if they just quit biting or I caught them out of the spots but when they shut off no more bites. Also caught a white bass, channel cat, spotted bass and a blugill in the same spots.

Best thing I have found is something with Permethrin in it. Repel permanone is one product that has it. You do not put it on your skin but spray clothes and let it dry. I have put a live tick on my pants and watched it spin in circles and die, yes die dead. Our Wal-mart used to carry it but quit. It is bad stuff I am sure but so is tick born illness, BilletHead
