And thy am feeling guilty when the Mrs. is chastizing me as she could not make the trip. And whereas I had better let her go soon to make up for my transgressions. (Bad speller I know) In other words I will be in deep doo doo if I don't get her into some birds this weekend! BilletHead

Thy goose and thy gun comfort me in this time of no duck hunting left. Still some goose season left but the lights are getting dimmer as the season end is getting closer. A real quick hunt this morning. 17 degrees at the start and 19 when finished. My hairy upper lip and the gotee froze up too. Too add injury to insult a pair of mallard drakes landed in the middle of the goose spread and started feeding. Hunted a wheat field on top of bean stubble. Pretty quick hunt, ten in and one stayed, a single in and stayed, another eight in with another one for my daily limit. Picked up the decoys and blind and home I went. the spread The take BilletHead

Yes Duane we will do it next season for sure. Forgot to add this photo. Mrs. billetHead shot this out the back window last week. It should fire up us all up for turkey season. There were 25 and they were all mature longbeards. Doo, doo, doo, looking out my backdoor. BilletHead -

Outstanding season Chris. Post those photos friend. We like to see them. Also thanks for that field hunt. unbeleveable until a person gets to do it and then says to themselves "What the heck just happened?" The Mrs. and I made the rounds of the ponds we hunt yesterday, seen some mergansers and reflected about our season. Good thoughts but a bit sad it is over. Now time to hang up the duck decoys and soon the geese will be put to bed also. Know it is a transition to other things. Catching up with stuff that have been on the back burner. Stockton has been generating the last week cleaning out the river. Soon it will be walleye, white bass, crappie and hybrids. BilletHead -
Got pretty lucky on thiss one Chris. Had a long time friend go to bat for me.Will share that story sometime on the phone. We now have to figure out the two ponds between this place and Mike's. I will get to work on that in the near future. When the birds left this place they crossed the route of the north and south bound orange blossom special and that is where they went until returning around 8:30 and that is when we busted them. On another note while pursuing the new place picked up another but not sure how to hunt it . We need to visit about that also. BilletHead

Thanks fellows, Chris no doubt she can carry her load. I tell her to just stand by and I will take care of things, her response is I won't go unless you let me help. I cannot argue with that. We hit a new place. I think there are four ponds there. A major roost and loafing area. This late in the season i thought it wouldn't hurt to hunt it a couple of times. You know where it is. West of Mike's. Alot of rules came with getting permission including carrying everything in and out. BilletHead

Sunrise And A Few More Gadwall To End The Season

Good shooting and photos John, BilletHead -
But she said it was worth the beatdown. Quoting Bird Watcher " Its all about the thump baby" Today it was more like splash, splash, splash, followed buy three more splash, splash, splash. Had to shoot in self defense too as some tried to land on the pond bank in our faces. Where we hid between the bigfeet. A bunch of ducks were there yesterday but none today BilletHead Forgot to mention we were picking up and a hundred or more were trying to land.

We played Coyboys and how should I say it ? Native americans which most of us are since we were born here even if it was southern California! Played Army and we shot each other with toy guns and we all did not go berzerk. Outside all the time without video games. Maybe pinball if we got to go out to eat. Built forts in the empty lot next door. Had bb guns and shot plstic toy men, and still we all turned out ok. Had some firecrackers from South of the Border (big ones) and blew up things, still did not go off the deep end????????????? wonder if we were raised different back then? Caught lizards, horned toads, snakes and all other critters. Played with them, kept as pets and let them go. Burned ants with a big magnafication glass as they came out of the ant hill. I guess that is about as wharped as we got back then. BilletHead

Ok another one to try. We like asain food and I know Duckydoty does an asain theme on his waterfowl from time to time. I read Chi Wulff's site and there is always a Friday Feast recipie. Today it was our Sunday feast to try it. http://chiwulff.com/2013/01/04/chi-wulffs-friday-feast-4-january-grilled-sesame-beef-wraps/ Next time it will be made with canada goose. It mentioned using a dipping sauce and this is what we used. http://www.food.com/recipe/Korean-Dipping-Sauce-278629 We did not have the hot pepper paste but did substitute sriracha hot chili sauce for that. Sorry no pictures of the plate we just dug in. Oh My it was good and the BilletHeads give it a two thumbs up!

Ummmmmmmm, looking good and tasty I bet. If I can get my carcass out of the warm bed in the morning I am inviting ducks to breakfast at dawn, BilletHead

I will have to try chard sometime. I know what you say about Anne, like the wild hair though. I am afraid if she got ahold os someone she could snap them like a twig!

Ness here is the recipie Pat used. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/anne-burrell/sauteed-kale-recipe/index.html A bit different because we only had one type of kale and no chicken stock (used water) Plus she added some diced onions. A bit modifed from the called for stuff but very tasty. We will be eating this more often for sure. BilletHead

Yes Duane the good old TV has had an impact on our food intake. Cooking shows have been on a long time though. I remember being home from school sick and watching the galloping gourmet on daytime TV. Maybe some Julia Child. Good grief I am old. Our household cooking sometimes gets into a rut. Comfort food is the best especially some meat beat to a pulp like canada goose tenderized. Chicken fried with mashed taters and goose gravy. Side of veggies to make it healthy. I still cannot beleve I have eaten some kale and thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Bird Watcher I will have money in the new year. This thread makes me more hungry to the minute but Mrs. BilletHead has informed me we have bookoos leftovers from company to be cleaned up. Actually though there is a pot of brown beans going on too, BilletHead
